Well I have the same issue on my 3250. I may have jumped ahead, but I ordered all the gaskets for the carb, then I found your video. Tomorrow I'll give this a shot. Thanks

Bought a new generator after Irma but didn't open it until Elsa was on her way here. Took it out of the box, set it up and when I flipped the fuel valve on gas started running everywhere. I thought it was gaskets but it turned out to be the float was a bit stuck. I unstuck it and it seems fine now. Your video was very useful in confirming what I thought the issue was. Very good and detailed video, sir! Edit: My Generator is a Westinghouse but it's laid out just like your Generac.

Generator safety: this is only a reminder for everyone’s safety when using portable generators. Anyone who uses portable gas generators really needs to see this safety reminder. All generator safety rules should be followed carefully. This advice is just to make sure that everyone is aware of all the warnings and it’s just to remind people to be careful using portable generators. Generators can be dangerous if not used carefully. Every year, hundreds of people die or get injured when using portable generators due to carbon monoxide poisoning and electrocution. Make sure you are using your generator carefully and keeping others safe as well. There is something very serious that everyone should always be aware of when using generators. Some people do run their generator indoors which is not safe and that increases the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning which can cause death of family and you. Some people run their generator in wet conditions which can electrocute them. Please remember that you should never run your generator indoors. Remember that carbon monoxide is an odorless and colorless gas that you cannot see or smell. Carbon monoxide is a silent killer. Keep that in mind. Make sure your generator is 15-20 feet away from your house and away from doors, windows, and vents. Never use your generator in your porch too. Having a carbon monoxide detector is very important against generator safety. Some people also allow children to go near the portable generator which could pose risks. We need to keep an eye on our children making sure that they are not near the portable generator so they won’t get electrocuted or burned by the generator which is dangerous. A locking enclosure also keeps kids safe. A generator shed might look like a tempting place to explore, or take cover during a game of hide and seek, but a generator is a dangerous piece of equipment that can cause injury. It says on the manual that we should also keep children away at all times from the portable generator to avoid injuries. Please do not allow a child or unqualified people to operate the portable generator. Just because some manuals missed what should be listed doesn’t mean it’s safe to do. Always follow the generator safety rules when using portable generators. Generators pose electrical risks. If you need to use your generator during wet weather, you need a generator tent to protect your generator from getting wet. Don’t let your generator get wet. Keep your generator dry and before using your generator, please make sure your hands and your generator is dry. Do not wear loose clothing when operating the generator. Everything that is said on the generator’s operating manual should not be ignored. Never smoke cigarettes near the generator. Please keep flammable things away from the generator. Never overload your generator too. Your generator can catch fire. Never ever try to plug a generator cord into a wall outlet to avoid back feeding. Back feeding your generator is dangerous. Always turn on your generator first before plugging in appliances and shut off the appliances before turning your generator off. Use a heavy duty cord for your generator and the cord should not be worn out. All the instructions should be followed carefully. Never refuel your generator while it’s running. It can cause fire if fuel spills while your generator is hot. You should turn off your generator and let it cool off before refueling it. Having a fire extinguisher next to the generator is also important. This is only a reminder for everyone’s safety of using generators. Make sure your generator is properly grounded. Having a fire extinguisher next to the generator is also important against the safety rules. kzread.info/dash/bejne/e2WetpV6fqi0pqw.html and here is a video more about keeping others safe when using generators and also about our family’s safety. Hope this helps. Remember it’s better to be safe than sorry.

This was not was actually the same problem that was happening on my DuroMax generator, but your video got me in the direction to at-least start troubleshooting. Bought this generator used off CraigsList, and the guy said it was leaking when the petcock was on 'flow'. When the engine was started, it would stop leaking, and would run fine. When the engine was stopped, it would leak until the petcock was shut off. ...All it turned out to be for me, was that the guy had not properly tightened that 'cup' where the float is, and the fueal was leaking through the screw threading that holds it up into the carburetor, and out of the 'cup / bell' housing, under the choke flap...

