+loudenvier yes... Jiu Jitsu it means ART in japan...
@loudenvier
9 жыл бұрын
+monsterje Actually no, jitsu does not mean ART. It means "technique", "skill" (professional skill), "method", etc. That's why there is a "jutsu" (or jitsu in the wrong spelling) of tea, "jutsu" of paiting, etc. Myamoto Musashi, the greatest samurai/ronin of all time, thought that one should have knowledge of every "jutsu" out there to be complete, that's why he trained himself in painting, sculpture, tea serving, and, of course, fighting. Jiu-Jitsu means literally: "Method of Yielding/Redirecting"... which means a technique of NOT USING brute force to overcome opponents. It is IMPOSSIBLE to translate "JU" perfectly in other languages, as it is a concept that encompasses more than a single word..... We could translate ju as the concept of "flexibility" (not physical flexibility, but adaptability). I don't like the "softness" translation, as most people will use: "arte suave" to mean jiu-jitsu. It is NOT SOFT! :-) It's flexible, but not soft :-) I could go on and on and on... but I think you get what I mean. Jutsu, on the other hand, as I've already told, is easily translatable... :-)
