This is a perfect example why our political leaders need to make concrete houses MANDATORY for all builders! No more Sheetrock and wood cheaply made homes!

Sure and let's make a law that it has to be polished granite stone too. None of this cheap cement stuff. Or better yet. Gold!! All houses must be made of gold. Screw the people who cannot afford gold houses. If you cannot afford a gold house you shouldn't be allowed to build a house.

kkknotcool It is perfectly reasonable to require buildings to be made out of certain materials so they can survive local conditions. Reinforced concrete is certainly more expensive than aluminum and wood, but hardly excessive.

Ben Robbins How is it reasonable to force people to only use one kind of building material? It's their house. Let em build inferior houses if they want. It's not hurting you.

That was the most devastating and ferocious storm we've ever seen. The video is breathtaking but it doesn't even come a fraction close to what it was like to live through it. Some of the damage is still not fixed over a year later down here. This area was annihilated.

If they do not want their homes to be destroy then live far from the oceans where there's Hurricane or Tornadoes are. I wouldn't live in the states that close by the oceans but up north or central. Hoping people learn the lessons not to buy houses near oceans such as Florida, Georgia, Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Oregon, Washington, North-South Carolina and those border states in the east side ocean. That's where Hurricane can come at any times.

Down the south, west and east are the most expensive homes that I ever heard of. But actually it's not all about how expensive but you wouldn't want to live near the ocean, Hurricane or Tornadoes to destroy your homes. And you don't want to clean all the mess that destroy by it. Guess everyone think different so that's up to their choice whether live or die. I could careless if they don't take the warning. Just let people pay the price without any concerning. That's what they want then it can't be helped it.

Wendi Lyfe Not talking about how expensive of home. It's what you can afford. Don't know why you talk about death. You must be afraid of your own shadow. I know some in Florida that self insure their trailer or mobile home. If it's destroyed they build it or buy it again. Cheapest way to go if you like living on the water, palm trees, and feeling ocean breezes. Most have second and third homes and only there in winters. Plenty of insurance companies here so it's no big deal. You can hire someone to clean up or do some or all of it yourself. I'm here on Marco Island I have a $650k short sale condo I bought for $240k during housing crash. Was hit with 90-140mph winds for hours and the eye passed right over, the winds stoped and the sun came out for an hour and half with thousands of birds in the sky....the wind and rains started again and we went back inside. I'm on the 6th floor of a condominium that's built with steel and concrete. I have hurricane rated windows and push button motor drive hurricane shutters that come down over windows and outer balcony edge. No damage. Was out walking beach next morning and outdoor barbecue at noon. We don't have electricity yet and need to boil our water other than that it's no big deal. Also have a condo in Oklahoma for over 20 years with no issues. Just stay in your safe place. We will be fine.

I live in key west. Understand most of us don't even own cars on that tiny island, just bicycle and moped if lucky. Thankfully I bought a truck last month and got my family out. Still waiting to hear if I have a home to return to. Tired of people and comments that can't even begin to imagine what it's like living on an island that's closer to Cuba then America. Lot of us had nowhere to go...

I live in key largo and I would rather live in the small towns of the keys than anywhere else in the world. The people are genuine and nothing like the majority of the world. Locals are peaceful and polite and some of the best people this world has to offer. The tourists is the most hectic part and their concept of our area is misleading. The keys are a beautiful place to live and relax and most locals don't care what materialistic possessions you have you could be homeless or a millionaire and they will treat you the same. Things don't matter , our people do. So you ask why would anyone live in the keys my response , to have a pure sense of community where the people are just as pure as the beautiful sunsets and ocean water, away from the fast paced hectic world that the rest of the world populates.

everything is damaged except for the concrete foundation homes...what is the spiritual lesson here? Build your house on concrete rock foundations.....what is the rock? The rock of truth is the fullness of righteousness from Jesus Christ. The storm is the evil temptations and tests that come to all on the earth...
