    I do love this one and I never knew about the ovens. For me tho I would not sleep in the fj but get a roof top camper so u can put a bigger fridge and have more storage inside, but I like this a lot

    @@elitewolfzz567 After my second almost 200 mile off road trip. I have decided to not go with a RTT or camp inside. I'm going to build an off road trailer. For me, the weight capacity of the FJ is just to low. I find myself overloading the suspension. It is easy to fix that. But if the suspension is overloaded it means the wheel bearings are to. Along with all the other down stream stuff. Upgrading wheel bearings, axles, half shafts and the like is far to expensive and to much of a reliability compromise. I'm not driving a 1 ton truck. I don't think enough people take into account weight when doing mods or off-roading/ overlanding. My last over land trip took out a shock that if I'd just been driving on road probably would have lasted 2-3 years. But 5 hours of rough dirt road driving and it is done for.

    This is possibly the coolest FJ build I've ever seen. It's simple and beautiful. Everything has a purpose and you managed to fit in all the perks of an RV while also including a full size bed back there. Amazing! Quick question, anyway you could post a diagram of your solar/electrical build? I'd love to mirror your build!

    I love your set-up! I tow a tiny home with my FJ but will retire the trailer in about 40,000 miles. I travel full-time so that's not too far away. Your sleeping setup is interesting. I'm not keen on sleeping inside myself. When I go camping without the trailer, kitty and I sleep in the rooftop tent. The biggest question for me is how I'm going to get work done and where once I park the RV for good. 😅 Happy travels!

The slide-out fridge is brilliant, I wish I had known about that before I built mine. I'd love to know how you built the bottom section (drawers, sliding tables, fridge and so on). It's a huge space safer I can tell and even with that water thank there is heaps of space left to potentially sleep 2 people?

    Hi, I have take the seat backs off, but have left the seat bases. This way, the whole thing can be put back to a 5 seater in a matter of a few minutes if needed.

    How did you mount the magnet behind the dash and do you know how strong it is (size or strength)? And does the iPad just stick on or is it in a magnetic case? Thanks mate

  • @BakedInMyCar

    @BakedInMyCar

    Жыл бұрын

    The magnet has been glued up to the back of the dash, you can reach it if you pull out the glove box. I can’t remember the exact size, but it was an eBay rare earth magnet, about 2” long and 1” wide. I have a stick on metal strip on the back of the iPad which the magnet sticks to. Hope that helps!

    Hi Roland, it touches the aerial ever so slightly, not too much of a bend to worry about.

    I have really enjoyed this car and the setup! I guess it depends on how long you are going for/how many of you? I have found that I can go off grid for about 7-9 days with this setup (solo) before I start running out of water/food. It has long range fuel tanks (160l) and power isn’t too much of a problem (particularly now with lithium and the solar setup). The bed setup is great for rolling camp setups, you just have to get used to the front seat getting a bit messy when you are in camp. One thing to note is that the FJ isn’t super big inside, compared to other vehicles like land cruisers, etc, Hope that helps!

  • @BakedInMyCar

    Hey mate! The front section of the bed is the completely removable and the seat backs aren’t removed. So the whole thing can be put back to a 5 seater, without affecting the drawers.

    Congrats on buying an FJ! I think if I added everything up including all the awnings, batteries, solar, fridges and the bed platform, total spend would probably have come in $4000 AUD. There are definitely ways you could do this cheaper than what I have done. If you have any questions about the build, feel free to shoot me a message on Instagram at @bakedinmycar

I want to make sure I have something sturdy on the stock roof rack. Thank you in advance!! There is a rear door/ window mod that allows you to open both from the back interior of the FJ. It has made getting out extremely convenient. Here's the link kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z3WKyaaFo62updo.html
