    great video & very useful , top marks. ignore the negative comments. a joint in my gutter was leaking so opened the clips on both sides , inserted 2 screwdrivers to open the joint. put gutter sealer in the gap, restored clips & perfect ever since. that was about 15 years ago, so sealants are brilliant & relatively cheap. it's the labour that is the big expense. 👍👏🏆

    Spot on. Often it's not the actual seal. But the gutter itself tends to warp and become concave.

    Thankyou ! this worked on my two leaking gutters . I could not get the rubber seals to fit them . In fact in the builders supplies they just looked at me blankly when I asked about replacement seals ,as if they had never heard of them .

    Funny enough I just had the same issue but luckily the A online place listed suppliers for me. I got 5 for £3.80 and free post. Much better than adding goo and cheaper.

    Why do that when you could go to any place that sells guttering and get a new rubber cheaper than the silicone morning worse when your fixing it and they have had someone with a silicone gun up there

    My 20 year old guttering is made by Hepworth but the joints, end pieces and down pipes seem to be made by Marley and in quiet a few joints the guttering is warped and there is a leak. Would this be due to incompatability or age?

  • @aemackintosh

    @aemackintosh

    4 жыл бұрын

    Master Bates Could be either. You might be able to re-seal the joints, but I suppose it would be ideal to replace it so that it matches.😃👍🏼

    Good tip there. But how would you do that without removing the part? Surely it would be almost impossible to add a bead of sealant on the inside of the existing seal without removing the part? I'm only asking as I've tried to do it without removing and it's really difficult and doesn't seem to work. Any advice?

  • @aemackintosh

    @aemackintosh

    4 жыл бұрын

    You don’t have to completely remove the part, I only did that to make it easier to show the camera. You just need to make sure you get the bead of sealant in the right place. It’s usually ok to get the long nozzle of the sealant tube in there just by loosening the join.😃👍🏼

    I really wouldn't bother with that repair when a new section like you have there is just a few pounds in B&Q so just as easy to replace it instead of reparing.

  • @aemackintosh

    @aemackintosh

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, I used to offer to replace the part, but there are so many different types of guttering that tracking down the right type that fits properly is not that easy. So I found it more convenient to have the right seal glue to repair the existing fittings.😃😃

  • @aemackintosh

    @aemackintosh

    5 жыл бұрын

    Jim LePeu You could do, that would probably work too. There are lots of different gutter manufacturers with different designs, so you would have to keep a good stock of various seals. I just keep a tube of the gutter sealant in the van and it’s good in loads of different situations.😃👍🏼

    To buy a seal you have to buy the whole connector which would then involve more cost to the customer.

    No good, fit a rubber new seal or a new Union for £2 if a new seal it wants to be greased as well because gutters expand and contract about 10/ 15mm so any sealant splits

  • @dinkydoo66

    That would have to be silicone grease, as the more common standard grease is lithium based and this will rot rubber.I have a little pot for greasing o rings on my pressure washer.
