She has said: "I want my music to sound like throwing yourself out of a tree or a building, or as if you're being sucked down into the ocean and you can'tbreathe. It's something overwhelming and all-encompassing that fills you up, and you're either going to explode with It or you're Just going to dissapear ". And thats exactly what it feel like listening to her music. Sometimes I think my chest is going to explode and I feel really euphoric. No other artist makes me feel so alive.

For me this is THE indie-girl album. Florence is the only one that can sing in cursive and not annoy me. I love how each song has such sonic highs and lows so it always keeps your attention

it's not even "cursive", it's just not an american singing accent. "cursive" singing is like, violently, pretentiously over-produced and american like old halsey and all her imitators. florence just uses different vowels sometimes.

It's because she doesn't sing in cursive. Florence knows inflection and volume changels and vowel adjustments. Indie girls don't belt and their falsettos are usually glorified sighing. Not that there is much wrong with the " cursive singing " but Florence's singing style SOMETIMES reminds me of not only Grace Slick but Dolores from The Cranberries in a small amount. It's that touch of like, old traditional style that was used in Celtic music in traditional songs and folk music.

Cursive? I think you mean legato which in addition to being stylistic choice, is also sign of healthy voice and technique as the notes in a phrase remain connected.

I miss this era of music. Songs like eyes on fire by blue foundation, Lana’s 1st album, just a bunch of great music came through from 2012-2015

I remember hearing Cosmic love all those years ago when it was first released...I cried, i ran to the computer, relistened, cried some more, looked up the lyrics, bawled like a baby and then kept the song on repeat for the following 24hrs. Here i am, so many years later, still loving the beautiful creature that is Florence Welch 🥰

Yeah this album was Florence's SCRAPBOOK. It's a collection of songs partially formed out of poems and stories that she'd written through-out the years. So they span over a lengthy period. One of them " Kiss With A Fist " is an ODE to her past life in music where she was obsessed with bands like Greenday to the point she was in a cover band before she found her own sound and who she was. :) It's also one of my favorites because it is so COLORFUL. It's a kaleidoscope of music.

it’s also such a shame you never reacted to bonus tracks from Ceremonials (like Strangeness and charm) and HBHBHB (like Pure Feeling). hope you’ll do that, cause ALL of them are hidden gems, I wonder why they never made it to the actual record :(

You need to listen to Kate Bush!!! She's a huge influence for many artists you've reacted to, like Florence and Bjork. She's absolutely incredible. I recommend you start with "Hounds of Love", from 1985.

Kate Bush is literally The Beatles in terms of inspiration. Find a female British singer who isn't doing super poppy music that ISN'T influenced by her or someone she influenced? It's impossible. Same goes for female indie singers in general. That woman is the MOTHER of Indie music.

You made it to Lungs. I've been patiently waiting for this reaction. This is probably my favorite CD out of all of Florence's albums. If you want more Florence, then you might want to check out songs that she's made for movie soundtracks. I absolutely love her song "Over the Love" which I found out was made for the recent Great Gatsby film years ago.

This is my absolute favorite album. Brings back memories of my university years.

Yeees thank you! This album brings back some great memories. It was my first Glastonbury and she was the first artist I had ever seen live back in 2009 when she broke out. Brilliant. You're absolutely correct. With Flo you just need to give yourself into her ridiculous energy. No chill. Feels like a workout every time you listen to her lol This is my favorite album of hers. Bird Song is underrated. If you want more Florence I would suggest her more recent songs Moderation and Light of Love. Also Which Witch and Remain Nameless. Over The Love. Some songs that are amazing that you missed. Also I'd suggest watching her music videos - The Odyssey vids, especially which were released for HBHBHB. It's kind of like Tropico from LDR. The stories are linked. Thank you for your awesome reactions! If you like Flo I'd also recommend giving Of monsters And Men a listen. They're an Icelandic band with an amazing ability to tell a story.

This is where love begun. Dog Days Are Over introduced me to it, Cosmic Love made me fall for the journey. Blinding was a discovery I'll never forget. Drumming Song appeal was instant. The acoustic version of My Boy Buids Coffins is haunting, and my mind always pair it with Girl With One Eye and I'm Not Calling You a Liar, it's like its own universe inside Lungs. Years came by and here am I addicted to Swimming.

