The transition from 1982 to 1986, was absolutely incredible. What a great time to be alive, and witness it all, first hand.

Hell yah.... at times it seems like it just happened yesterday, other times it seems so very long ago. Definitely one of the best times of my life. So much of what we take for granted today was created in that time period. But so much is gone forever... makes me sad that the positive vibe and optimism is long dead and gone.

Yes, Mr. Reagan sure did a lot to help out great nation. My home town went from absolute poverty for well over half of the residents to actually having a small but present "middle class". These days old Ron would be called an "insurrectionist".

Born in '74 i can only speak from a kid's perspective.. it was GREAT. Life wasn't yet sucked out of life... i mean it wasn't yet all in function of productivity, functionality, economics, competition, motivation, expansion, money, greed. Life just went its merry way. It's like we ended up in some horrifying, alternate reality the movie Mad Max tried to warn us for.
The world will never be this good again

1984 was an amazing year in music and movies. Thankful to have been a kid that year. I had Thriller recorded on a betamax VCR and all the kids in my class would walk to my house after school to watch it. The best part was we didn't even know how good we had it, it didn't matter. Thanks, I was 13 and 14 in 1984 What a great time
Was 15 years old back in 1984. Good old days wish i had a time machine go back to the 1980s
Growing up in the 60s, these vids bring me back to a different world, a much better world. I don’t know if I feel more sympathy for my dwindling mortality or for young people who will never experience normalcy.
In 84, I was 19 and clueless, moved down to Florida from New York, best move I ever made, young and broke, Miami Vice, high as balls on a Friday night was my escape!, best show EVER!
I graduated in 1984 the '80s were the best times of my life and I would give anything to go back for a while just to go to the game rooms and ride around the square with my friends with no cell phones and no computers
Star Trek III: The Search For Spock, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Revenge of the Nerds also hit movie theatres in that summer of 1984.
1984 was the best year in human history! So many incredible things that year and if you had to pick one year with the greatest concentration of excellent music, you would have to pick 1984. Prince, Madonna, Van Halen, Michael Jackson, etc. The 84 Olympics when it seemed like we won every single event. And my Tigers won the World Series. Miami Vice. MTV. Such a magical year for an 11 year old at the time. Feel bad for anyone that didn’t experience it.
My junior and senior years of high school, what a time for great music! Also Tina Turner's Private Dancer and Sade's Diamond Life. Purple Rain is indeed one of the best albums. Class of 85.

Recollection Road your tapes are great and love seeing them when they pop up in my notifications. I just wish I could watch them sooner but alas...I'm at work. Gotta keep paying those taxes for those who choose not to work and keep voting democrat to bleed all us hard workers dry so they can be welfare queens with 7 kids and 6 fathers. I'm Belgian and during those times the U.S had a HUGE impact on us children. Because of the many tv programs such as Dallas, Taxi, Different Strokes, S. & Hutch, Wonder Woman, The Hulk, Mathew Star, Night Rider, Street Hawk and much more.. We played baseball like Americans, BMX bikes became a hype on the count of the E.T movie. I could go on and on. We had subtitles, nothing dubbed so by the time we were 12 we started mimicking Americans... "fuck you"... "asshole"... lol. Cool times. The U.S enjoyed a hell of a lot of popularity here.

I was 15 for most of 1984 and it was GREAT!! I would say 84/85 were the definitive years of the decade for me and SO much great music came out in those two years along with movies. Basically nothing will ever compare to this decade where I was 10 when it started and 20 by the time it ended. I literally grew up in the 80's and wouldn't have it any other way.
The year I graduated from college. And what a decade of music!
Saw the Van Halen 1984 tour in St Louis during the summer. Was a great show. The year, as stated, did define much of the decade for me. Great experiences and great memories.
I was born in 1957, I was 27 years old and living on my own in Detroit, Michigan. I was working 💪a Full Time job at Montgomery Wards in the Men's Sports Wear Department. I grew up in the late 70’s and 80’s graduating in 1984. I remembered all of this as if was yesterday. I remember well the Apple ad as we did not really understand it and look at what it is today. It was NOTHING. Like it is today, we did not even have saftey seals on products then and we truley did not have the hate, distress or violence like today. Yes we had our problems but it was minimal at its time. We were much more social because we had to have patience and waited for everything because we did not have the technology we have today and we actually experienced the technology boom in the late 80’s. We also had the best TV shows that are all but gone now and will never make a come back. Yes sir ! We were very lucky to have lived the last of the best decades in America.

We had it so good and didn’t even know it. Racism was mostly behind us and we all thought it would only get better. Went about our lives - starting jobs and families and doing hat we thought was right. But somewhere along the way, while we were doing out thing, some people found the path to power was through division. When I looked up I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Manufactured hate. I hardly recognize this place anymore. And it’s all lies. But We will endure…

In fact, all five of the songs that would be nominated for the Best Original Song category for the 57th Academy Awards were actually #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts during 1984 in order, chronologically (Kenny Loggins - Footloose; Phil Collins - Against All Odds; Deniece Williams - Let's Hear it For the Boy; Ray Parker, Jr. - Ghostbusters; Stevie Wonder - I Just Called to Say I Love You). That has never been done before, or since.

1984 was magical! A Cancel-Culture-Free World!
I was a 13 year old Headbanger!🔥🎸
Hell yeah! I was born on June 17th of 1984 the best beginning of my life!
I was young, but I remember it all from ma older siblings playing it on da stereo & VCR!
I was a senior in high school the first half of the year, graduated on June 6th. Joinied the Navy, and found my self on November 11th, in boot camp in Orlando Florida. My dad took me to see all of the movies that were mentioned. There were numerous other great rock and roll albums released that year as well. I remember watching the Wendy's commercial when it first aired. It was also the last great year for really great rock and roll. For the next six years, with the exception of four or five bands, rock and roll music went into intensive care, on life support. But later, grunge and alternative rock instigated a great Resurrection..
The highlight of 1984 for me was watching my hometown Detroit Tigers jump out to a 35-5 start and cruise to the World Series Championship. The majority of the players were in their prime and we thought it was the beginning of a dynasty. Fast forward 37 years and the Tiger faithful are still waiting for another Series win. But 84 was special for us. It was the summer of The Wave at the ballpark, Ernie Harwell on the radio, and two-dollar seats in the bleachers. Bless you Boys and Bless you Tiger Stadium. Here's to old days and good times remembered.

@@charlesbaldo I was fortunate enough to be at Comerica when the team finally retired Sparky's number. It was long overdue and unfortunately Mike Illitch waited until Sparky had passed away before retiring it. Illitch could hold a grudge and he had a lot of run-in's with Sparky over the years, the biggest one coming when Sparky wouldn't manage the scabs the owners put out there to try and break the strike in 1995. To my knowledge, he was the only manager to refuse to work with replacement players and he was suspended for taking that stand. Anyway, it was really petty of Illitch to wait until Sparky was gone to retire his number and the fans there that day let him know we were not pleased by the delay. But it was a great day nonetheless. A lot of the players from the club were there that day. Gibby, Jack, Tram, Petry, Rosema. That shot of him signaling "swing away" to Gibby in Game 5 against Goose Gossage after yelling, "He don't wanna walk you," is one of the most iconic moments in Tiger history. I loved what he said about Detroit fans; "If you win even once for them they will love you for life." RIP George, Tiger fans still luv ya.

@@itinerantpatriot1196 Sparky was a players coach. His players played hard because they loved him.
