An ex-military friend of mine told me a story about one time he was flying in a freighter convoy. They had a fighter escort, but mostly as a deterrent since they weren't expecting a lot of trouble. So, naturally, most of the the rocket-jockeys decided to show off and poke fun at the massive cargo planes. Well, a cargo pilot decided to shut them up and transmitted "Oh, YEAH? Look what I can do!". Then the radio was silent for some time, until somebody asked "What did you do? I didn't see anything." The reply, "Well, I got up to stretch my legs, grabbed a cup of coffee from the galley, took a leak, and then sat back down in my nice comfy chair. Lots of leg room in this cockpit! All you schmucks crammed into your tiny little planes are soooo unlucky..." They sulked for the rest of the day.

Here you go, I know a guy who retired from the US Navy after a career flying the old P3 Orion maritime patrol aircraft. It was during the cold war days, and he and his crew were assigned to fly a patrol route in the Indian Ocean looking for Soviet Submarines. The best case scenario was that this would be a 12 hour flight, and might be longer if they found something. Along the way they discovered that the ground crew had failed to restock the galley, and there was no food on the aircraft. So you had a bunch of young guys with nothing to do but endlessly fly over empty ocean, and work sensors looking for something that probably wasn't there, and think about how hungry they were. One of the crew casually said, "I wish we could stop for pizza." Long story short, the furthest point of the patrol route followed the coast of Australia just outside their territorial waters, so they contacted the unicom operator at Perth Australia, convinced them to order a pizza for delivery in 30 minutes. They then called Perth approach control, identified themselves as US Navy flight with their call sign, received clearance, and landed at Perth. They met the pizza guy, and paid with a credit card. Then, bold as can be, got departure clearance. As they were taking off, someone finally noticed the full combat load out of live torpedos under the wings. It seems that other nations get a little cranky about even friendly allied nations showing up packing that level of firepower without setting it up through diplomatic channels. The story ends with him and his flight deck crew in the wing commanders office being asked, "Do you have anything to say for yourself?" "We were hungry, sir." That, he says, is probably why he retired from the navy as a commander instead of a captian. 😆

Confessions of a navy aircrew: I was an acoustic sensor operator in a navy P-3c in the early 90's. Our squadron was the only squadron back then with a female crew member. Now, the P-3 is a big plane (modeled off the Lockheed Electra), that has a galley, 2 bunk beds, and bathroom, in the rear of the fuselage. The thing is, the squadron's budget did not allow for the toilet to be used as the chemicals needed were too expensive. The only thing we could use if we had to go, was a large trash bag over the toilet, which we would have to tie up and carry with us until we landed, and a urinal, which was a tall but slender metal tube which was emptied upon landing. Since everything relating to flying back in those days was geared for male crews, our sole female crewmember had to get a little creative if she wanted to relief herself. On one training flight, where we were simulating torpedo runs, she had asked the pilot to give her a few minutes to use the bathroom before starting the next torpedo run. After about 5 minutes, the pilot called me on the radio and asked me if she had come out yet. I guess I must have not said "nah" clear enough, because to the pilot (so he claims) it sounded like a "yeah" and proceeded to dive down to 200 feet above sea level, which buffeted the plane severely, and after 20 seconds pulled a high speed, high angle break away. The poor girl stumbled out of the bathroom, flightsuit soaked, looking ready to kill someone.

My dad was combat camera with the B29s in Guam and Tinian. The only story I remember him telling was the custom was whoever used the toilet first, pretty much a bucket, had to clean it out after the plane got back from Japan. So it ended up with everyone straining to tough it out as long as possible, and as soon as someone gave in, the pilots had to crank up the trim as everyone rushed, well some had to crawl through the tunnel over the bomb bays, to the back of the plane. Every time I see some footage of B29s I always wonder if that was something dad shot.

I was meeting a friend at the Logan Airport/Hyatt hotel a few years ago when an aircrew was getting off a small van with luggage. Just woman after woman kept coming off in gray and purple outfits into the lobby. I was waiting for my friend in the lobby and heard these women speaking w/a foreign accent. I asked who they were and where from?? They were absolutely stunningly beautiful women from the now defunct Iceland based WOW airlines. Every one of them was a model in uniform. An hour later they emerged in civilian clothes to go out and hotter still. Stunning...just....stunningly hot Icelandic women.

While being a crew chief in the Air Force, we have quite a few stories. One of my fellow crew chiefs told the story of one of his trips TDY overseas. They landed in a country where there were nude beaches. The flight crew, a male pilot and a female copilot, advised the ground crew the beach was off limits. Once the after flight inspection was completed, and they got to their hotel, they decided to hit the beach in the nude. While walking down the beach, they ran into the flight crew, also in the nude. Nothing was said, and the subject was not brought up again during the trip.

I like feeling the pressure on the take off run and the sound of the jet enginees, once leveled I try to work but I end up sleeping during the entire flight. Weather conditions can't wake me up from sleeping. 2-I sit only on the window seat, if I'm awake I take pictures of dusk, dawn, cities lights during the night, clouds or others airplanes if there is sunlight. Idrink only tomato juice, no salt no pepper, just tomato juice. BONUS: I'm afraid of of turboprops engines, it's completly irrationa,l but in my mind, the blades are so fragile and slow that they can't keep the airplane airborne and the airplaine willsurely crash. I have flown multiple times on turboprop and they never crashed, but I still don't trust the thrust.

That last story is why us strip club bouncers always walk the ladies out to their cars/cabs/rides, and make sure they are safely going down the road when their shift is over. They have to put up with enough crap inside the club, so there's no reason for them to put up with it out of the club as well. They pay us well for this, but we'd happily do it for free if it means no one gets hurt.

We had one girl that lived a block and a half away. She would always bitch about having someone walk her home because she didn't want to wait. She tried to sneak out all the time. I was grabbing some food at a restaurant near her condo when I saw some dude trying to drag her to his car her after she had tried to walk home alone. She never did that again.

I used to be an NOPD officer assigned to the French Quarter. We would make a pass down Bourbon Street early in the morning for this very reason. Every once in a while we would find a bouncer flagging us down because of some drunk and unruly tourist trying to hook up with a stripper who dealt with enough crap all night.

Ok Kelsey, you'll like this. I was telling my bf the story of the captain stuck in the car, which is funny, but I felt badly for the first officer who was put in that situation. So my bf says "well, how come you're allowed to fly alone" and I responded "I can fly alone because the plane I fly weighs less than my car. The cockpit of a huge jet has way too much going on to expect one pilot to have to deal with everything during critical phases of flight like takeoff and landing." So...my bf replied..."Isn't there just like, a 'land' button?" ... Now, I know what you must be thinking: how embarrassing that there's just been a "land" button this WHOLE TIME! Don't feel too bad. I haven't found it yet either. P.S., in case you couldn't tell, my bf is not a pilot.

12:13 - I've dated a stripper lol. Waiting for the strippers outside is a bad idea. I used to pick her up all the time and saw just how seriously they took guys who waited outside the club to talk to the girls. They had security escort them to their rides and were always watching for creepers. Some guys try doing some pretty messed up stuff. Generally it's guys who think they should get more for what they spent. It really is a sketchy situation when you think about it.
