    Interesting concept, but installing flash charging at stops will be costly (and tricky for the drivers to line up the bus correctly). In cold weather the 15 km range would be less, and if electric heaters are used, much less. Until batteries can power a longer range and recharge more quickly, the electric bus may have only limited uses. But it's a wonderful goal, and it will happen!

    You don't need a charger at every stop, only a few. You can see the pantograph uses its own system to line itself up with the charger at 0:20.

    Very impressive ..... minor problem ..... the Volvo site truck that has just taken out the overhead gantry ! So how about that side mounted flick out bar / pick up . How about that first 3 yards " kick " off the stand to overcome , to give that first heavy load moment .

    very simple idea but could use improvement on connection design. Not very practical in my opinion. Adomani has a charging system and battery pack in design that will fully charge their buses 100KWH (53.7 KWH...your choice) battery pack in 8 minutes and can accept 10 second to 20 second increment charges as well for a fraction of the cost even while using aerospace components and safer wire connections then seen in this video.

    Just how dependable is capacitive energy storage? So far capacitors have not been able to do the job that LI is presently doing for energy storage. Capacitors should cost far less for a KW as well as requiring less space and weighing less. So if capacitor technology is now practical we all have a lot to look forward too. Energy storage has be a big problem for years for almost anything that runs on electricity. This is big, very big. I sure look forward to having high volume capacitors available soon. The electric bus is great and a start, but just a start.

    I would assume that instead of installing the charging ‘mechanical arm’ on top of every bus, it would make sense to install the arm on every bus stop instead. Less load and complexity to carry around. Smh.

    Brian_H There are flexible panels now that can be embedded as the skin of the vehicle and the continue to produce power even on cludy days. Your answer would have been correct for solar panels of 15 years ago but not for modern ones.

  • @babybirdhome

    @babybirdhome

    10 жыл бұрын

    spammeaccount Steve K. It's still relevant today. Solar doesn't have the capacity to really do anything meaningful over the course of a day in the space of a bus, especially with panels that are mobile mounted. You're better off putting higher efficiency panels at a fixed location and using that to offset the power used to charge. Something like a bus requires about 1.5 - 2.5 kWh per mile of power to run over the course of a day. The area on a bus might generate a peak of about 1 kWh during the best hours of the day, buying you perhaps 4-7 miles of driving per day, so the expense really isn't worth it, especially when you consider longevity of the panels in that mobile environment. At best, you could offset the cost of running the A/C or heat in the bus with solar, but you couldn't really supply the drive motor effectively.

    Just SUPPLEMENT the existing trolleybus and tram network, replace the diesel buses with this new tech, BUT! PLEASE do NOT REPLACE the existing trolleybus or tram network! I cannot emphasise this enough! The infrastructure is already there (of course) and has been quite successful, so no need to rip it all out (like Moscow and Wellington, NZ who are both replacing their well successful trolleybuses with DIESEL jokes)! Moscow cancelled their planned replacement with Electrobuses from Belarus and at the last moment have unfortunately decided to go the diesel route! (I am sure that Dr. Christian Karl Rudolf Diesel is laughing and/or dancing in his grave!

    but it's more efficient. so that means even if 100% of the electricity used to power buses would be generated using fossil fuels, it would be still much more efficient that running diesel buses. but since it's not the case as nuclear and green energy sources are present, i think it can significantly reduce the need to burn fossil fuels. using this technology we can slowly move to 100% green transport (talking about fuel), using diesel engines we can never achieve it. also zero local emission is good for people's lungs. so is my eyes this kind of development is always very positive.

    only the fact that you take pollutants that kill your health out of the city to stations that these pollutants can be controlled easier is a great step. how much platinum and precious metals can be saved, regulated and feel sure the devices they are in, work properly? There are millions of dead catalysts out there that were supposed to clean ice exhaust gasses How much money and hours are saved for every ice powered car from inspection Instead you have the power produced from a handful of places. Easy to control, regulate and proceed to the proper corrections. All this gasoline that is being burned inefficiently could be burned efficiently in turbines producing electricity and heat for home use. Then the CO2 could be captured at the stack with far greater efficiency than normal air. and much more
