The guitar player wrote this about his relationship with the female singer standing next to him (Stevie Nicks) - they weren’t married so not about divorce but about the demise of their relationship. The whole album that this came off of is fantastic. The bass player and the female playing piano were married and also going through a demise in their relationship and a lot of great music came out of the whole thing. Still amazing that they could wrote songs about each other and such sensitive topics and sing them with each other night after night on the road.

The onstage interaction between Stevie and Lindsey during Silver Springs is more intense. She basically wrote a "You're an asshole for breaking up and you have to sing it every night with me" song. Plus, it's really a great song...arguably her best. I like it better than Landslide and I think Landslide is a great song.

@@MidwesternCornbilly Well, he broke up with her, so I don't really think he gives a hoot what she thinks of him. "Oh wow, you think I'm an ass for dropping you like a lead weight? How shocking." Half the time I think they're both up there hamming it up for the crowd. It could be considered half-schizo to still be playing that game all these years later in public.

Fleetwood Mac are a British/American rock band formed in London in 1967. Their album "Rumours" (1977) has sold over 40 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums in history. All the songs on it are great. "Don't Stop", "You Make Loving Fun". "Second Hand News", "Gold Dust Woman", "The Chain" etc. Other songs from other albums are "Over My Head", "Say You Love Me", "Rhiannon", "Landslide", "Tusk", "Think About Me", "Sara", "Hold Me", "Love In Store", "Gypsy", "Oh Diane" etc. Sadly Christine McVie passed away last year.

They didn't rise above it. Rumors was built on anger and spite. Christine has a song in there about sleeping with another man while still married to her husband. You Make Loving Fun. Think about that for a second. John had to play a song night after night about his wife cheating on him. Yeah. The two couples are all, "We rose above it", in interviews. Mick, the one that wasn't involved in the divorces, said it was a nightmare.

I can't think of a single bad song Fleetwood Mac recorded. The drummer is Mick Fleetwood who is a giant of a man, hence the large drumkit and the bassist is John McVie, hence the name Fleetwood Mac. The keyboardist is Christine McVie who married John. The female vocalist is Stevie Nicks who has one of the most glorious rock voices ever. The lead guitarist is Lindsey Buckingham, who has a most unusual guitar playing style but is an absolute virtuoso. He was in a relationship with Stevie and she joined the band with him (it was a deal breaker) when the previous lead guitarist, Peter Green, left owing to mental health problems. There was rarely a month went by without some kind of friction in the band but on stage you would never know it. They are, for me, one of top 10 bands of all time.

@jamesevanko7037 Yup. There's no beating the story and raw emotion of Silver Springs, and this particular concert puts it on display quite well. After that, there's such a deep rabbit hole to get into re: Fleetwood Mac and even Stevie Nicks performing her solo material. The Chain is pinnacle stuff (1982 had good performances), Angel during the 1979 tour is such a fun song, Sisters of the Moon is quite witchy, Rhiannon (Midnight Special 1976) is the peak of intense, on and on and on.... Bisscute could have a field day just with Fleetwood Mac (and Stevie Nicks's solo material) alone...

Biss! Fleetwood Mac!!! Yeahhhh! The "breakups" wre between the lead guitarist and blonde lead singer and the blonde keyboard, Christine and the bass player, John McVie (wearing the hat). Keyboardist and bass player were married and lead guitarist and blonde singer had been as couple for many many year. The dark-haired guitarist with the sick guitare licks is Lindsey Buckingham and the blonde singer, dressed all in black with the tambourine, is Stevie Nicks. They are both amazing musical artists in their own right have had and do have amazing solo careers in the own right. Stevie is what one may call an "ICON" if you will and remains very popular even today. With this specific line-up, they are and have been a very popular band since 1975 until around 1987 when they stopped making music all together. This performance from their come-back tour in 1997. As you can see, still very amazing live on stage, playing with passion and love for craft. The drummer, Mick Fleetwod, has been with them since the beginning when the band originally formed in 1967 I believe Yeah, at the time, I"m sure a painful and bitter experience as all breakups are and can be but yeah, by this time, it is just sweet and can tell they call love one another and vibe so well as a whole I could recommend so many songs for them Fleetwood Mac: **RHIANNON** **DREAMS** **DON'T STOP** and **GYPSY** For Stevie, I'd recommend **EDGE OF SEVENTEEN** **LEATHER AND LACE** **TALK TO ME** and **LANDSLIDE** .... You really can't go wrong with any of them! Love the reaction. Keep 'em coming! Cheers!!!

