    You happen to mention that you put a little extra in it after you tighten the bleeder screw.the reason they don't want you doing that is because you need room for expansion with propane. If you fill completely and you leave in the sun it Will explode cause propane expands several times more than water even. Safety first

    Been happy with mine. I also bought the brass caps for same reason although the plastics ones they came with have worked well as well. Highly recommend the Flame King and their kit for keeping the cost down. I just bought their 3 oz bottles and I am trying those for camping to light fires, etc etc. The smaller bottle is handier for lighting things like the camp fire when the larger bottle is a little more cumbersome and storage location is small too. I use a weight scale in grams to weigh them before filling and the after weight. So when weighing them I know I am full (80% ish) and have gotten pretty good at judging that from the off gas at the end. Thanks for your video.

    I bought 2, 4 years ago when life became on the road. I lost one last year cause of a tweaked nipple that wouldn't seat right after I screwed it on wrong, but since I live on this it has been filled over 200 times. I bought mine for $15 each and have saved over $600. I've used mine on my lil buddy and all my stoves. In April, wally world's 1# bottles went to 5 bucks so now I like this even better 👍👍😁

    I have 8 of the FK refillable 1 lb. The green short ones. I also have the brass caps. I have them not for leaks, but for moisture and trash infiltration. I really like the refillables. I live off grid full time. I use catalytic heaters, and buddy heaters depending on how cold it is. For any road trip i take the FK refillables. I do have some disposables i do a half fill on for grills and stoves. Strangely, on the disposables, there is what looks like a schrader, It is NOT a schrader. However you can crack it open. (its about an inch long, and is a plug that unscrews with a deep schrader tool. its not a valve). Its dangerous to do, but this allows a near full (80% just like the refillables) refill in the same amount of time. As i said i don't recommend this, but if you have ever wondered................ I NEVER transport these as there are DOT laws against this. For my refill rig, I have a piece of plywood with a couple pieces of 2x4 screwed down to support bottle and a portable saw table i sit it on for ease of use and a no fall situation. Works great.

    You can get a full charge by burping the small bottles with a punch or drill bit for 4-5 seconds. do it with the bottle upright, depress the valve inside the threaded nipple, then fill again with the large tank. DO THIS OUTSIDE WITH NO IGNITION SOURCES NEARBY🔥, DO NOT MESS WITH THE VALVE ON THE BOTTLE ITSELF, it's a safety blow off valve that works opposite of the main valve. only do it 2 times, and weigh the bottle. it should be between 15-16 oz net, if its a little over, bleed it down with your punch. I use these 1lb bottles with a big buddy propane furnace, and it's nice to get a full bottle run without having to get out of a nice warm sleeping bag :o)

    I bought one refill kit which inclided 1 refillable bottle and bought 4 extra refillable bottles a few yeats ago from Home Depot on line. The bottles were originally about $15 and had been discounted toabout $8. I think they were all fixing to expire from the manufacturing date but still a good deal since I can refill them myself anyway. Then later I found out that there was a recall on some of the Flame King bottles. I checked and the bottle serial numbers that I had were not in the numbers of the recalled cylinders. Since then I wanted to pick up a few more but but can't find anybody that has them in stock unless the price is way over $30 or the refil kit with only one bottle. I don't think these have been in production for a while and the really expensive ones online are probably left over stock.

Amazon has them for $15 to $17.00 (US) if you buy 2 or 4 at a time. This actually isn't a bad price, considering they were about $15 new right before I bought mine a few years ago. Apparently the ones I bought for $8 each were being closed out since the dates were expiring. Recently I bought 2 tall Flame King 1 lb refillable cylinders & 2 Flame king 1/4 lb cylinders. It appears the 1/4 lb cylinders are a new product.

    After the Flame King 1 lb bottle is full, and you use the Allen key to shut off the overflow, and you release the handle to stop the flow of propane is it safer to also shut off the valve at the 20 lb bottle before unscrewing the 1 lb bottle? I saw that you just released the handle, and proceeded to remove the bottle, but I think that in case the flow of propane had not fully stopped, that it would be safer to have both valves shut off. What do you think?

    Doesn't it waste a lot of gas keeping the relief open the whole time? The way I do it is to let it fill with the valve closed until it stops, and then open the relief for 3 secondes and close it. Listen for more liquid flowing in until it stops. Repeat this 4 or 5 times until you see the liquid venting.

  • @christianjensen3182

    @christianjensen3182

    Correct! all that's happening is the propane in the small tank is boiling off trying to reach the equilibrium of temp/pressure. Keep the small tank cold in an ice bath and the large tank warm (sunshine, hair dryer etc.) and the refrigerant (propane is a refrigerant btw) will move from higher temp/pressure to lower temp/pressure. This will probably over fill the tank so, with the supply valve closed or disconnected from the large tank, open the allen key "spit valve" till it quits spitting liquid.

    I used to deliver propane cylinders (for about a month, I never worked so hard in my life, handbombing 15000 lbs of propane and cylinders a day was not for me) this was exactly how they filled the forklift tanks at the depot. They opened the little spit valve and filled till it sprayed liquid out. I often wondered if there could be a way to recover it as it seemed wasteful

  • @KarenJohnson8

    @KarenJohnson8

    Жыл бұрын

    @@juliogonzo2718 I delivered propane for over 10 years. The valve shown being opened is not a "relief valve", it is the "Fixed maximum liquid level valve". The valve is connected to a dip tube inside the tank that is of a precise length. When the liquid propane rises to the level of that tube, the vapor that was exiting the valve is replaced with liquid. That becomes a very noticeable change in appearance and lets you know that the cylinder has reached 80% capacity (Full!). The vapors lost during filling is a negligible amount of actual liquid propane.

    The reason why you stop after closing that valve is to allow room for expansion. Imagine your in a nice cold room just perfect size, theres a little bit of room for you to move and if it gets warmer you can move around and expand a little. Now imagine your locked inside the kitchen cupboard. and it gets hot, you want out, you need room to move, you cant because the door is locked and the expansion room you would usually have is not there, the only solution is to bust the door off and get out. Gas in this case is under so much pressure it turns into a liquid. It doesnt want to be in that state, it wants to expand. so the cylinder needs to be strong enough to withstand expansion, but if you fill entirely it only takes one poor weld or seam on that tank to give and bam, your nice green cylinder is exploding everywhere like a fragmentation grenade. Super damgerous.

I’m not saying they will burst and have refilled them myself. I won’t anymore since I have refillable ones and am educated to the real hazards of repeated refilling of the disposable ones. If I were to refill one now, I would not put much in due to pressure on the thin walls of the tank.

    I bought it too. It stinks up my clothing, and there is obviously a lot of waste. Going forward, I don't think I will shoot for filling the 1 lb. bottles full. Partial filling should cut down on the waste. Also, why hassle with this unless necessary? What I mean is: I bought a heater for $20 (Black Friday sale) that goes on top of a 20 lb. tank. With that, there's no waste, and I don't have to stink up my clothes or be hassled with filling 1 lb. bottles. That's my two cents.

    It's not necessary with a re-fillable. The Flame King has an internal fixed level tube. When the liquid reaches that level tube liquid will be forced to come out of the bleeder valve. The liquid inside the tank is not at the level of the bleeder but the bottom of the level tube. The caveat of course is that the tank must always be filled vertically.
