Ravenguard a chapter so stealthy that even GW forgets that they exist

The Raven Guard stealth ability is not overhyped in the slightest - Captain Aethon Shaan and a squad from his 4th company appeared out of nowhere in the middle of Ultramarines fortress monastery on Macragge during a war council - and spooked the hell out of all of legends of Ultramarines gathered there by announcing themselves. (book: The Chapter's Due)

Animals named "Common ..." usually have a duplicate scientific name because it is also the subspecies/group name. I literally just went digging around looking at Latin names last week because of Corvus Corax lol

For my Raven Guard, I've making a band that decided to help their dad bring the milk home. So they foolishly ran off into the Eye of Terror with a half cocked plan and are paying some chaotic consequences. I'm calling them A Feast for Crows (but nobody says all that, they're Crows' Feast). Really awesome to see what you did with this one! Giving me some ideas about trying capes myself.

I've never played Warhammer 40K, or any army battle game. But, I have a great time watching Jay get excited about it all, even though I usually have little idea what it all means. I got sucked in by his interesting and creative modelling and paint jobs. Using the mask for a cape here was fantastic! I also love the not-so-little little raven skull as well.

haha... same. I painted some minis 20 years ago and I have no clue of the lore but Jay is by far my favorite youtuber .. i hardly understand what hes talking about but I love his honest enthusiasm. I can just enjoy him and his videos for him being happy ^^

Blood angels next?

That cape worked out so well! Nice job, I'm tempted to pick things up again after 30+ years away from it all, I guess the main advantage is the models are that much bigger from my day, I took a look at some of my old mini's and wondered how I ever managed to get any detail on them!

Raven Guard are the best chapter. Please paint more of them!

Another trait of the Raven Guard: their commanders have to hold back from trying to show the White Scars how being sneaky is better than being fast.

Recommendation for fabric when making capes: Dry Baby Wipes. They are a bit thicker but take the glue beautifully.

You missed the grenade. Some chapters I'd be interested in you painting: Black Dragons - 21st (Cursed) Founding - Their bone blades should be cool to see on your models. Blood Angels - 1st Founding - Wonder how you'll make your take on vampires. Plus, they're the chapter that got me most interested in Space Marines. Blood Ravens - Unknown Founding - Mostly just a DoW ask. Crimson Fists - 2nd Founding - The first chapter to ever be seen, having been on the cover art of Rogue Trader. Dark Angels - 1st Founding - The 1st Legion, and their primarch is apparently back. Deathwatch - Ordo Xenos - You can basically use whatever chapter you want with this one. Flesh Tearers - 2nd Founding - A more vicious form of the Blood Angels chapter. Plenty of opportunities for chain weapons. Also, Gabriel Seth's take on the Primaris Marines is based. Grey Knights - Ordo Malleus - Can you do this without any of the special parts? Or will you cave? Iron Snakes - 2nd Founding - Out of all art of space marines, one of my favourite will always be that one Marine with the respirator with a grill like that of a snarling beast, and the giant, thick, slab-like pauldrons. It's such an evocative image. Lamenters - 21st (Cursed) Founding - The checkered pattern on the pauldrons will give you a good challenge. Plus, we gotta love these boys. Mantis Warriors - Possible 8th Founding - Stealthy Samurai Marines. Storm Wardens - Unknown Founding - Mostly because I love the idea of Scottish Space Marines. White Scars - 1st Founding - You have the Storm Lords, but not the White Scars. This must be corrected.

Jay, I've had good luck with paper towel (texture) and thin super glue. The process can be challenging, but exhilarating. Start with setting the hood by holding and drip the glue (let it soak in). Then work your way down the cloak, pressing and dripping glue. Pointy tweezers help. You can cut or tear paper towel as needed. If you come up short, you can add bits of paper towel for a more 3D camo effect. Good Luck and thanks for all the work you guys do!

Go on dude, start a Raven Guard army. You already have Black Templars but do Raven Guard too. That way you have a codex compliant chapter and one that likes to do its own thing. I feel there's enough differences there to set them apart. I myself have both Space Wolves and Scythes of the Emperor for that very reason!

I did a similar trick for capes on some kitbashed Corsair Voidscarred with actual paper towel, but then I put a thin layer of Miliput thinned with IPA to harden them up.

I would love to see Jays interpretation of some veteran Dark Angels. Either robed or Deathwing (probably robed). So many little bits and bobs you can stick on them to really emphasise their monastic / knightly take on things. Robes. Robes. Robes. Do it Jay!

