I was always anti, and then I tried out the Oysi frame. Haven't looked back since then. Recently went back to anti for a session and it just felt horrible. With the Oysi I started with the 72/60 setup, but have since changed to a 68/55 setup. The inner wheels are a flat profile, and the outer are round. When rolling straight, its a flat setup, however when turning it becomes slightly rockered. Means that I get super responsive turning, and no wheel bite at all on the grind, while maintaining a nice smooth ride. The smaller wheels also do make it a little easier when it comes to things like top sides and royales (basically stuff i suck at). Would recommend.

I don't usually comment on videos, but dude, this was SUPER helpful. Thank you so much. I love that you gave the pros and cons for both without showing a bias. A lot of videos that I have seen when doing research have not had a true breakdown because you can tell which one they prefer even if they are not trying to show it. Thanks again!

I'm stuck between usd aeon or rb new jack

I broke my back a couple of years ago and just got back to re-learn how to skate... My frame had anti-rockers on it, but I'm changing it to flat now! Mostly because I am having to learn a lot of mobility for my left leg from scratch...

Back to Blading Yeah man, small world - smaller industry. I’m JUST getting back into blading, literally just ordered my blades from Roller Warehouse. I’ve stumbled upon the Mushroom Blading guys and their podcast in recent months. They did an episode with Jason a few years back where he lays out his comeback and his goals within the industry moving forward. Great video. What I really like about the 50/50 frames w/ juice blocks, compared to anti rocker is that the juice blocks are more stable when stalling or standing on coping and transitions like volcanoes. I have gotten onto my anti rockers before and had them roll out when I wasnt expecting and caused falls. The juice blocks are much more stable and won't "roll out" unexpectedly.

Interesting. I haven't skated anti rocker much, just a few sessions before getting back on juice blocks. I also prefer the lightness and the smooth grind, no gap between the block and the wheels. But I'm biased.

Ahhh, yes age old question. You pretty much summed it up as I would. But I would like to add for those getting just back into it for aggressive, start flat. Although anti is great, once you can negotiate rough terrain and tighter turns you can start to ask yourself the question. I started flat and slowly started to dislike the weight and the smaller space. Truthfully the issue is with my own skill and comfort levels but this is something everyone should ask and test out for themselves. It may take awhile to figure out your preference (took me half a year) but once you do, you’ll definitely thank yourself many times over.

Agreed 100%! Flat is the way to go for most people, though I think with less small wheels out there it's more difficult. Not everyone has the skill to skate Oysi or Mega.

Hey man great vids! So I want to change my stock Roces M12s to a flat setup...sooo do I just buy bigger wheels for the two anti rocker ones or do I have to buy a whole new frame? Would love and appreciate a reply! x)

i gotta say this video is something everyone wanting aggressive skates should watch, i went anti rocker straight off the bat and swapped to flat as soon as i could afford new wheels, for me skating flat is a much more enjoyable experience.

I love to skate flat, but when I'm at a ledge for the day the feeling of Juice Blocks is great.

About to buy my first set of blades and this was super helpful, but what did you mean about the flat setup having points of contact between two wheels? Wouldn’t it still be all four points of contact? do they lift off the ground a tiny bit when you transition your weight and the wheels mush? Thanks!

I like anti for skateparks with mostly ledges/ rectangle rails larger than h-block, and quarter pipes with terrible coping. Flat for skateparks with mostly bowls and transitions with great coping, square rails smaller than h-block, and round rails and such. :)

I just went back to anti tonight. For me my verdict is I'd like to skate flat for cruising but anti for aggro. I have Oysi frames and they're amazing but my experience is that you need to have a minimum skill level in order to avoid your vocabulary being negatively impacted by the taller and longer frame in that specific situation. That skill level is really subjective. For me, it's beyond my capabilities, for a lot of other people it's not.a big difference.

Shit, there is no Oysi in my city. I'm not ready to order expencive frame before trying )) From "classic" frames like kizer/groundcontrol i frefer only anti for aggro (now flt2) and flat 4x80 for cruising on similar aggro boots.

Something that gets overlooked when talking about Antirocker for airs and transitions is that lack of turning ability also translates into stability on take off and landings. I keep trying to fit flat into my skating but unless I'm doing general rec/urban I hate the twitchy feeling. Locking on to the train tracks make landings much more predictable & stable when doing spins, flips or airs. After fighting with 72mm flat I decided 72mm Kaltik freestyle might be my solution and if it takes it's my only frame option.

ROFL i think those were my first skates too, or my brothers before i got into aggressive. AND we used to shop at play it again ALL the time. We did a lot of roller hockey and ice hockey too so they were great for equipment.

Kizer Slimline is pretty similar geometry to the USD Aeon frame, but I still get wheel bite on square coping and ledges cuz I don't get low enough a lot of the time. I am giving Jonathan Craig's tri-rocker method a shot this weekend to see if it is a good compromise with an antirocker on just the second wheel and flat on 1,3 and 4.

I think the slimlines might be similar, but very different. The wheelbite and huge split are very different. Trirocker might help, but I've never been a big fan. Lemme know what you think of it!

I found that as a beginner, skating flat even with the Aeons was scary. I was so scared to try anything because I kept getting stuck and ending up hurting myself. Swapping to anti rocker took a couple of days to get used to the feeling but let me try grinds without being scared. I have the shifts now so I swap to a flat 80mm setup for general skating and keep on the 59mm anti rocker/freestyle setup for aggressive. Makes my skating a lot safer but it does feel like you are skating on train tracks a bit. Getting new wheels and bearings for a flat setup is also a lot of money all at once!

I agree with that. Grinds are much harder for flat even on Aeon or Oysi frames. If you’re just learning to skate though, not just aggressive, I think flat is a more enjoyable experience.

I wanted to try out those aeons just for the frames to see how flat was after skating anti rocker for a bit, but i didn't want to shell out the extra money for a non ufs boot. I ended up getting some kaltik flat stealth frames and they have everything that i can do easier and makes everything feel more stable. With how those frames are designed I almost never get any wheel bite.

What frames are you skating? There are frames that are good for flat, and some that will be unforgiving with wheel bite. Of course I'm biased and love the 50/50, but I think some K2 or Mega would be great options for you as well.

Yep! Those are UFS so you can swap the frames. I’d stick with 80mm or smaller though.

50/50 juice blocks make your h block last sooo much longer compared to anti rockers. i have 2 pairs from 2013 and theyre still grinding perfectly👌

I always forget!

In all these videos about anti-rocker is that eventually you won't notice the lack of ability to carve because you adjust. You will feel at 1st you lose mobility but in a couple days you won't notice the difference again & if you go back to flat it will feel like your all over the place.. this video & all your videos are amazing, was just adding. Thanks again for all your work.

I have Aeon 60s. Would it be pointless to look for an anti rocker skate?

Aeon 60 aren’t a lot of fun antirocker in my experience. Look for some Sway or SL, good options

When you do a soul grind, you’re angled on your frame. So the bumps don’t really touch. They’re really great on rails though when you lock on, and for topside tricks.

I'd call it freestyle if you have blocks and antirocker if you have wheels...
