Everyone has experienced flow state - that state of mind where you’re “in the zone” and able to perform tasks optimally with little conscious effort. In flow, time seems to pass differently. Your deep-seated skills take over and run on autopilot. You might even find that you’re able to successfully perform tasks at a level that was previously out of reach.
Flow is naturally rewarding. Whether it’s playing baseball, programming, or writing a novel, we have some of our best experiences and do some of our best work while we’re in flow states. It sharpens our skill sets while releasing
So how can you best take advantage of flow? Researchers have identified 22 “flow triggers” that can catalyze flow states by either preparing yourself or your environment for them. In this interview with Big Think, researcher and writer Steven Kotler explains how to utilize flow triggers, and also how to understand the intrinsic motivators that drive flow states.

Flow is beautiful feeling especially when im learning to code, but it can be hard to attain.

Yes, but it has never been a priority - more of a byproduct than a pursuit....

This happens to me in gaming. You stretch, you're under pressure and have to think fast, but everything else in the world dissappears.

Gaming is such a great example of flow. And perhaps that's why we like it so much.
When I get into a solid flow state on work projects for one to two hours I get more things done than a full workday at surface attentiveness. Also, if you haven't gotten encapsulated by an open world video game in a genre that you enjoy, you're missing out on a truly fascinating and transcendent flow state. I'd recommend Skyrim or Red Dead Redemption 2!

Absolutely on the work front. Deep Work by Cal Newport is a great book on the power of dedicated periods of focus and flow. Video games are also a great point - perhaps the reason we like them so much is that they enable us to get into a flow state so readily. Who hasn't had the experience of getting lost in a video game and suddenly finding hours had passed?

Being in flow, in the vortex, in the zone, in your brilliance is amazing and the more you can achieve that state of being the better your life will be. Your job is to stay in flow, in the vortex, in the zone, as often as possible, for as long as possible.

What a wonderful mindset, and so beautifully said!
I vaguely remember in the 7th grade I had a moment when algebra 'clicked' for me... the rest of that year, everything flowed. Algebra was easy, the rubix cube was big and I could solve it over and over. My grades went to straight A's and I could spell any word perfectly, my history grades were perfect, I could remember ALL of the dates. I had a skateboard and I remember feeling like I could almost fly. That is the only time in my life that I felt that continuous 'flow'. I have small moments of it now, at almost 60 years old but never like I did that brief period of time. Reading a great book is about as close I can get to it nowadays. Yoga is an attempt, but never really gets there.

I feel like algebra is really good for opening up the perception of semantics which is a developed skill as verbal communicators.

It might be helpful to have a go-to sound and image in your mind to concentrate on whenever you feel the need
Wow, that was a whole bunch of information, concise and - i dare say - action packed. ❤

Need to zone in and dilate our focus to functional points, we can be good at one focus and be distracted in all other areas of life.

It's really incredible how the human experience is so fundamentally similar over thousands of years that we are still exploring the same phenomena even while living in such different ages.

I think flow is as much to do with emotional intelligence as juggling is. Frustration can be mistaken for Focus until you apply this to juggling.
