I am 41 and flat footed and use narrow shoes and orthotics and feel like crap. I just switched to wide. Will strengthen them. How have I never heard any of this. I am flat footed and even family joked I would be unathletic even though I was the fasted guy in my highschool, and 3 fasted guy in my entire region (1st in 400). But now I have plantar fasciitis, back pain (prob mostly from BJJ), and jumpers knee.

What are your thoughts on crocs for flat feet? I’ve heard very mixed opinions but they have a wide toe box so I’m unsure..

I wouldn’t use them as a daily driver. I look at crocs like shoes for recovery, to give your foot a bit of a rest, especially the newer versions.

What’s interesting is these players all had incredible performance despite being in non barefoot shoes… however their feet must be jacked up from years of this…so perhaps health ≠ performance or maybe they had genetic foot/ankle strength that allowed them to offset this. Thoughts?

An aspect to think about is elite athletes can perform despite having certain issues. The best athletes are the BEST compensators. It's not the greatest idea to compare the most elite to the general population. Gen Pop is generally sedentary, doesn't move, jump, run, or sprint nearly as much. Weaknesses in the general population (especially the feet) are magnified because they do MUCH less movement than field and track athletes. So barefoot shoes and strengthening the feet would be amazing for the general population.

Not if you take care of the feet, and work them so they function well. Placing them in tight shoes and living a sedentary lifestyle will have them lose their resilience

@@krazyrapidbooots5867 Pronation results in the ankle rolling inward like you describe, but "over" pronation is very common even amongst top athletes, such as the very best marathon runners.
