Georgia and Florida. Two bordering southern states in these United States. Two of the fastest growing states in the country right now.
Florida is just slightly bigger.
Both are two of the most ethnically diverse states in the country. 25.6% of those living in Florida identify as either Hispanic or Latino. 32.2% of those living in Georgia identify as African American.
The largest cities in both are about the same size. Atlanta, in Georgia has a metropolitan population of about 5.9 million, and Miami, Florida, has a metro population of about 6.2 million.
According to Forbes magazine, both have promising economic futures. The unemployment rate in both states is about the same. Top industries in Florida include tourism, agriculture, and international trade. Top industries in Georgia include agriculture as well, energy, and film. Wait...film? Huh? Yep, they film a lot more TV shows and movies in Georgia due to tax incentives. In fact, the only two states in the country that produce more big budget movies and TV shows is California and New York. Georgia will give 20% tax credits for big budget films...30% if the show or film shows its logo at the end of the credits.
Both have similar percentages of citizens who got at least a bachelor’s degree or higher.
Both are two of the oldest states in the country. However, Florida was settled by Europeans long before Georgia was. Most of the American Indian nations who resided historically in Florida and Georgia were wiped out due to disease brought over by the Spanish. Speaking of the Spanish, they had much more of a presence in Florida, controlling it off and on until 1819, after the United States basically just said, yeah it’s ours now. In 1565, the Spanish established St. Augustine in Florida, which today still exists and is the oldest city in the United States. In the 1700s, different American Indian tribes, notably the Muscogee, aka Creeks, moved into Florida. Over the years a new nation formed of these groups called the Seminole. The Seminole were well known for their resistance to American encroachment on their lands. The most notable American Indian nation in Georgia was the Cherokee, who lived fairly peacefully with Georgians until several of them wanted their land. Yeah, just like the Seminole, most of the Cherokee were eventually kicked out of Georgia, many sent via the infamous Trail of Tears.
But about 100 years before that, Georgia was one of the original 13 British colonies and a place where American Indian land was respected. Founded by General James Oglethorpe in 1732, he wanted Georgia to be a place where English citizens who were imprisoned for debt, as well as “the worthy poor,” could start over. He was pretty strict with his rules in those early years, banning alcohol and even banning slavery.

Especially since Georgia is such a fascinating country, with its rose revolution recently implementing universal healthcare in only three years, in fact its life expectancy is not far off from the state of Mississippi despite earningh an 8th their average wage, it also reduced its corruption significantly from among the worst in the world to now being comparable to some US states and increasing its safety from being in a state of war 10 years ago to now having a murder rate significantly lower than the US, it might not be such an uneven comparison as it might seem on the surface

The last time I had to actually pull winter clothes out in South Florida was 1989. That year South Florida got a really good frost. Cental Florida is a little bit cooler but not that much. Id pick North GA over FL any day. It's way too hot, muggy, and buggy down there. North GA has perfect climate and plenty of deciduous and mountainous terrain which I like. Not too hot and muggy in the summer, not too cold and treacherous in the winter. Not to mention the hurricanes. We get the leftovers of them, but by the time they get to Atlanta/north they are usually just tropical storms. They can have that place.

Florida has many BIG cities o choose from, while Georgia has one BIG city. Florida has a large Short line. But Georgia is small in comparison. Florida stays hot for a long time and rarely gets cold on the southern end. Florida is a better state for tourism. A lot of the cruise ships leave out of Florida. It is like an extension part of the Caribbean. Florida is known to be like a NORTHERN state, because of it complicated racial and cultural demographics.

A lot of that has to do with the fact that major portions of Florida were developed by Northerners. For example did you know Miami was founded by a Widow from Cleveland, Ohio named Julia Tuttle? Or that most of the development along Florida's East coast was by the railroad tycoon Henry Flagler who founded the Palm Beaches and was from Hyde Park, New York? The "Yankee" influence is strong in Florida.

I am from South Africa, living in Cape Town (maybe Cape vs Cairo in the possible future? wink wink). A very old, yet very young country at the same time. For example: you do know that you are older than my (also the vast majority of the citizens) right to vote which was only realized in 1994. Technically the current country has only been unified and brought into existence under the 1996 constitution. The troublesome hurdles we are experiencing now has to do with things like nationhood, the significance of the past and the inability to compromise- hence my fascination with US history especially in the early period when all of Europe was certain that the US (and the republican experiment) would fail. p.s. Compromise of 1850 is really catchy! I guess you're living up to the name Mr Beat. Thank you for these videos and the knowledge you have brought to the world. All the best in your future endeavors.

It’s sunny a shit ton in Florida, half of the summer tho it’s raining and there’s storms, and we have shit humidity. It’s a solid state, I don’t ever see the shit on the media about florida in real life, and I’m pretty sure the weird shit that happens in Florida happens everywhere else it’s just not shown or given attention.

Also a lotta ex-New Yorkers in Florida. You can find NY style pizzerias run by them every now and then with amazing pizza. I grew up eating that style of pizza, and when I went up to NY to visit with family for the first time I didn't notice a difference in quality or taste when I finally got to try the pizza there. Location: Atlanta Description: Southern cities on the East Coast, such as Atlanta, Georgia, at an 800 foot above sea level height, will watch a flood approach. This is due in part to the timing of the stretch and rip, as the stretch will be sustained for the better part of an hour during a time when water will rush from the poles, where it has moved during the stopped rotation, and will have the push of on-coming water behind it as it flows up against the coastline. Atlanta, stationed between the Gulf and the Atlantic, will also find itself at a place where two floods, both with their own timing of ebb and flow, clash. This has the potential of heightening the water, forcing it up to an astonishing degree, where the clash occurs. ZetaTalk 1: www.zetatalk.com/info/tinfx068.htm
