Flashing Red Light problem - DENON AVR-1609

The receiver shuts off after a few seconds. Not sure where the problem is.

    A continue blinking LED, often means that a DC voltage is detected at the output terminals, so the safety of the amp prevents that this DC voltage is applied to your speakers. If power transistors have been damaged, usually fuses will be blown. If no fuse is blown, the reason of this DC can have a lot of causes, such as bad Elko’s (I don't mean the power supply Elko’s in this case), bad diodes, resistors or transistors. Without a service manual it is very difficult to find the cause. Sometimes bad contacts are the cause. E.g. everything which is mounted on a cooling plate can press his connections through the solder because of the expansion coefficient. Modern amplifiers often have microprocessors in their start-up circuit. If something is defect with these components, you must replace the whole PCB, because without special equipment it is impossible to replace microprocessors.

    check power transistors and then check the capacitors in the power supply...if one is broken the system shuts down automatically to protect circuits because it detects some short circuit or overheat.

    Denon 3808 no sound or volume from digital sources. Thus; no on screen menu. Bad hdmi board? Took surge through hdmi cable during recent Texas storm. Any suggestions or diagnostic advice. Network/internet working good as well as front display panel. Tried factory reset and display flashes; so it appears microprocessor good too.

    Hello, i have a similar problem, it shuts down automatically. But mine has a twist, it shuts down when my volume goes up above 50. Then i smell burnt plastic/rubber in my room. I check my unit and noticed a yellow cover part has orange bubbles. I tried using it again this time putting my room temperature to a colder setting and so far it didnt shut down and no burnt smell. Im just adraid that if i use my unit without having it checked i might add damage to it. Mine is DENON AVR-S720W. Please help me too.

    I have the Denon AVR 1908 when the volume gets to around 13 or so it shuts off the entire unit. And not only that it does not seem to be as loud as it has been in the past also after it shuts off, the power light begins to flash red. In order to turn it back on I just have to push the power button twice and it will come back on.

    More Common Problem In Denon Receiver Avr Causing it to go into DC Protection mode is Wrong Bias on Output Stage transistors . Or Shorted output transistors. open Biasing resistors or Output resistors or faulty pre amplifier stage transistors. Some times protection Circuit fault detection transistor can be faulty but is rare problem. isolate eliminate speaker or wire shorts first before popping the case of AVR if its ASO protection . Thermal protection can be caused by using less than 6 ohm speaker at loud volumes and running amp Hot. Adjust bias after replacing power transistor 8mv +- 0.5mv. adjustment by turning preset on each channel.

    Check your audio output transistors for shorts, "collector to emitter" Next! check the positive regulator for 15 volts output, same with the negative 15 volts.

    It is power transistors on channel outputs, looks like you have a short there or at least one of them, that is why power protection module/circuit is switches of the amp. Take DVM and measure each power transistors legs, when found unsolder it ( they are connected to big heat sink you cant miss them - also for the info i think is 1 transitory per channel and they are work in pairs), power back the amp and check (quite common issue on Denon's I have repaired ) let me know

    Break out your Fluke meter get a schematic of the unit let's start checking voltages are all the voltages are correct then going to your main audio output app section and check out final output transistors make sure that those are not shorted out because that can cause you to go into protection like it's going into cuz that's basically what's happening to it I ain't going right into the red light of death which automatically usually means that there's a short somewhere nine times out of 10 it's usually in the final output have the app section but it could also be in the power supply so that's why you have to check to make sure that you have the right voltage is coming out of your power supply so you have to start there first and make sure you have the right voltage is going to where you need to be going to check out the regulated supplies coming from your power supply and make sure what you need your schematic and you can get them very easily through Google and quite a few of the forums you can get them and a lot of times you can get schematics from the company themselves you can probably get them online sometimes they charge you sometimes they don't depend on how old the universe is but you should be able to check give me a listing of all the judges coming out of your power supply and you just check it be grounded to the e-ticket black lady grounded to this power supply and you go in there and you check how many cables see what the outputs are if your output you're not with a supposed to be by more than 2% then you have a problem and you have to find out if there's a transistor a regulator that is faulty you follow it back you test that transition around and you just replace it could also be a burnt-out resistor you just have to follow it down the line it's time-consuming and sometimes tedious so I suggested you put on some music that you like to listen to put on a set of headphones and made me a some sort of music devices July to listen to and just sit there listening to music and tracing the lines now cuz it could take you a couple of hours to do it but don't give up it's better than throwing it out and spending for $500 for no one or having somebody telling you they going to charge you $300 to rebuild it when they already know nine times out of 10 what the problem is because they fixed it before and it's only going to be about 15 to $20 in parts and I know exactly where the problem is so they can go Zoom right in and fix the part and they've only taken 25-30 minutes do the job and they're charging you $223 to do the job so take your time sit back relax use the meter the proper way to slowly Trace everything out I used to do it as a job I do it as a hobby now I just do vintage equipment I love to repair vintage old stuff old cassette decks old receivers especially tube I love to bring the old stuff back to life it's a lot of fun I also make quite a bit of money out of that because I buy the stuff at garage sales I get it I got people that call me up that tell me they have a lot of old stereo equipment that's not working they want to get rid of it they sell it to me real cheap so I sit relax and I take it apart that's a good hobby and it's a hobby that pays for itself

    I am almost 100% sure @watcher3223 is correct, I my receiver (AVR-789) just stopped powering on yesterday (right before I was going to watch a movie with some friends) I have taken my receiver apart and tested the voltage output of the +15v and -15v and the +15 rail was at +5.67v while the -15v rail was at -14.96v (which is fine) but at the suggestion of @Watcher3223 I am going to replace both voltage regulators. I will let you guys know when I get them replaced if it has fixed my problem.

  • @toolzgalore2

    @toolzgalore2

    Nevermind I figured it out, the replacement -15 voltage regulator I bought was not isolated and the input is also the case. So if you read below you will see that when I swapped the +15v regulator out that fixed my issue. Ok, replaced those two voltage regulators and I thought I received a bad one at first then powered the receiver on not having the regulator attached to the heat sync and it powered on. I checked voltage on the heatsink itself and it appears the heatsink has -22 volts on it when the receiver is powered on. Not quite sure why it does, but it does and that is (on top of the regulator needing to be replaced) why mine is currently not working. Any suggestions as to why I have -22 volts on the heatsink would be awesome!

    I know how to fix it, hold the speaker buttons down at the same time and press the power button, it resets it, it fixed mine.

    Guys! You must press the hard-power switch and the other buttoms together! NOT (!) the soft-Power-Buttom. OK?

    I have the Denon AVR 1908 when the volume gets to around 13 or so it shuts off the entire unit. And not only that it does not seem to be as loud as it has been in the past also after it shuts off, the power light begins to flash red. In order to turn it back on I just have to push the power button twice and it will come back on.
