I am just a race horse and horse race enthusiast who has never been to an actual race. My late husband taught himself handicapping and good at math so he understood odds. He put himself through college betting on the ponies. When tuition was due, a trip to Aksarben was "due." My dear late John loved the horses, not just betting on them. My fond memory was the visit to horse country in 1968 when Mom and Dad took my sister and me to Kentucky horse country. Went to Calumet, saw Citation in the flesh, and I think the other horse was Needles. Spendthrift was our next stop, and we saw Nashua, Swaps, Never Bend, Creme dela Creme, Gallant Man, Raise A Native, and Sword Dancer. What a day!

She's so right. They HAVE to want to do it! It's like they say, 'you can lead them I water, but you cannot make them drink' it! So true! ❤

When I first saw Flightline, to me it was evident that he would do great things and that seems to be the case. It would be nice if we could see him run in the Dubai World Cup. When he won the Breeders Cup Classic, they did not post the fractions for the mile and a quarter distance. They seemed to be hung up on the blistering time for the first seven furlongs at 107.99 seconds and even that was not confirmed. I will continue to search for the official fractions for the entire race. Everyone who can should get a look at Flightline because it is a pleasure to watch him at any distance.

Its really sad the stars of the sport don't run competitively for 2/3 yrs atleast . It would greatly help the sport. And improve the breed. But, unfortunately $ always comes first...

Crazy as it sounds Secretariat only raced for 16 months but he raced 21 times. FL raced for 18 months but ran in 6 races. It's not neccesarily how long they race but how many times they race. Even 50 years ago most horses didn't run for 2 or 3 years but they ran more often then nowdays.

I read that Flightline had been having hoof problems so if that's partly the reason for early retirement, I'm glad! It means the owners cared about the horse's health, not only stud fees!