Biss, you are correct! It is a funny song rhythmically. Lindsay Buckingham said that he tried to show Mick Fleetwood how he wanted him to play it on the drums, but Mick played it his own way and that's the way it wound up. The chemistry between Lindsay and Stevie Nicks is undeniable, but they just finally realized they couldn't work things out. If you ask me, this will always be THE quintessential Fleetwood Mac song.

They were the soundtrack to my university days. And seeing her here brings a tear to my eye all over again. Having said that, this is my favourite song ever, I think - it has meaning for me. I don't think this was a particularly good recording - sounded a bit flat to me, maybe the mix was wrong. You really need to hear the studio version: Lyndsey's guitar, Mick Fleetwood's fantastic drumming. On the other hand, with the studio version you don't get to see the looks that Lyndsey and Stevie are giving each other . . . Do 'Isn't It Midnight' next, my favourite Christine song.

I think that by 1997, a lot of the pain had been worked out of the relationship between Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham, but when it was still fresh, in an official video from 1977 poor Stevie has tears in her eyes, having to back up her former love Lindsay on vocals. Bisscute, the interesting thing about the two divorces between Stevie Nicks (vocalist with the Tamborine) and Lyndsay Buckingham (guitarist and lead vocal in this song) and also between Christine McVee (keyboardist/vocals RIP) and John McVee (bass guitar), is that they all stayed good friends after the divorces and great bandmates till the end. Christine left the band for a while due to burnout of touring but eventually came back. Christine's passing was a very surprising and sad one to her fans, she had a voice of an angel. I suggest listening to her song Songbird, perhaps from this concert so you can see her in action, it'll warm your heart and make you cry at the same time.

Stevie Nicks & Linsay Buckingham joined band in 75. They were a couple, but never married. But most of the popular songs are about their break up. As is this song. Writen by Lindsey Buckingham to Stevie nicks there huge album, Rumors, 1977, were all songs about their break up, abd the divorce of christine and John Mccvie. Christine piano, keyboards, vocals. John bass guitar. Mick Fleetwood on drums. He had an affaire with Stevie as well. Christie had an affair with a band technician. She wrote a song about it too. You make loving fun. These people are wonderful song writers. Rumors is one of the best sellin albums of all time. So many songs to check out... The Chain, Dreams, gypsy, gold dust woman, landslide, silver springs, dont stop, big love, im so afaid, tusk, Rhiannon (live midnight special 1976). Do most of those songs live. You wont regret it. The show yoy just watched, The Dance is a great one to do it from. Silver springs, landslide, tusk for sure. Silver springs n Landslide will hit you....

The whole "Rumours" album is awesome given the background turmoil. The outcome was one of the best albums recorded. 👍 If you want a break in musicality I'd watch what is my favourite - "The Chain", which also has a lot of meaning behind it. Would listen to the studio version before watching a live though.

This song was released in 1977 on the Rumours album - and this performance was in 1997 from "The Dance" live tour - so 20 years to work through the pain. Lindsey (lead guitar) and Stevie (lead vocals) were in a relationship that broke up during the Romours album. Christine (keyboards) and John (base guitar) were married and got divorced. Mick (drums) was also married and ended up divorced shortly after.

