Good video, and I purchased one for my collection based on your great demonstration! As you said though, this is a one trick pony. From my first couple burns though, I realized an issue with longer sticks falling out of the feed port. I modified mine by attaching a "U" shaped metal feed port, about 8 inches long, that allows me to direct and support the longer sticks for easier feeding. Not necessary, but very helpful. I wish I had a way to show you a picture on how it looks. Using here around the house it works good. Even during the Winter here in Ohio I like to cook outside at least once a week. If I were to pack the the stove and take away, I wouldn't pack the extended feed port--too bulky. Anyway, I have used the flat pack stove maybe 20 times now cooking soups, stews, steaming vegetables, fry pan, etc. It's my go to stove for for strictly cooking! I have used the stove non-stop as long as 4 hours. Only minor warping as you noted. Still performs great. I am sure the original Rocket King is probably a stronger and more durable stove, but for the money this is great! Thanks again and keep the reviews coming!

I got one as well, man this thing works.

I once cooked a big heavy pot of chicken soup for more than an hour on this stove. It worked very well and was very efficient.

The cost for the Rocket King to Canada is insane compared to the cost in the US. The cost for the knock off is ridiculously low, and it has the cross bars. The forest is colorful & bright. What a nice day to do a video!!!

I got this thing, and I'll just say it boils water in no time, it works like a charm, doesn't use too much fuel and makes little smoke. It wraps, but nothing crazy and it's slightly heavy if you're worried about weight. But damn it works, those steel plates really work, this thing spits very strong heat up the chimney, I'm looking on getting one of those Butsir mini radiators to put on top of the flame and take advantage of all that massive heat this thing spits out the top. It also can burn fairly big timber bits, and it absolutely disintegrates all the wood you put in there, you're left with just white ash. I'm very very pleased with this purchase. Hello Mark! I also got this stove and i made some modifications i drilled some holes for tentpegs to hold a trangia stove. Works really well and i love this stove because of it's packsize. Its in the back of my Daypack and it's works quite qell for more than a half yeat right now. Thanks for your Review!

@@MarkYoungBushcraft the combution on this Design is very good and there is almost no coals left. It depends on the type of wood that you are using. But the 4 small holes for the tenpegs are almost ineffectual they are only 6mm in diameter

I always worry about a bear coming up from behind you when I watch your videos! Lol

He is making enough noise by talking that any bear within 500 meters or yards that can hear him would be running away in fear. Bears aren’t inquisitive like you think unless they are starving to death. They would rather find the next ripest berry patch to chow down in. Even Grizzly Bears are usually only carnivores when the fishing is abundant. There are only black bears where he is located!!

LOL...I have had a few bear encounters. Not in this area although they are around. I have also had curious coyotes come fairly close. I am not concerned about either and actually enjoy the sightings. I think sometimes they come to the smell of my coffee😅. Thanks for commenting

Thanks for this in depth video. I just ordered one of these after seeing it check the boxes I was looking for. Found you video after. Glad to see it does just what I'd hoped. Most portable wood stoves are simply too small and unstable for a larger, say 1600ml pot. I got mine on Amazon for ~$25. Should be here in 2 days.

Expedite a quick cooling even while loaded with embers, I would start to disassemble without waiting for it to burn out first. Provided you are using it in a fire safe area. I use a stick to remove the two cross pieces up top, remove the ember plate at the bottom, turn the stove on it's side and tap the plates from the bottom to take apart. Move all the plates to a fresh cool area and it will cool in 5 to 10 minutes!

i've just bought a stove very much like this, but the smaller version, from a uk company called SF Innovations.... for only £20 inc p&p. i've also got some carbon felt coming from amazon, for insulating the chimney, as per your recommendation.

