    This is an answer for a question from the Premiere video chat: If you are going to shoot product and still life like I do I always recommend regular reflectors with honey comb grids. I almost always use small lights in combo with diffusion materials.

    I'd like to know with what tools you've started product photography (more to the flashes), because when I watched your videos, the flashes is like the main key. But then I've found some articlds which do product photography using a mere desk lamp and a smartphone. So I'm kinda distracted wether I should investing on flashes or not. Thanks in advance! Can't wait to see your next project

    Great stuff, as always. Glad you returned after this long interlude! A question: do you have any idea of another device that would do the same as your profoto "picolight" (the one you use with the gobos and with a very precise spot)? I know that profoto have it (of course!) and also Broncolor, but we, mere mortals, can't afford that! Doesn't any other company produce anything similar? Ok... you can use cinefoil, but I really would like to have something more on pair. :) Thanks again for every video you post... See you.

    Thanks man! Well, I'm not an expert in this area but if I was on a budget I would probably buy Godox/Flashpoint monolights with Bowens mount and then search on eBay for a spot projection (Bowens mount) that takes Rosco gobos. Or, a better alternative would probably be to try to find second hand Elinchrom flashes and then buy the Elinchrom Mini spotlight... not so cheap but WAY much lower price then a Profoto Multispot with a power pack.

    Thanks! Well, I know that Elinchrom have some kind of mini spotlight projection spot/gobo thing, not the cheapest brand though. Also check out Godox/Flashpoint flashes/monolights, they have Bowens mount and you can probably find some projections with gobos on eBay that will fit with the Bowens mount. I must say I'm not an expert in this field. Remember that you always get what you pay for, higher price - better quality. Good luck!

    Thanks! Hello and welcome to the channel! In this video I use a special software just for my Hasselblad camera, it's called Phocus. When I use my Canon camera I use the software Capture One Pro, it's not free. It is also possible to use Adobe Lightroom but not as good as Capture One Pro. I also use a free software from Canon called EOS Utility, simple but works well to shoot into your computer. I think all camera manufactures have free software for shooting into the computer. Then you just need a cable that will fit your camera, for my Canon 5D Mk4 I use a regular USB3 cable.

  • @botvidsson

    @botvidsson

    5 жыл бұрын

    Hello there, yes I understand that many people start out with speed lights, the problem is that I don't have any, never had. Also, I'm not a big fan of them. They don't have guide light/modelling light (most often) so you end up guessing where to place the flashes, don't like that. Never the less, if a company would send me some speed lights I could do a tutorial. All my tutorials WILL also work with speed lights, it's just much more complicated. My recommendation is to start out with 2 used real strobes from some cheap brand and then when you have the budget you invest in Elinchrom/Profoto etc. Thanks for the tip!

    So interesting. I have enjoyed watching your work. In my opinion, you just created a peice of art from already existing artwork. And you mentioned the word boring with your set of long exposures, I. My opinion, you might try to just ban the use of the word "boring" in your productions. I for the first time ever, used long exposure last night in all darkness with the exception of three candles and one barn door lamp, powered very low and closed nearly all of the way. I don't think that it was so bad for the first try. Besides all of that, I thank you for taking the time to produce your videos.

  • @botvidsson

    @botvidsson

    5 жыл бұрын

    About the boring part, I think you misunderstood. What I ment was that it will probably be boring for the viewers to watch a black frame for a couple of minutes while I'm doing the long exposure part, I think most of the subscribers would agree. If something is boring I will use the word boring, okay? 😎 Thanks for watching man and hope your shoots will turn out great!

    @@botvidsson Hey again, I do truly understand what you meant by "boring". It's your show, and I'm not really suggesting that you create in a way that doesn't suit you process. What I meant, and obviously should have clarified, was that your long exposure teqniques would in no way be boring to me. What I mean is that your filter choices, your timing and choice of aspect could become a lesson within itself. And you could get a refill on your coffee too. You mentioned that you had your filters made for you at a custom level. If you are able to say who made them, will you? When I decided on my filter system, I went with Formatt-Hitech Firecrest. I have had them for months and only used the combined CPL and a solid 4×4" 1.8 density just a ciuple of nights ago, using trial and error up to a final capture of about 3 minutes. It was dark with 3 candles lit and a barn door nearly completely closed, dimmed and slightly covering my subjects. I was happy with the results out of RAW. And noticed no color cast. They do need more opened shadows tthough. I think. Now that I have finished a short novel for you, I wasn't trying to offend in any way with my statement. I am one of your 5,000 as of just a few days ago, and I beleive that it's time to watch some more of your work. Thanks again!

    I understand, when you're REALLY into photography you like to see the whole process. Just like me :) The think is that I always record 1-2h that I need to cut down, always a struggle. Don't know what filter you are referring to, I do not really use camera filters. The filter I use to diffuse the light are the Savage translum heavy weight, and those 'filter-frames' I make myself with foam boards, I talk a bit about that in the Dior Perfume video. I was not offended in any way my friend, I just thought you misunderstood what I was saying, no worries. :) Thanks, Martin

    I’m confused. Why would you opt to choose focus staking against lowering aperture value…?

  • @botvidsson

    @botvidsson

    4 жыл бұрын

    Ramzi Shakir Lowering the aperture value will make an even shorter depth of field, I guess you mean closing the aperture/raising the aperture value? I shoot at f13-16 with the Hasselblad to get the sharpest image. It’s the sweet spot for this lens. Even if I go up to f22 it will still not get the whole image sharp, that’s why I choose to focus stack. I also like to add, to focus stack is just an option, without it the image will turn out totally fine.

    botvidsson yes, my apologies. I meant closing the aperture. But with the specific lens’s sweet spot, it makes sense to choose focus stacking. Thanks so much! I love your style and work. Just fyi, I’m subscribed and turned on notifications fully. Thanks again.

    Ramzi Shakir I mean, focus stacking on this particular image might be a bit overkill 😎 Huge thanks for watching and supporting the channel!

    @@botvidsson thanks for reply. I really like the gobo you choose,So could you provide some gobo number? I had found many gobos on the rosco website, but most of them are not good.

    For the light on the side of the box I used: Glass M 81121 and Steel M 77278. At the same time, double. M 77278 I use all the time!
