On October 8th, I’ll be living in my SUV (2007 4Runner V8 Limited). I was left to be homeless after being in a bad romantic relationship. I’m honestly scared to live in my SUV but after watching your video... it fired up a great sense of inspiration within me! Thank you for sharing this video! 🙏🏼

Hi there, I saw your vid. I've been truck camping since the mid 80's. Here's what I've learned & I'll pass them on to you. Some of this you may already have, do, or know about. 1) Get stuff you need at a camping store for backpacking. It's small, compact, & light weight. 2)Get splash guards for your truck. It'll help keep you & your rig clean. They work. I know. 3) When parking for the night, park headlong into the wind. That way if a storm comes you won't have to worry about a side wind ripping off your camper shell. Plus, if anything comes bouncing towards the truck, since you have a slimmer profile, it might miss you. If it does hit, the front of the truck is reinforced. Also when cooking you're in the lee & the wind will blow the smoke & odors out of your rig. 4) Use bug spray on the interior doors & windows/ screens openings to help keep bugs out. Use wasp & hornet spray around & on your tires to help keep critters out. Basically, all points of contact on the ground. 5) An inch is a lot of room. Learn how to stack & get used to sand & dirt. Use floor mats to put your shoes on too 6)Air out your sleeping area every morning or often. In an enclosed space the air gets stale. 7)Use a small fan to circulate the air in your sleeping area. This will help prevent hot & cold spots from forming & help prevent condensation & mold & mildew from forming. 8)Use a solid hooded sweatshirt. Draw the hood tight when you sleep to help encapsulate body heat. It can double as a pillow/ dirty clothes holder/ gear carrier etc. I hope this helps. Great vid, thanks for sharing. Drive safe. 🤠

“These solar panels are great, you set them up in the sun to charge...” Nice use of solar panels - using the sun! 😂 Nice build my friend! I, too, have traveled the country from coast to coast in my FJ - twice! These FJs are notorious for quality. They’ll outlive any Jeep on the road that’s for sure. I have a 2013 FJ Cruiser laid out as well. I perhaps may do a build video of what I’ve done. Here’s a few ideas for you: Raised bed; custom shower tube that wraps the entire left/rear of the roof rack; a custom awning that runs the right side of the roof rack; a drop table attached to inside of the rear gate; a custom push rod installed to open the rear gate from the inside (looks like a door lock); interior cargo net; dual batteries with a 1500 power inverter.... this thing is laid out! It begs for a video 😁 Safe travels out there!

Excellent build! I am considering a rooftop tent, but this is another option. My opinion: get a 12 volt freezer/fridge: even a small one. Makes a HUGE difference. One thing you can do is keep let's say frozen steaks in there, and also make ice using ziplock backs or bottle. You can use the ice for the cooler. I just got an ARB fridge and would not go back to cooler alone.

I am a woman and have an FJ cruiser. I've been "building out" my rig for camping, on an extreme budget with no building, but leaving it all in the car. I have a lot more stuff though and wanting comfort so I have a collapsible toilet, shower/changing room, solar shower, and made the back seat my bed with an inflatable mattress made for the backseat. I'm short at 5'3" so it's not too bad. I'm not living in it. Just for camping. I think I have too much but every time I go thru all my stuff every item seems so important. For instance I have a small axe and foldable shovel, emergency supplies, etc. After looking at this build one thing I am going to do different is take my water in a 7 gallon Jerrycan rather than 1 gallon jugs that take up a lot of space.

Also could someone explain how that kind of solar panels work? You leave them out 12 hrs overnight while sticking around in or near your vehicle (so not stolen) and hope it doesn't rain? Or are they waterproof? Sounds like couldn't work for urban stealth campers and neither could this kind of cooking or the outdoor solar showers some do. But I can see how it could be good for people who only or mostly stick to parks, land, campgrounds.

Which four states haven’t you been to yet? I’m guessing Alaska, Hawaii, and?

Doing something similar with my FJ, also a 2010. More of a part time stealth camp situation on long trips so I don't need the elaborate build you did, more maximum sleeping room type of deal. That front slide is genius and haven't been able to figure how to do this without hinges until I saw that. Stock lighting sucks on the FJs! So, having slept in the FJ a couple of times, how do you get in and out? Can't access the front door very easily and no way to open the rear door. I can leave the rear window popped open(actually have a mod to secure it open for windows down driving but not for dusty roads) but bugs can get in. Thinking of modding a interior lever seen elsewhere on YT but I travel with dogs and don't want them opening the door so it'll require a knob instead of the push button lever release.
