That’s awesome!!
I have watched several YT videos about furniture flipping, and I had considered giving it a try. However, the realization hit me that it is a LOT of work. Just too much sanding, painting and making repairs. I've never felt confident in my painting abilities anyways, so that doesn't help either. Maybe people would think I am just being lazy for not wanting to do the work to fix up the furniture, but there are other opportunities to make money that doesn't have all the hassles of fixing up old furniture. Actually, as far as making money with furniture, I think it would be better to focus on flipping couches. Yes, there will be some repair work in that too, but it will be minor compared to the work done to fix up tables, dressers, chairs and other similar things. And people are making a lot of money flipping couches. I just think there are easier ways to make money than through the hassles of fixing up furniture (and selling it of course). Having said all this, I do commend you for having it in you to do all that time consuming, hard work. I just think there are easier ways to make money. I've found several good things here on YT that I am planning on trying.

Aw man :( you could start by doing small flips that you can do and keep outside. Or work on things you already own if both of them are open to it
No finished product is so disappointing. That's why I watch these. Well, not a total loss. You did have some good tips. I bought a Wagner 20 years ago and used it once. Have they improved since? Apparently not.

Question - I've seen a couple of videos where people have used a stripper before sanding. How do you know when to use that versus cleaning it and then just sanding it like you did in your video?
@TheMissFlips
4 ай бұрын
It’s honestly personal preference, but it’s important to note that the more you sand, the more you risk sanding through veneer. So if you strip first, it makes that less likely

Hey I'm so sorry to bother but on minute 3:15 you said lower grids twice, did you mean to say you use higher grids for the finish ups? Since you said the lower the more chance you have to perforate the wood? Thank you :)

Good intentions, but I’d love to see the top edge of those drawers after you sprayed them in place. It couldn’t have been a sharp edge. I would have removed them from the chest, taped them off, and sprayed them separately.

What are the requirements to furniture flip, i keep hearing about licenses & permits and etc., is that needed at all at any state or no?

Not that I know of. The only thing you’ll need is a business license if you intend on making it your main source of income
It's sad that the client wanted to downgrade a nice piece this way. you seemed to be doing a good job of reducing the possible damage to the original piece though. well done

@@TheMissFlips in the video at 9:28 there is a bottle in your hand that you spray on the side of the furniture before you paint. Is that just water ? And why? Thank you again !!!
@TheMissFlips
7 ай бұрын
@@jpyo3232 aaah I see. It’s just water. For the kind of chalk paint I was using, it helps to water it down first. This helps to get more coverage out of your paint. But instead of watering a container of paint and potentially wasting some, I prefer just to spray the surface I’m painting first.
How much water did you put in the paint ? Ratio?
@TheMissFlips
7 ай бұрын
It’s more of a gut thing lol I start small and add a bit more as needed until the consistency is right. You want the paint to run off the stick in a consistent stream. Not watery fast drips and not thick to where it’s barely dripping. Hope that makes sense. It also helps to just see what works for you and what you like to work with

why paint over veneer? why not just take the veneer off, reglue new desired type and then apply polyurethane? or just take the veneer off completely and paint over the wood?

um... there are stupid questions. first, have you ever removed a veneer? there is no "just remove and replace the veneer" that takes less time than painting. second, Hopefully the client sells this to someone with taste who can remove the paint and actually restore the piece
@coreymccurry

@HomeFromFarAway ..and there are stupid people who like to butt in on conversations too but you don't see me complaining...
I've got a question for you, Well a couple (1) do you just flip furniture? (2) who does any repair work that needs to be done? So let review what i see you're sanding finish off veneer .(is that what you stated?) Sanding veneer is not smart .you would've been better using a chemical stripper at least this way yo don't sand thru the veneer. But then again you don't do antiques. I'm finding that more and more people are throwing their painted furniture,
@TheMissFlips
Жыл бұрын
I think there’s a time and place for everything. I do everything myself. For antiques, I almost always use stripper but for this one, since I already had to scuff sand the entire piece, I just decided to go with sanding. Some people like painted furniture and pay good money for it. Others prefer wood. That’s mainly what I do. I recommend you take a look at the rest of my channel
@geoffreyopulski138

@@TheMissFlips So lets take a look at something, You said you clean your furniture to remove dirt and grime so it doesn't affect how your paint adheres.. What you fail to understand is ,Is that there is embeded dirt in the finish dirt that cleaning alone won't take out. NOT to mention, the fact that furniture polish leaves a waxy finish. A finish that your cleaning solution can not remove. That's why chemically stripe furniture "antique" or otherwise. I've been restoring furniture well over 20 yrs. I restore everything from 1950's back to the early 19 20's and earlier!!!! And by the way you can sand thru veneer with 120 ,220 grit sandpaper. i know because i've done it.
Do you genuinely need a mask that is so elaborate? I would imagine that’s very expensive.
@TheMissFlips

Yes, you definitely do. I’d say this is the most important part of refinishing. If you breath in saw dust, sanding dust, paint particles, it can cause serious problems like cancer
