Fixing a Fuel Line

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

yet another prelude video. here i'm fixing a fuel line with a repair kit instead of replacing the whole line. and i'm sure you'll notice that as the video goes along the replacement line gets smaller and smaller.

Thanks a ton man I just noticed my prelude leaking a few weeks ago in the exact same spot. Made my day when the first GOOD video I watch is on the same car as mine. Vary happy I dont have to replace the whole line because just taking the plastic cover off in order to look at the tank was a pain in the ass. Especially when its friggin winter out here in bc still.

I've had to do this a few times and I have found that running the hose under hot water a few minutes makes it easier to insert your tube/pipe. Thanks for the helpful video!

I also had a fuel line leak and looked up repair jobs on KZread. You made a comment earlier about slowly using a manual hack saw to cut a fuel line. I can confirm that it is possible to cut a fuel line safely with a hack saw if you go slowly. It didn't take very long to do, either. I didn't have to worry about fuel line pressure since the leak took care of that.

Cool. Been doing a bit of plumbing around the house, becoming more experienced with it. Done some car work before and I'm surprised how some things they charge an arm and a leg for are really pretty easy and cheap to do yourself. Thought I would draw the line if there was anything to do with the fuel system, but watching you, I was powerfully struck by how much it is like plumbing. So perhaps, now I'd try it myself if I had such a problem.

Great job!! I had a Ford F350 where the brake line had done the same thing like your fuel line.. I bought it from up north (OHIO) and I can promise you that I'll NEVER buy another vehicle from the snowy areas again... That road salt and calcium chloride just eats metal to pieces...

well i used a small tube cutter, and before cutting anything, open up the gas cap, and what i also did was crack the bolt to the fuel rail to reduce the fuel pressure in the lines. i had to replace the end of the line so when i disconnected a little bit of fuel came out but not much, just have something ready to catch fuel if you need to. and if you go slowly with a manual hack saw i don't think you would create a spark.

the only difference you should have is that you would need 2 pressure fittings, one for each side of the hard line. but yeah you could just use the nylon with hose claps, you just need to add a flare to the hard line. i wasn't able to do that since i had lack of room and clearance.

  • @wodrummerworld
    @wodrummerworld11 жыл бұрын

A local mechanic suggested this and I'm replacing the whole rusted metal part of the fuel line with nylon line, using Dorman line and connectors - as soon as I find my heat gun. The mechanic said they use a heat gun to expand the nylon line so it will fit onto the connectors. Just cutting the metal line at the front and back, where it is still good, and goes into the rubber hoses that go over to the throttle body in front, and fuel filter, in the back. Securing it with wire ties. Be careful.

If its cold and your having a hard time fitting the rubber, might be a worthwhile shortcut to warm up the rubber a bit with a lighter or torch, it should slip on with ease, then let it sit for a few minutes to cool off. Don't BURN the rubber to a bubbling/melting temperature, just go easy with gentle strokes with the torch to just warm it up.

Dictionary.com says - Prelude is a preliminary to an action, event, condition, or work of broader scope and higher importance. Or, it can be a relatively short, independent instrumental composition, free in form and resembling an improvisation. Looks to me like he got it right...if not, it doesn't matter; I knew what he was getting at.

well i'm not a mechanic, but if it can be used for a portion of the line, i don't see why not,

  • @superdelsol

Because unfortunately, the small amount of line was needed to reach. If I didn't have the line I would not of been able to connect it to the stock connector

the rest of the fuel lines look pretty rusted also. Why not just replace the whole line or lines?

  • @superdelsol

Be cause replacing everything cost more and is more involved. And also the car was in pretty bad shape, I didn't want to mess with anything else to be on the safe side
