Flame painting Labradorite Cuff
A quick video for my instagram flame painting a copper cuff!
This labradorite cuff is coming to my shop today or tomorrow! Flame painting is such a unique effect and so much fun to try. When I work with a large piece like this a large tip is required for soldering. I used a 1 tip but honestly a 2 tip for a b tank would be better since copper requires a lot of constant heat to flow. I usually use silver solder for copper work. After cleaning the bezel up I then create my own rivets for attaching the bezel to the cuff. With such a large piece I like to rivet, it secures the piece and eliminates wasting gas for such a large piece. I find large copper cuffs to be finicky to solder and this is 18 gauge copper so I rivet. I find that polishing the copper first results in a better finished result. I then flame paint the cuff with a large bushy flame. Slow and steady to achieve maximum rainbow effect.

meshedesigns ah I need to check out periscope then. I found your videos about two years ago when I started metalsmithing. Learned so much from you! I still haven’t figured out the solder on the outside of the bezel base trick lol. That’s my fav!

I took a break from KZread these short videos go on my Instagram. I don't have a lot of time to film. I do periscope live chats occasionally when I want to film now! It's more impromptu!
So, how do you seal the flame paint so it will stay put?