It's interesting to see a rocket stove that can simmer, but if it can't at least double as an alcohol stove stand/wind break, then I don't see much use for them. Unless you really need intense heat. As for the Chinese thing, we need to get you a lot more subscribers somehow, so you can get some more revenue, and don't need to keep shopping of that Chinese site. I hate that stuff, but it's just not a Saturday morning anymore if I don't see your videos. You're one of those friendly faces I look forward to watching each week. Even if I don't care too much about the topic. Have a good "long" weekend Mark!

Col Rodrick Yeah, for sure. Just a couple kebab skewers from the dollar store, and a couple dry small holes. I'm good with my firebox, and I'll be picking up a pack stove this spring, so I'm good, but I'll always keep an eye out for something better. But in the end, it's what suits each person best. This one just doesn't suit me. Doesn't mean the design isn't good for other people.

Mark Young Well I have, and love the firebox, as you know, but I would like to find something a little smaller and lighter for day trips, or solo overnights, because it's bigger and heavier than I need for those trips. The Pack Stove seems to fit all the requirements of cost, size, durability. Plus it's made in N America and is a smaller start up sort of thing, which focuses on customer service, which I love to support. It's also good for wood, and alcohol, which is a must. The only thing I dislike about it is that it doesn't fold flat, but since my usual pot should just fit inside it, that's not a big deal. I prefer that over a puzzle stove, because I don't like to mess with cold hands, or trying to figure it out in the dark, or even dropping a piece, but that's not a huge deal breaker compared to the rest of the things I'm looking for.

@@jimf1964 You can't go wrong with the Pack Stove for sure. I just received and starting testing Mac's XL and it look amazing. I also have a new, smaller stove from FlexFire in Germany that I am really liking but it is a "puzzle" design. Sounds like the Pack Stove is your best fit though

LOL...when it comes to twig stoves, I have figured out that you have to pick your battles; I take a lighter stove on a long trip, and something as heavy as this rocket stove on a day trip and overnighter. I have this stove, and I have had dangerously hot fires in it, and got the same minor warping you achieved. I am very fond of rocket stoves (billions of people cook on rocket stoves, specifically -- or an applied derivation of one, as a matter of choice worldwide, outside of the US and Canada). Rocket stoves are, as far as I know, the only portable twig stove one can have that allows for direct regulation of the cooking heat by manipulating the type, amount, and girth of the wood sticks one slides in as the cooking progresses. I watch videos from Africa and South America, and this method is routinely used to cook many, many, delicious meals in the bush. I have copied this method, and by golly -- it works! :) Thanks for the vid, and please keep the stove videos coming!

Looking for the one-stove-does-all is as elusive as single cutting tool for all uses. I am very intrigued by rocket stoves, more so than wood-gas stoves. I am looking at a few of the bigger ones for stationary use. I may make one just to give a try. Lots of stoves videos to come. Thanks for copmmenting

Glad you liked the video. I have pre-loaded the stove with sticks and lit it from the top. Works great like that. Very hot, intense flame. I have not made a traditional four-segment Swedish torch in it yet. Thanks for commenting

Does it warp? If not currently do you think it would after time?

As mentioned in the video, warping has been minor so far with a lot of hot fires. I can say all metal will warp over time. I don't foresee this stove being worse than others and will be easy to bend back into shape. Thanks for commenting

Interesting gadget stove Mark, I saw it few years ago and thinking that it is far to small. I Like the idea of using the inexpensive fire starters from dollarama bu while watching your video an idea pop to my mind, could it be use use with some wood pellets🤔 It might worth a try don't you think? Other wise I like your thoughts about this little thing👍👍👍

I would backpack that in a HEARTBEAT over my custom plasma cut flat pack rocket king clone...mine is solid steel and is a THICK gauge, you think a pound and a few ounces is heavy? Pick MINE up. It's every bit of 5 pounds, maybe 6. Same size as that roughly....10 inches tall. It's a heavy sucker, but it will outlive me and the next three owners.

@@MarkYoungBushcraft That's just a normal small camp stove, a rocket stove has to have two chambers the fuel is burnt in one and the gases from the fuel ignite in the other because the temperature is hot enough in the second chamber to ignite the gases.
