Glad it helped. We just got done with another polar blast…-7 degrees three days in a row. For some reason, no ice in the waterers. I think I had enuf animals drinking out of each waterer to keep the warm water circulating. Hope it helped. Be safe.

I’ve had them for 15 years and this was my first freeze…of course we had that polar vortex thing that moved through. I love my mirafounts!!

Another good idea what I’ve done for years is get a 3 inch hose or whatever fits in or over your exhaust pipe and sit next to the thing idling in the heater of the feed truck. run the hose in the top lid and hang out for a few, things usually defrost pretty well doing that

hey my friends if you take a gallon of hot water from your house tap and trickle it on the pvc pipe where you think it is frozen it will usually thaw it out in about 30 seconds to a minute . if you think it is in the stand pipe just trickle the hot on the top of the elbow and let it run down the stand pipe for about a minute and listen for the water to start coming if not repeat until the water starts flowing or try the float valve again. This is the fastest way to thaw pvc pipe and safest.

Did you ever figure out a way to keep this from happening? I've got the same problem and want to add an electric heat source to prevent it from freezing. thanks

If i have less than 5 head on the waterer, i drop a submersible tank heater in there and it keeps them completely ice free. This week we have been around zero all week and I have 22 head of cattle on one and absolutely no ice at all. I really believe that the more head you have to keep drinking and circulating fresh water in they won’t freeze.
