Florida panther on the brink of extinction makes a comeback
Florida panthers, also known as ghost cats, were on the brink of extinction, with only a few dozen left in the wild. But in 2016, a miracle happened, and now there are almost 200 as the species makes a comeback. Manuel Bojorquez reports.

What a beautiful comeback for the panther.😊
That man is amazing, and those cats are beautiful. ❤
I'm glad somebody finally understood the importance of interconnected habitats. The future is bright for our wild life. Thank you!
Such a great story. The patchwork of viable habitats is NECESSARY. We really can co-exist together but need to try and do more of this not just in FL but the US and World. Good story
Beautiful cats. So glad they are being helped .
This is a super important project, and one that hopefully gets repeated elsewhere. Big North American cats need such corridors to roam from area to area. Without such a corridor, their gene pool shrinks and they become plagued with genetic disorders. Birds and other migratory animals can benefit from such corridors, as well.
We need more people like him in the world 🙌🙌
I spend winters in central florida and run in the same small park 4-5 times a week. I have seen panthers in that park 3 times in the past 3 years. The most recent was during a race in the park. I was running along side another runner at 11 am when a panther🤪 came out of the brush and briefly ran toward us before disappearing into the brush! I was glad the other runner saw it too. The park administration the first two times told me i saw someone’s cat!! So i didn’t bother telling them about the last two sightings. Its like seeing a brea in the wild for the first time and being told it was a shaggy dog. 😜
That makes me happy. This is great news...
Thank you for this important and fascinating report. I LOVED seeing these amazing and beautiful felines! The images are stunning!
Omg, what great shots. This made me cry happy tears ❤
Wildlife corridor is much needed!
Beautiful and amazing creatures, and they are in our own backyard, not far away in some distant land. Awesome❤

I wish more people felt this way about wolves.
Thank you to all involved in keeping Florida the way it’s supposed to be! Dalé! ☮️ ❤️ 🇺🇸 🐈. FDT 24
My sister and friend say there is no good news. This is great news for this Florida Native to hear🤗
Rare bit of good news.
It wasn't a comeback, they blew out The Leafs in 5 games. Go Panthers 😂
These are great stories.
All it took was an encounter with the Maple Leafs! ;)
That must be the reason they just beat the Bruins and the Leafs!!
Gorgeous big cats. Amazing news, especially out of Florida. I can pretty much guarantee deWankis did everything in his power to PREVENT these beautiful animals from making a comeback.
boston really choked a 3-1 lead and one of the best records to some dying cats
so amazing 👏 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤🥰
Great news!
❤so beautiful. Keep those collars off them
I saw a panther in 87-88 in Dr. Inlet FL
I hope they win the Stanley Cup 🤞

Protect the wildlife corridor and do not build the highway through it. How about a moratorium on new building and stop the out of control number of peoplemoving here. The infrastructure is not prepared to handle all the people. There are no jobs besides low paying maintenance and hospitality. There aren't enough roads with sidewalks and safe bus kiosks. The water table is running dry. Nestle? There aren't enough medical services. When hurricanes hit new unknowledgeable people have no clue . Evacuations fail because we run outta gas.
Wow
Please help the Panthers you guys
Great stuff-thanks to Carlton Ward!
🙏
Animals have Souls. Humans have a Spirit and Souls.
So what about wildlife corridors
🇺🇸♥️
Are these the same as mountain lions?
That won’t last long when you have big companies like Taylor Morris just got approved to build 4500 new houses. Ash---!
Finally some actually interesting news that makes me think rather than this silly fear-reactionary stuck-in-the-moment crap about Title 42.
Sometime National Geographic too optimistic
Elusive? Years ago a Florida panther was spotted in my hometown in west-central Georgia. I saw one and someone took a picture of one along the riverwalk and submitted it to the local paper. Fortunately, no one was injured by it
Keep knocking down the Forests Rich people
Its called a puma ,couger or mountain lion where did the "Florida panther come into the game

Not familiar with Florida wildlife, apparently. This National Geographic special is not the complete story. The decline in population of the Florida Panther has been a on going problem since the early 1980’s. They are still, consistently being murdered by urban sprawl.
A poacher either retired or passed away is my guess.
"...hunting panthers digitally..." Wait, what?! He doesn't use "tape"? Kudos to CBS for entering the 21st century. Too many other outlets talk about "Trump tapes" etc.
The billions of dollars people around the world spend each year on animal statues and animal paintings, and stuffed animals don't lie. Not to mention sculpting them, and drawing them. We miss our cousins mankind lived among for 99% of its history..... the wild animals that for the most part, we removed. Including the extincted ones.
How did we know they were almost extinct if they are so good at hiding??? Heck one might be hiding next to me right now but I wouldn’t know it..
No worries DeSantis will get rid of them like all thing’s wonderful

@Becca Boone -- When one of your kids is molested by a pedophile, will you be letting them know that ignorance isn't wonderful?
Hopefully they can hunt some of the invasive species out there
