Flashpoint: Discussing development of Downtown Detroit and the inclusivity of these plans
This past week, the Detroit Regional Chamber hosted a one-day Detroit policy conference. Among a long list of topics up for discussion was an old one that has new life and new relevance. Are we building a downtown that is as inclusive as it can be?

I can't wait till the former train station and Gordie Howe bridge is complete. That bridge had taken FOREVER and the freeway has been a pain to navigate due to it. The area around the train station is going to POP big time when it opens.
Affordable housing should be inclusive, but it has to satisfy the majority of the residents, which means the people buying into the neighborhood get to choose the number of low income units, and where they can be located, that is the reality of things. Hard working residents don’t want low income, section-8 housing included in the neighborhoods, it is what it is, it drags the neighborhoods down. Section-8 homes need to be built in neighborhoods outside central Detroit, outside Grand Blvd. People get offended, but you have to think about the negative elements and problems that come along with that type of housing, which is drama and chaos
They should put giant LED screens up on the buildings in Campus Martias kind of like Times Square. And they should put a giant observation wheel on the riverfront with shops and stuff 🤙
Hello Detroit!
There does need to be some low income housing in downtown/midtown. But the city needs to keep certain requirements on these low income places.... All can live together if they are on the same page....
Antoine Bryant said nothing. Affordable housing is only possible if the residents have a living wage. Functional illiteracy is Detroit's primary weakness. Many people cannot afford a car, let alone an $800 - $1000 a month one bedroom apartment. Invest in adult education. Only way to break the cycle.

@@detroitcityman6622 Wow! Running an economy with Carpetbaggers. The economy isn't going to survive without the Black dollar. The city's population is still close to 80% Black. Just 'cause you live in the hood don't make you broke.

Did you like the part about them having their third meeting with the community? Is that one meeting every 2 years?

@@RCMPoui Yeah. Really high profile communication with the people. Not.
I mean, is there a low income in that area, though? Only in Detroit lol
That first segment was shockingly bad. I hope Detroit will get serious one day.

@yourmother8527 OK, miss you are one of those pro detroiter. Let's keep the city poor, I guess I mean Detroit needs a new tax base ....that area in the district is prime land and should be used as such. .....affordable housing shouldn't be in that area. Hell no, maybe dexter linwood or some other parts. Yes, that's fine. I'm not against it, but not downtown in your showcase area .....Come on now, detroit has enough of 800 dollar a month rentals, and guess who lives in them shaniqua and ray ray ....you are supposed to be getting people to move in not the other way around hell those district homes will be torn up and ruined quickly....I mean it is what it is ...hell here in downtown Chicago so called affordable housing starts at maybe $1,200 which isn't much ....but damn a bozo though? 🤣
