FLAT OUT and getting away with it @ Silverstone GP. Clio RS 172 races Toyota Celica

Footage from a cold, wet and super slippery trackday in January 2020 at Silverstone GP in the Clio 172 and StringTheoryGarage's Celica.
We were never quite sure how much fun we'd have on the big, flat, open tarmac of the Silverstone Grand Prix track in sub 200bhp cars, but it turns out that as long as you have a friend in a car that's the same pace then you can basically have one massive race. It was HUGE fun, especially with such little grip leading to some tasty sideways moments that we were surprised we got away with!
Car specs:
Celica T-Sport VVTL-I 190
Exhaust - Remus and decat
Engine - Se7en Motorsport cams, K&N filter
Suspension - BC Coilovers, geo setup with some toe out at rear
Brakes - Project Mu pads, Avensis master cylinder, uprated fluid
Tyres - AD08R 225/40/18
Exterior - Professionally fitted motorsport splitter (definitely not some wood screwed to the bumper)
Clio RS 172
Intake - Ramair induction kit
Exhaust - decat, custom stainless catback
Front suspension - BC DS coilovers with 3.5 degrees negative camber (adjustable top mounts, camber bolts)
Rear suspension - BC DS 'coilovers', rear axle shim plates (slight rear toe-out)
Front Brakes - Ferodo DS3000 pads, Brembo HC plain disks, braided brake lines
Rear Brakes - Pagid pro race pads, Brembo HC plain disks, braided brake lines
Front Tyres - Dunlop Direzza dz03g 195/50/15
Rear Tyres - Continental PremiumContact 195/50/15
Interior - rear cage, perspex front windows, fully stripped

It's the Lotus engine. I'm curious about what mods it has because the Celica is a car you don't commonly see on the track. Edit: He put the mods in the description. Basic stuff except for the cam upgrade ,I'm curious about the ECU tuning done to the car. Pretty cool that he swapped in the master Cylinder from a Toyota Avensis.

i was strongly considering buying a 2zz, on paper 190 vs 200hp for a k20 doesn't seem too bad but in reality they're different leagues. iirc celica has about 160 wheel horsepower and an ep3 with common mods has 210 wheel horsepower and more torque. The 2zz isn't that tuneable but it still sounds awesome and i'm jealous of the guy getting the celica for £750

Matt Dyson They’re the 999s, literally leagues ahead of DS3000, they’re a proper race pad and even with the celicas CD sized brakes didn’t show a hint of fade all day even with pushing into abs half the time. Next time out the Clio will have DS1.11 so that will be an interesting comparison!

Bimarco Cobra2 seats which, considering they're at the budget end, are pretty good. The camera in this video was mounted to the right hand shoulder of the passenger seat using a clamp mount but without the weight of anyone in the seat it vibrated a little, hence the annoying camera shake in the vid.

@@CamberandCombustion thanks, I assume the passenger isnt a recaro in that case. My 200 has the recaros currently, bucket has to happen but still have the camera issue. The vibration isnt as bad in your vid as I'd read about online. Keep em coming

@@Itsallfun3000 Passenger seat is a Bimarco too. In our old 197 with a standard non-Recaro passenger seat, we use small ratchet straps attached to the rear floor to pre-load the seat to stop it vibrating. Worked great.
