Flashback Friday - Does Depression Cause Permanent Brain Damage?

In this video, author and mental health educator Douglas Bloch talks about the fear that many people have that going through a depressive episode permanently impairs their cognitive function. Douglas uses his own experience and the experience of others to reassure viewers that when they emerge from their episode that they are able to experience full restoration of their cognitive abilities. In other words, depression does not cause permanent brain damage. The brain can and will re-regulate itself.

I ruminate almost the entire time that I'm awake. Whether I am driving in my car, cutting the grass, watching TV, or almost anything, I am thinking about things I don't need to be. It sucks. It's exhausting.

I remember in one of your videos that you suggested asking if this obsession is true, now you suggested it again and it is a precious tip. The obsessions don't cancel the rationality but overcome it, they are destabilizing.

Any medication that’s prescribed, whether it’s for pain, mental health, etc, your body can become resistant against. This is why it’s so important to see a Dr regularly so when it does happen, you can discuss further treatment options
