Fixing a crushed roof
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Taking metal for recycling and getting more than I bargained for. Three weeks repairing the crushed roof on my '77 C10. Turns out I am really struggling with learning sheet metal persuasion.

Holy shit, bro! With your fully-equipped shop, your craftsmanship is truly outstanding! Nobody -- among home hobbyists, anyway -- can even HOPE to imitate you!
Great insight! I to ride the struggle bus when it comes to metal work.
Fascinating, thanks for the details! Surface work is a nightmare - be it panel dents, wall plastering or wood lacquer.... you are an inspiration for not giving up!
I am far from an expert but have dealt with similar conundrums. One thing I do first is put dykem or magic marker on the whole thing and then use a really long block with sandpaper to identify all the highs and lows. It helps to be able to visualize where to start and how to sequence. You can also get these magic markers on amazon that are two inches wide that is what I use.
Thanks, I enjoyed the video and learned some stuff!
Your eight days is our gain bro!
Cool. Thanks for the tutorial..... 👍👍😎👍👍
If you can get access between the skins , the paintless repair rods or homemade equilivant would probably help ... No expert here , but I've had a play with em with moderate success
Nice!
I would like to see more of this truck.

I wasn't doing much in the way of video on it when I built it. The build of it is at www.gwellwood.com/project-cars/the-crusty-chevy/ Enjoy!

Thanks. I’m hoping and praying the damage to the roof of my c10 can be fixed about as good as yours.
Wow, I'm impressed! I lack the attention and patience to spend 8 days fixing a dent. I'm more suited to 8 minutes with a hammer type of body work.

Learning a skill takes time. Body shops quoted between 12 and 16 hours for a pro to fix this, which means 24 to 32 hours for a not pro, which I guess means 48 to 64 hours for someone with zero experience. Right on the money for me :D
How did the trem clad lay down after it cured ? Bob

It has enough orange peel to cause canker sores. Three coats and un-thinned, you've got plenty of paint to sand it smooth if you cared (I didn't). In a parkinglot a few years ago, some guy said "your painter doesn't know what he's doing." I said "the painter was me, and it's Tremclad and a roller" and the guy went "Oh?! It's not actually that bad!).
This the kind of damage that cries out for a new skin I've made both kinds of repair and reskinning is easier and a better repair (certainly less filler involved)

I agree, but learning a skill is a benefit, too. And cheaper. But yeah, you're totally right - the "easiest/best" fix is to re-skin the roof (now that I've pulled/filled it).
FIRST!!!!
Stud guns should be illegal.