Yep use channel locks or adjustable wrench to help get better leverage to break the nut loose. Exactly what I did before I watched this. Watching to see if I might have missed something else to check out. Pretty sure my solenoid is bad

Im about to get started on my fix. I assume its the same issue. Why these Generacs have so many people with the same issue is anyones guess. After 1 year of not using it the thing should NOT start leaking. Its a factory defect with these machines. Hope its the same issue as you had. Thanks for posting a very complete video on the repair.

Generator safety rules: anyone who uses portable gas generators really needs to see this safety reminder. This is just a reminder for everyone’s safety. Keeping your children safe is also an important thing against the generator safety rules. Went out to run my generator for the first time since December, 2016 - just want to be prepared for this big snowstorm coming, strong winds, etc. I now have this problem. The air filter ( 1:33 ) - this is where I gave gas spewing out. Not sure if I can take care of this issue today..I'll save it for when I get chance to take it apart - It's only 2 years old...so aggravating and the timing could NOT be worse! Now I suppose I just need luck and just hoping I won't lose power here in Jersey. Thanks for this video though!

Great video. I wonder how much the internet and the information age is cutting into business for repair shops in general. People can learn to repair just about anything themselves anymore just by watching step by step repair instructions and using a little common sense. Repair shops also have an attitude about working on Chinese clone generators anyhow. If repair shops didn't have such an attitude about them and went through the trouble to stock just a few generic repair parts for Chinese clones, they'd have a lot more business for themselves.

Thank you.

I have the Troy Bilt version of this generator. XP 7000. Same engine. Inherited it from a neighbor who moved away and just said it doesn't run. Cleaned up the carb and it runs. Different issue but my solenoid doesn't work either. It does work if I bench test it but It's not receiving power when I turn the toggle switch on. I don't necessarily need the solenoid to work, can disable it and let the float/needle do it's job of shutting off fuel, but it too should be shutting fuel flow. shutting the fuel valve off would stop that but that's not the point. the float and needle is supposed to cut fuel flow but mine doesn't. I've watched many videos with our carb and I see a spring on the needle. Mine doesn't have that spring. So even with the float all the way up, it's still not pushing the needle high enough to seat and stop the flow. I tried using the spring from a click pen but that didn't work. Not sure why. But a very confusing issue I also see with our carb is the solenoid. Carbs with solenoids are supposed to cut fuel flow when the key or switch is off. The pin should be extended which seals the inlet. Then when you turn the switch on, should retract and open the flow. I can see your solenoid hanging there, and like mine, and all others, the pin is retracted. If I take it off and bench test it, providing power makes the pin pop up. That is wrong. It should be out with no power and retract when powered.. I think there was a run of solenoids made with reverse polarity. And to further confuse the matter, since the pin extends when powered, why can the engine even run?! Mine runs because it's not getting power either way so the gas flows. Measuring it, it seems the pin when extended isn't even long enough to reach the hole to seal it if it were working properly. It's totally useless either way! I'm not going to mess around with parts. I ordered a complete carb of Ebay for $30

Jeff Flowers that solinoid has power to it only when you shut it off - solinoid shuts off the fuel to the jets so fuel isn’t going into the carburetor/engine when it idles down - when you shut the engine down- the throttle govenor goes into “ wide open / full throttle “ - thus- causing gas to be drawn in the engine till the engine stops- the solinoid shuts off all gas to prevent gas from washing the cylinder and diluting the oil. I have a generator / welder - That doesn’t have the solinoid - so i grab the throttle rod- push it to the idle side, hold there, then shut it off - try it sometime -

I've had my Champion generator for about 6 years and started leaking gas and it was a little rubber o-ring under the fuel solenoid. We have the same generator just with a different name mine's racing yellow.

If you want to make that generator prrr do this........use a NGK spark plug, use only ethanol free gas if you have no access to ethanol free gas use startron additive, use mobile one synthetic oil and make sure you drain the tank and carb if storing for a long time. You will notice a big difference immediately the way your generator starts and runs! YER WELCOME
