Fixing a Fuel Line
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
yet another prelude video. here i'm fixing a fuel line with a repair kit instead of replacing the whole line. and i'm sure you'll notice that as the video goes along the replacement line gets smaller and smaller.

Thanks a ton man I just noticed my prelude leaking a few weeks ago in the exact same spot. Made my day when the first GOOD video I watch is on the same car as mine. Vary happy I dont have to replace the whole line because just taking the plastic cover off in order to look at the tank was a pain in the ass. Especially when its friggin winter out here in bc still.
I've had to do this a few times and I have found that running the hose under hot water a few minutes makes it easier to insert your tube/pipe. Thanks for the helpful video!

Yeah, definitely something I will be doing if I have to do this job again. The thought had never crossed my mind. And thanks
Exactly what I needed. Thanks for sharing!
I also had a fuel line leak and looked up repair jobs on KZread. You made a comment earlier about slowly using a manual hack saw to cut a fuel line. I can confirm that it is possible to cut a fuel line safely with a hack saw if you go slowly. It didn't take very long to do, either. I didn't have to worry about fuel line pressure since the leak took care of that.
@Ty Kez good to hear! i'm glad it helped
Cool. Been doing a bit of plumbing around the house, becoming more experienced with it. Done some car work before and I'm surprised how some things they charge an arm and a leg for are really pretty easy and cheap to do yourself. Thought I would draw the line if there was anything to do with the fuel system, but watching you, I was powerfully struck by how much it is like plumbing. So perhaps, now I'd try it myself if I had such a problem.
very clear, step by step tutorial, thx
thats a neat little set up ... never seen that before ... im used to replacing the whole thing with new metal lines .
Great job!! I had a Ford F350 where the brake line had done the same thing like your fuel line.. I bought it from up north (OHIO) and I can promise you that I'll NEVER buy another vehicle from the snowy areas again... That road salt and calcium chloride just eats metal to pieces...
Thanks for having your videos monetized. Seriously. Now I remember that I forgot to buy Malibu Rum at the store today.
One piece of advice, next time back the car out of the garage before testing it or letting it run. I am not preaching at you. You did a fine job on that. Just better safe than sorry in case there was a fuel leak. :P
Good post/video. Helped out...thanks and take care.
well i used a small tube cutter, and before cutting anything, open up the gas cap, and what i also did was crack the bolt to the fuel rail to reduce the fuel pressure in the lines. i had to replace the end of the line so when i disconnected a little bit of fuel came out but not much,just have something ready to catch fuel if you need to. and if you go slowly with a manual hack saw i don't think you would create a spark.
Thanks for the video, you helped me out big time lol! Any chance you know how long a fix like this can last for or is this a temporary fix that should be replaced as soon as possible?

I'm glad it helped! If the rest of your line close to the repair is in good shape this is a permanent fix
i got mine at the Honda dealership, but i have seen them at other parts stores
i went to the auto part store to ask about some fuel lines...they told me they had hard lines and rubber hose universal two different size tubes to join the hard lines, anr just regular screw tight clamps...all th fittings is just fancy stuff! thanx for th video, very reasuring what i am going to do in th kind ng is going to be cake!
i just used regular pliers, even though i think there is a special type i'm supposed to use. it still worked
tremendous help!
Nicely done....I was not sure how the connectors assembled/disassembled.
got everything at the dealership, but like i said in the other response i have seen them at other parts stores. and i think one of the comments someone posted a link as well
no prob, glad i could help.
Those remind me of the steel clamps you often see on pex used in plumbing. What tool did you use to cinch them?
Did similar repair on 1996 Saturn. Except it was underneath front drivers door. I think the road salt caused this fuel line to leak at this location.
I would have replaced more of that line as it was quite shot, but you did good work with all the fittings bud.
I got everything at the Honda dealership. But I'm sure you can get it at any other parts shops
Yeah i found that out myself. I though I would have to replace everything, but just a simple replacement of a portion like that was really easy. But i guess it all depends on the amount of room and placement of the line.
How do u get the preassure fitting connection attached to the actual fuel line
GREAT JOB!!!!!!
i got everything at the honda dealership, but i know they have it at canadian tire and probably any other parts store. i did a quick search on the advance auto website and didnt find what i used
All I used were a regular pair of pliers. But i think there is a special tool for it. But to this day I still have no issues
thanks for this helped a lot. tony
i could use some help. mine is stuck in the connector. so i had to cut the hose :( had no choice. im not really sure how to fix this now. im thinking of running a new hose from the fuel pump to the fuel line. basically what what would i use to connect the two? should i just force the hose over the line and clamp it together?
Where did you get the pieces to make your repair kit
Great video thank you done right.
the only difference you should have is that you would need 2 pressure fittings, one for each side of the hard line. but yeah you could just use the nylon with hose claps, you just need to add a flare to the hard line. i wasn't able to do that since i had lack of room and clearance.
A local mechanic suggested this and I'm replacing the whole rusted metal part of the fuel line with nylon line, using Dorman line and connectors - as soon as I find my heat gun. The mechanic said they use a heat gun to expand the nylon line so it will fit onto the connectors. Just cutting the metal line at the front and back, where it is still good, and goes into the rubber hoses that go over to the throttle body in front, and fuel filter, in the back. Securing it with wire ties. Be careful.
If its cold and your having a hard time fitting the rubber, might be a worthwhile shortcut to warm up the rubber a bit with a lighter or torch, it should slip on with ease, then let it sit for a few minutes to cool off. Don't BURN the rubber to a bubbling/melting temperature, just go easy with gentle strokes with the torch to just warm it up.
Wow thanks for upload
Where did you get those pressure fittings from?
well i have to redo a new video because i don't have the other one at all. give me a few days, i might be able to post one by then
Where do you buy those kits? My 99 Accord gasline leaking. I need something like that to fix my 2 gasline where the nylon rubber from the fuel pump to the gas lines.

