Flight Review - Vueling London Gatwick to Barcelona

I recently flew with Vueling from London Gatwick to Barcelona. Vueling is now Spain's largest airline and is considered to be one of the better low cost carriers in Europe. But is it any good?
This was probably the best value flight I have ever taken, given I was effectively paid around £60 to add these flights to a cruise booking I made with Norwegian Cruise Lines as I explain in the video. Plus a couple of time saving strategies for navigating Gatwick's South Terminal...

    👍 Thanks again Matt for some thought provoking information on an aieline. Was supposed to fly with them from Munich to Rome. Flight was cancelled for no apparent reason, very unfriendly staff, no support and no compensation. Thanks to my brilliant travel agent of more than 30 years we were rebooked on Easyjet and got to Rome 2 hours later than planned. After loads of emails etc we were refunded what we paid. That day I decided never to fly low cost again. I haven't and have not yet been dissapointed by the full service airlines. Had a quick business trip to Cape Town with SAA this week. Cheers Peet. Its a point I've made before but it might have been worth mentioning it in this video too - LCCs are fantastic (ish) when they work. They can be absolutely terrible when things go wrong... I did factor that in to this purchase decision - Vueling flies multiple times a day to Barcelona and so there'd be amply opportunity for the airline to recover things on that route if it went wrong... Great to see an up to date review of Vueling. Sorry to be a smart arse, but judging by that quick glance from the air bridge and by the number of doors wasn’t it an A321, rather than an A320? I know the airline flies them from Gatters. We have a Vueling flight next week from Gatwick to Almeria. As air stairs are provided at both ends in Spain and the plane rotates so that back door is closest to the terminal we took the back row! However as I am 6ft3” tall I am now reconsidering that after seeing your video! Re: BA lounge access .. we booked our forthcoming flights via Vueling as we found the price £25 more expensive on BA, however I think that’s because BA price included a case in the hold: they didn’t offer HBO fare. On avios, I added my IB account number to gain the points, as BA was not an option. Is there any other way to collect the avios other than Aer Lingus or their own club?

Everything EK touched went extremely smooth, everything the airports touched (on both ends) went wrong...I mean like 1 hour taxi to the ramp in JFK, 1 hour on the tarmac in MXP due to French ATC strikes. No problem - thanks for watching! It's Gatwick's South terminal, which is where the rail station is so its quite easy to get to the check in when you arrive. I'd say (and Gatwick agrees!) that you should get there no less than 2 hours before departure. If you're a little nervous then arriving up to 3 hours beforehand should give you plenty of time. That security queue was ridiculous but I was there in the morning which is peak departure time for the airport. It may be just as bad in the evening, but you might also just walk straight though!

    Hello sir, I will be flying from Gatwick to Rome via Vueling in a few weeks, I live in Malaysia and the booking I made was from Malaysia, I was shocked at how small their free cabin baggage allowance is, it's super tiny (talking about the under seat luggage). I can't even check in online as they said my country isn't on the list, I see a few videos of people struggling to do the check-in at the airport whereby the kiosk is offline, so besides being there early, what do we need to look out for? Mine is the basic fare with my family so no add ons, wanted to keep it cheap, do they allow vitamins or prescribed medication for the cabin baggage, I know that liquid is usually 1L per person but what else do I need to look forward to?

  • @MattsPlanet

    @MattsPlanet

    2 ай бұрын

    I'd certainly get to the airport early and try checking in once you're in the UK... You may not be able to as you may need to present passports at check-in as you're not from an EU country. You can certainly carry what you like in hand baggage - you're advised to carry a copy of the prescription for any medications so you can prove they're yours but its very rare for anyone to check.... And liquids need to be less than 100ml - quite a few airports have newer scanners which allow more but you can't yet guarantee you'll get one of them when you travel so its best to observe the lower limits.

    Talking about Alex Cruz, he drove Vueling to the ground. The year he left, Vueling nearly had their licence revoked in Catalunya and had to pay 33% of their profits as fines and compensation to passengers. He expanded it without an iota of common sense and the EU261 ripped up the airlines as the crew and planes were all back to back. Guess what other brand Alex Cruz turned to dust. Goldcar, currently the bottom 3 of all car rentals in the Mediterranean. Once had the highest number of complaints of any company. I'm surprised that man even has a job. Oh wait...he joined another airline...! Vueling is nice now. Mostly on time, great customer service and decent fares. True - a small sample... But that's 6 flights with them now in total, all of which were good. But Ryanair will leave you in the lurch too if things go wrong?

    Vueling ist die unverschämteste und schlechteste Airline, mit der ich bisher zu tun hatte. Koffer seit Monaten vermisst und keine Reaktion von Vueling. Ich rate allen von dieser Airline ab!

    Which basically translates to Avoid Avoid Avoid!!! Vueling is not exempt from my usually Low Cost Carrier criticism - they're decent and can be good when things go well, they can be a challenge if things go wrong...