I do love how the Raven Guard have one cool thing about their gene seed with being totally silent and whatnot… and then they wear a ton of Phobos armor which is already silent on its own lmao

I'm planning on collecting Tau as my first foray into physically owning 40k stuff, but you make modeling marines look WAY too fun

I bought the first Horus heresy box just for my Raven Guard, and in the lore they are one of the smallest of space marine chapters. The assault HH marine box works well too.

I'd like to see a sandy marine! With some sort of desertic camo, but from the future. Tome Keepers are neat, they all have a book and when a marine dies, a brother picks it up and write an heroic last chapter for the book before sealing it

Please do a Crimson Fists one. The OG-Poster boys need some love!

You make painting look so easy.

I did a ghillie suit cape for a zaku sniper gunpla using gauze. It looks very close to that kind of netty camouflage that you see draped over military vehicles.

Most decent looking primaris I have ever seen, well done!

Great idea about the mask. I have been using other things for cots and bed sheets.

How about an OG Crimson Fist?

The Kill Team Salvation box came with Raven Guard transfers, and so does the new Scout Kill team which you will want anyway if you are playing Raven Guard. So RG players do have options for transfers these days. Also Scouts are really good for any chapter so if you have a RG player in your area, trade them the RG transfers for ones you want.

The 19th is one of my favorites. Currently I’m trying to turn the space marines I’ve collected through starter sets into a cohesive army, my favorites are the Imperial fists, Iron hands and Ravenguard I’m leaning to either the imperial fist or ravenguard since a friend of mine got his hands on both battle forces and is offering to sell me one.

I'd love to see some Crimson Fists. The original poster boy space marine, yet they don't get a lotta love lately.

Ive always like the raven guard. But always felt like they dont get enough new minis/love. So i collect other armies first. Kinda wanna kitbash a jumppack sniper type raven guard

I love the raven guard, their stealth, the helmets, and I love that they lean into the grunge emo aesthetic to the point of it being funny. A lot of people hate shrikes haircut but I love it, it just fits lol.

Thank you I was thinking about asking you to do this but … black armour and our history. Awesome. I’m trying to get that indigo from one angle and green from another. Ravens are black but they have the oil/gas sheen and I want to work that in for the shadow masters.

Fun fact: Space Marine weapons don't have scopes, they are cameras that directly project the image into the helmet of the wielder.

I dunno if it’s particularly lore accurate but I see art of alpha legion marines armor changing from their chapter to another a bit like mystique from XMen or something and I’d love to see what you would do for that! I’m sure it would be awesome! I’m going to be rewatching your dark Lord videos a few times whilst I paint my nemesis claw kill team

Jay I know you might just be doing really popular first founding marines, but it would really make me happy to see some less well known ones, maybe the Executioners ? Either way good job on the vid it looks great !

Fun fact that Wraith slipping is a toned down version of what Corax could do which eas basically invisibility. In 30k its explained that RG can erase their presence from not only humans/astartes but also machines. Corax's was so extreme he could sneak up on primarches.

a Carcharadons marine next, the shark marines are such a cool idea and have a lot of potential for kitbashing/ 3D printed parts

Mk6 marines from 30k are a little cheaper than primaris for almost the same height, that's where I got my beakies from and I used extra Intercessor shoulder pads and helmets to make the MK6 troopers look almost Primaris.

You should try doing a Raptor marine. It is another green, but you can add some camouflage to them. It looks awesome

The Ravenguard upgrade sprue has some smaller bird skulls to chop off and use. That big skull on the chest looks… interesting. For my ravenguard in tactics I usually scrape off the Aquila and put pouches on the chest, like with Phobos marines.

White scars bikers are such a cool vibe. The old sculpts with the ponytails n swords n spear raised up are great posing, maybe 3 on the custodes floating bikes would be amazing. Also another underrated underutilized chapter from GW

Ngl I always thought the Beakie helmet looked better on the Tacticus armor than the other armor mark helmet designs.

The Phobos and scouts kill teams work really well with RG

I painted a First born Raven guard space marines from the heroes set 2 years ago. I also gave him a beaky helmet and painted his helmet and arms white. The final result is wonderful and also temp me to make a Raven Guard army, but I got too many as is.

Fianlly, Ive been waiting for this. Caw Caw brothers. Finally our moment in the darkness.

Great paint job and you weathered it perfectkly based on your concppt! Also maybe the Space marine is going for a no scope high score or is using a Halo link scope link or just isn't using it right now?