i was able to get everything from my local honda dealership
yeah i din't know about it myself until i wanted to order a whole new line
One more question where do you get the equipment? Could I go to Advance Auto?
Did you a tool to undo the connection ?
I would have replaced more then that, should have done the whole line.

What is that adapter called??? That u plugged into the line coming from the tank????
How would I replace the fuel line that goes to the fuel tank? I have a 2002 Camry xle and looks exactly like the fuel line you have that connects to the corroded one....I have a hole in the line right above the connector...Can I cut that line and attach new line and connector to it?

Jacob Cybok I'm no expert, and not really knowing exactly what you have. You could also just do a rubber fuel line with clamps. I know it's not much help, but I hope it gives you an option
Thanks for the help

I'm glad the video was able to help
you could soak the end of the nylon in very hot water. The metal connectors will slide right in. Nice work though!!
does this method work for cars as well boss 🙏🏼
Is it possible to replace the entire gas line with the nylon line?
By the way I forgot to ask you, what type of pliers did you use to crimp those little clamps?
Just slip it on. There is a little brass piece inside it that goes on the line and as you tighten everything it kind of crimps onto the steel line
I know it’s been forever my friend....but was wondering if you can tell me what the metal end pieces or connectors are called? And what size? You mentioned you picked up from Honda, can ya tell me what to ask for? I have a leak in the same kind and year car, same spot.....any help would be appreciated! Thanks! 🇨🇦🤟🏻😋👍🏻

im going to go somewhere and ask them to do what you did, unfortunate cant do it myself at this time
It would be helpful to others if you could specify the kit name & maker and what type of clamp you used, and if clinching it tight involved a special or common tool, it did not look like a common screwdriver type hose clamp. Prelude is Fuel Injected BTW so it's high pressure. Thanks, good stuff. Richard

DO YOU THINK THAT CACIAM CLORIDE OR ROAD BRINE MAKES YOUR CAR RUST OUT
sorry should of been more specific but i was running out of characters. its the banjo bolt that holds the fuel line to the fuel rail, but be careful, because if there is still pressure in the line it will squirt out a little so have a rag around in just in case.
I have 1992 dodge Dakota and the fuel line leaking can i use the same black ruber and clamp for my truck

@superdelsol

I'm no expert, but after 4 days I would assume whatever fuel that spread around from the repair should be gone and evaporated by now. To be on the safe side I would take another good look

Prob Canadian tire in the plumbing section not hard to find I would use a union instead of compression fitting it won’t last I don’t believe he should have got rid of more of the rusted line and used a flare kit then your hose will stay on

remember our conversation at work ? pray-lude
What is the precise name of the repair kit you used, i can't find.
@superdelsol

there is no real precise name for it. just a fuel line repair kit. or fuel line pressure fittings, and i think its a nylon hose.
Is that a kit or did you have to buy those parts separately?

Where I am from people call them Prayludes, in Vermont.
@itsyounmesweetie
7 жыл бұрын
yeah, I was trying to figure out what he was talking about! This is the definition of prelude: is a short piece of music, the form of which may vary from piece to piece. The prelude may be thought of as a preface.... once again it's pronounced "Praylude" ...too funny! lol
@R1200RTGuy
7 жыл бұрын
Dictionary.com says - Prelude is a preliminary to an action, event, condition, or work of broader scope and higher importance. Or, it can be a relatively short, independent instrumental composition, free in form and resembling an improvisation. Looks to me like he got it right...if not, it doesn't matter; I knew what he was getting at.

Why didn't you just connect the preassure fitting tube to the new line without the rubber piece
I have a 94 honda civic, my bf got under the backseat and cut the fuel pump line, how can I repair that longer enough to go get the new line today?
@superdelsol
6 жыл бұрын
As a temp fix you can use rubber fuel line with a couple hose clamps
well i'm not a mechanic, but if it can be used for a portion of the line, i don't see why not,
Because unfortunately, the small amount of line was needed to reach. If I didn't have the line I would not of been able to connect it to the stock connector
Sorry I'm already out of town and won't be back till tuesday
