So, when you buy a home, does that mean you can do anything you want? The answer is no. There's still rules, dummy.

@@MaxItUpwithMarta They are still doing that!?? Thought there was a big clampdown on it in the late 80’s, early 90’s? Or was that just Key West in the mid - late 80’s? Parents had a killer apartment in Key West as a getaway place when in jr high, high school.

So for a fee you can knock down the tree on YOUR LAND but without the FEE you can 't. Doesn't seem like they own the island.

They didn't pay the license fees so that why the city is upset. The public idk why they're upset seeing they're all hypocrites and we're just switching on someone doing what they should be allowed to do.

What good is an island you can't touch? I'm sure no permits will ever have been allowed. Just make it public land at this point. Useless to own

But I do wonder, do island owners also pay property tax? I do know property tax is still owed on vacant lands so nothing in the US of A is really owned by the American people that claims to own anything. If I understand correctly, in some cases you need approval or permits from city/state to remove trees/vegetation on any land or property.

That island is still part of the city of Marathon. Legally it's no different from any other plot of land within city limits.

Very true. It's pointless to own land you can't even touch. They should never let it become private land if this is the issue