Still remember listening to this album so much that I stripped it in my car's cd player :D It's no longer my favourite of theirs but whenever I give it a relisten, it's just such a good time, you know? Really happy you got to give this one a listen Ben! Happy Early New Years! *edit: also, I think maybe why Lungs isn't spoken of as much is because a lot of Florence's audience evolved with her music so we basically arrived to it chronologically. I'm sure experiencing it in a different order changes how we connect with music, you know? Still, it's an absolutely massive album and deserves all the praise.

Kiss with a fist is a song she sang in a band that she was in with her boyfriend? I think at the time called ashok. its a bit different, more upbeat lol, it’s on KZread Also, she said in an interview that for the drums in drumming song she was inspired by lil mama’s Lipgloss

I feel like all of her projects are lyrically connected. I'm Not Calling You A Liar has lyrics about letting somebody kill her, just like Ceremonials where she wants the ocean to kill her and taker her in the song Never Let Me Go, just like in HBHBHB in the song St. Jude where Jude is the saint of loss and therefore killing her relationship, just like in High As Hope in the track Hunger....anyway you get the idea. Florence is probably the best lyricist in modern music.

This album is literally perfect! I think it’s her most underrated album outta her whole discography, lyrically ,sonically and instrumentally, it’s mind blowing how talented she is.

idk why but in my head 'Girl With One Eye' and 'Bird Song' are parts of the same narrative, i always pictured it as if the bird saw what she done in the first song, and now this is haunting her

sometimes you seem so confused by sudden pauses in the songs, so cute :) and that’s what this album is all about for me! you never know what to expect in the next song or the next line, it’s pure gold!

Still her best album. Cosmic Love blew people away. Oh Land (2011) deserves a reaction. The second (and best) album from the Danish artist. Mika's best album, Life in Cartoon Motion (2007) was a great debut worthy of a reaction.

AH so happy you reacted to this album!! How wonderful to see you riding that incredible energy. She truly doesn't have a bad album and this one is pure magic. I'll never forget the first time I heard Cosmic Love- it blew my mind and I hardly knew what to do with myself haha!

If you wanna listen to something truly slow, sad and emotional. I suggest you listening to Daughter- If you leave. Will have you feel things you never felt before.

Many people didn't give the debut their full time because the sound is apparently 'overwhelming' but I too find it iconic. My Boy Builds Coffins has always been a favourite, The 'Boy' shes singing about is Death (but a personified version like the Grim Reaper etc), and how no one can escape death. Kiss with a Fist was actually written for her band Ashok which she was a part of with her then boyfriend, just before FATM was founded. There's a lost album called Plans by Ashok that has some of Florence's most iconic work imo of course xD

BTW Kiss with a Fist was featured on a show called United States of Tara starring Toni Collette, its a favorite of mine...

i'd like to reccomend you two artists. number one is the amazing susanne sundfor. her album "music for people in trouble" is absolute fantastic. number two is something completely different, the album "dead magic" by susanne anna von hausswolff. i don't know how to call her music. chamber doom? post metal? it's simply anna von hausswolff. by the way, she has one of the best voices i know. you can also check out her "they hoped for a name" which she recorded for the royal swedish ballet

After hearing Girl With One Eye for years and not getting it, this is my interpretation: Florence is talking from two perspectives: a guy takes the ‘innocence’ of a girl (symbolized by her one eye or keeping one eye open) and discards her afterwards, to which the girl with one eye seeks revenge (which a popular phrase for revenge is ‘an eye for an eye’). The guy is the one saying “hey girl with one eye, keep your filthy fingers out of my pie” as an implicit threat to stay out of his business/not to cross him, but she replies by saying, “I’ll cut your little heart out because you made me cry”. The way the song is structured it sounds like they’re having an argument which escalates with the intensity of the song until finally the girl with one eye has the last line, implying she was the one that won in the end.

Yes! I've been waiting for this one ever since you started doing Florence. Kind of an underrated album, glad you loved. Girl With One Eye is actually a cover of a song by Florence's boyfriend at the time, I'm glad she included it though cause she really got to show off her grungey side with it. Really adds to the eclectic vibe of the album. Before she was Florence and the Machine her and Isabella were an act called Florence Robot and Isa Machine, they also released a few songs under the name Florrible And Misrabella. They're worth checking out if you love Florence which I can see you do! I think you might enjoy MUNA's album Saves The World, no one ever reacts to it but it's stellar indie pop/rock