  • @JohnHF1957

The song is not about Christine and John McVie's divorce (which Christine wrote "Don't Stop" about, then she wrote "You Make Loving Fun" about her affair with the band's lighting director) but written by Lindsey Buckingham about the break up of his relationship with Stevie Nicks (he also wrote "Second Hand News" about it). Nicks wrote "Dreams" about the break up The break up was very toxic by all accounts and you can see this in the way that Nicks and Buckingham look at each other during this performance. The band began in 1967, had some line up changes, Christine McVie joined in 1970 (after being in the band Chicken Shack, having one solo album and then leaving the music industry) and Nicks and Buckingham joined in late1974. Buckingham left the band just before a tour in 1987 after an argument, rejoined in 1997 and was fired in 2018 after another argument. Both Nicks and Christine McVie left the band and later rejoined. Fleetwood had a brief affair with Nicks. So, great music (both the original group and the mid 70s onwards version) and interesting band dynamics.

Guitar player Lindsey wrote this as a jab at Stevie (one with tambourine). They had lived together for yrs. For a while they were in Houston and I knew Stevie. I met Lindsey, he was always chasing business. When they disappeared I figured they got their slot in Nashville. BUT uh, they landed the job with FM. This was the #1 hit off Rumors. During the creation of it John(Bass) and Christine (keys) divorced. Mick the Drummer also went thru a divorce. Somehow they cranked out one of the biggest albums in history. This concert is a reunion in the mid 90s. They ended up staying together for many yrs since. Lindsey and Stevie's breakup was ugly and they fought in the studio and on stage. The concert video here is called "The Dance". It's worth a watching entirely.

I recall around this time F.M. were reunited after breaking up to pursue solo projects in the 80's, The joy they show at playing together again is evident in this show/video.

Alright! Looking forward to some Mac! You should also check out some solo Stevie Nicks, from after Fletwood Mac breaking up. She also has a couple good duets she's done with other artists. I don't think you've done any Tom Petty yet, but she did a good song with him called "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around". She also has one called "Leather And Lace" with Don Henley of The Eagles. Because they were such a great band with so many good songs, there's also a lot of good covers of their songs. A few years ago, on The Howard Stern Show there was a great cover of one of my favorite Fleetwood Mac songs "The Chain" by a group of female country artists, Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby, Maren Morris, and Amanda Shires, who had a supergroup called The Highwomen. Since you've been asking for some country lately, the name The Highwomen is kind of a comical tribute to The Highwaymen, which was a supergroup of legendary country artists, and some of my very favorites, of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson. They're all pretty amazing on their own, but they were all buddies, and at some point, one of them was doing a show, the others showed up some how, and it became a thing of them all playing together, so they decided to do some songs as a group, and over the years, they put out 3 albums as The Highwaymen. I actually first discovered them as a teenager when their third album came out, and some news show did an interview with them about how modern country radio stations don't play or care about older country anymore, and the interviewer asked them something like, what would you say if they told you that it was time to give it up, and Willie Nelson responded, "I wish I knew who "they" were, because I would've killed that son of a bitch a long time ago!", and I was sold instantly! There second album, Highwaymen 2, is actually a very favorite of mine. Some good songs to check out would be "The Highwayman", "Silver Stallion", "We're All In Your Corner", "American Remains", and "Anthem '84".

The classic and most famous ineup of the group had just reunited at this time in 1997. The relationship breakups happened 20 years earlier. Around 1977 the personal relationship between Lindsey Buckingham (singing) and Stevie Nicks (the one in the middle) had come to an end, and the keyboardist Christine McVie and the bass player John McVie were divorcing at the same time. Drummer Mick Fleetwood's marriage was also ending at the time.

There is so much to the music of Fleetwood Mac. So much history, the reason behind the song….the band members etc. just to share one tid bit you may not have known. The blond lady in the middle. Stevie Nicks…..she is one of the most famous female singers of all time…..not only was Fleetwood Mac a rock n roll hall of fame group and a top ten band of all time. Stevie Knicks is the only female singer in the rock n roll hall of fame in a group…..and as a individual performer. Yes….difficult feat to have an individual career as successful as what she was in a band. Unbelievable…actually.

During the making of the Rumors album in the 70s, there were two couples in the band that broke up at the same time. The bassist and the keyboardist were getting a divorce. Also the guitarist and female vocalist were breaking up a long relationship. That's why they are looking at each other so much during this song.
