As a HUGE fan of Guthrie Govan, (guitarist), I never tire of performances like this. In the world of music, there is no "greatest", as it's too subjective. Favorites are based on one's taste. I don't particularly enjoy listening to Celine Dion sing, but will argue with the haters all day that she is absolutely one of the greatest singers to ever breathe air, because regardless of my taste in singers, her abilities are staggering. Hans introduces Guthrie to his audiences as "the greatest guitar player in the world." Guthrie would be the first to disagree. But the reason so many guitarists back that up is because we can, at least to some degree, agree. You may have a more favorite jazz guitarist, or classical guitarist, or fusion guitarist, or metal guitarist, or country guitarist, or folk guitarist, etc...but...Guthrie is outstanding at all of those genres and it is simply...mind-boggling! So I avoid saying "greatest" in regards to anything that isn't a measurable metric, especially if it's based in art, but I would absolutely say, he embodies talent, musical vocabulary, ability, discipline, virtuosity, and versatility better than anyone else on the instrument, at least out of the pool of professionals known to the public. 🙌🏻
