Just got a 96 Maxima with 115,000 miles as a hoopty for my daughter to start learning how to drive. The car is in really great shape but it needed a few basic maintenance repairs to get it where I wanted to be. I love your video! I never knew battery post caps exist. I just bought a battery from a car parts store and they put it in for me. I felt stupid but said "if you're offering to install it I won't say no." During the install I said "it looks like the positive cable needs to be tighter." They said "its as tight as it can go." I thought it would probably be OK. A month later the car starts dying while driving. I forgot about the loose contact until seeing your video. Thanks for the awesome, easy fix!

That's interesting because you can take the battery out once it's running and it will stay running because the alternator holds the charge. The battery just provides the initial jolt to turn the starter

Yea that's not true on 2003 and up vehicles. With all of the electronics they have one feature on newer vehicles the battery losing connection will kill the vehicles.

This fixed my problem, thank you! I did not actually buy the posts but the problem was the loose positive terminal connection on my 2006 Honda Odyssey. I had not seen the problem myself but my wife had experienced the loss of power while driving a few times before I went on the internet searching for a solution. Also, make sure the connection to the smaller wire that typically goes to the fuse box is secure. I have driven 1500+ miles and (crossing my fingers) have not seen this problem since.

The positive terminal I was working on was so corroded I had to clean it up and discovered whoever worked on it before just tried to tighten it as much as possible and broke one side of the terminal. I replaced it and discovered it probably broke because of the very bad corrosion going on for years. Thanks for the TIP! I replaced the battery after seeing your video. There was a sudden shutdown after all the work I did. The car did start up and suddenly just shutdown. It happened a couple times. Then I remembered seeing you video and I replaced the terminal. Everything resolved! The shop said it was going to be $900 after a diagnoses. This was a 2012 V6 Frontier. Thanks again for a great video!

I check mine and it was tight, my problem was the air filter, and fuel injectors. I was glad I watch your video though.

Damn thanks man I was stranded until 4 in morning and got a help for a stranger I thanked him a lot and because of ur help I’m able to locate the problem.

You could use coper wiring and wrap around terminal then tighten over that

process of elimination. start with the battery if if you cant get a spark from it then it needs to be jumped. if its a brand new battery it could be weak connections from the battery and the post. if you tighten that and it still cuts off it could be the alternator or a fuse problem. if you still cant get it to work take it to someone who has more experience.

Silicon foil also does the trick. Wrap around as much and tighten on the silicon foil. I use it on my vape with a loose battery. So silicon foil WILL transfer the power acting as a metal piece

I have a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 . Starts up fine, then it starts to idle kinda rough and sounds like it's about to shut off and then it in a couple of minutes it does. Also I can be driving down the road and it dies but starts back up. New battery btw with tight and good clean connection. It's a Chrysler though so what can I expect.

C B H did you figure out what the problem was ? Same thing is happening to my Chevy Suburban. Replaced the battery and a few days later my car starts but it starts idling rough and stalls on me.

I had the same issue, 04 Ram 1500 5.7 truck would shut down while driving randomly. Found grounding bolt by the ECM harnesses lose. Tighten it down and no more problems.

did you ever find out what the problem was my.car turns off randomly and i do have a check engine light but its a tempersture sensor would that make the engine turn off randomly?

my 2017 Ford Fusion shut off as I was stopping at a light. It also put itself in Park. No engine light went on. It restarted without a problem but I went directly to the dealer. Because there was no engine light it was suggested that I continue driving it until it happened again, however I declined and left it for service. It turned out to be the throttle assembly which, of course, I don't understand.

replace the terminals properly with new ones. dont mess around with shims just buy new terminals for 10-15 bucks and clean your battery posts

I replaced me alternator then I needed a new battery. I noticed my positive terminal was loose so I just used some random washers I had laying around so my terminal would be tight. Since then I’ve had my car randomly stall a few times while driving. The terminals are tight but I have a feeling the washers are the problem now. Going to buy these caps tomorrow and see if it fixes the issue. Thanks for the in site!

Your EGR valve maybe clogged up or closed and won't open. You might need to change it

What of it shakes a little bit then shuts off after five minutes ot will run again?

Is a red spark bad or is spark of any color good.

My nissan frontier just cut off going down the road. When you switch it on all the dash lights work like check engine and all of them but it won't turn over or do nothing it won't even click I'm hoping someone can tell me what might be wrong with it. It's a 2018 nissan frontier v6 4.0

Certainly check both. A good battery tester will test the battery and alternator. Most local auto parts stores will check for free.

I am having stalling issues with my 04 Dodge ram 1500. I started it and took positive cable off and it ran just fine. It stalls whenever. No pattern.

mike dejA Use to happen to my was my alternator , turn your car on and while it’s on disconnect the positive connection on the battery , if it cuts off it’s the alternator .

How is that possible? The alternator prevents shut off because you can remove the battery and it will still run.

I have a chevy Impala 2004 and it takes a very long time to start and it sound like it's clogged and then when I finally get it to turn on it makes really weird noises and when I come to a complete stop or when I'm slowing down the car completely shuts off ... we changed the coil wires and we changed the spark plugs and the box that the coil wires pluggs into but I guess that was not it because it's still makes the same noise and it takes forever to start and when it does it shut off . Have they changed cars that much? any car I ever had you could pull the battery cable right off, and the car would still keep running, if the alternator is good.

CarsNToys Its Suzuki Ritz. Even idle rpm is not constant. Took to mechanic today says engine misfiring

I had the same problem with my car, Car shuts off a second, Aircon turned off, Stereo off, Abs light came on, O/D light came on. Got to know, My positive battery terminal was fouled with acid build up. Cleaned it and got ir running fine. Abs light reset itself by just driving.

what ahould i do if i get a abs code 112-01? i cant seem to find anything related to the code. but my guess is... it might be the alternator or the battery... what my car does is that it turns on, but drives on low rpms not allowing me to pass over 10mph before stalling out, and when left in park(P) overnight, the battery power is drained... any ideas?

+Elliot Carvajal I'd start by fixing the battery draw. Look up - Parasitic Draw Test. The '04 TL i worked on had a similar problem. I traced it to the bluetooth system. We just pulled the fuse for the bluetooth system and it solved the problem. (A new bluetooth for this vehicle isn't cheap.)

this is exactly what happened to my car on a highway, that's why I'm searching this on utube. My car turned off while it's running around 50km/h. I pulled over, and I had no idea what happened. Car electricity back again automatically after popping the hood. Then after few miles it happened again, and that time I was lucky to find where the problem was! whew.... I would be in a serious trouble where I stuck.

im having a similar problem myself. I was told it was the alternator because the battery light would come on right after the engine cut but my battery was fine. Changed the alternator and still having the same problem.
