Flatland Cavalry & TTU School of Music Outreach

Texas Tech University's Presidential Lecture & Performance Series program is hosting the 6th annual Lubbock Lights festival to continue to celebrate the musical heritage of the South Plains. The event will take place at 8 p.m. April 16, 2021 over a digital stream available at www.lubbocklights.ttu.edu & here on KZread at Texas Tech PLPS. Country-Americana band Flatland Cavalry will perform that evening. The event features discussions & performances and gives attendees an inside look at the creative processes and inspirations that go into this group's work. As all band members hail from the South Plains, the majority of the members are Texas Tech alumni and they started the band in Lubbock, there is a special connection to the community.
Through the Lubbock Lights outreach efforts, Flatland Cavalry's singer-songwriter Cleto Cordero visited Professor Amy Faris's Songwriting course MUTH 1300 within the Texas Tech University School of Music to discuss what it means to be a musician from this region, what each band's creative process looks like and what artists in the region inspired them the most. Lubbock Lights has hosted many of these specific artists in previous years, making Flatland Cavalry a perfect continuation of this festival.
The outreach discussion was created via Zoom March 15th, 2021; recorded at the Amusement Park Studios in Lubbock, TX.
