Rusty Glovebox, been a while. Thanks for stoping by to see my vid. I appricate it. Your channel really took off great. Glad for you. Very cool projects you do and it's easy to see you really have fun doing it! It's amazing, obviously something is major wrong and deck had to be shaking terribly but just keep on trucking till it comes apart and costs another 100$ in parts. Threw the belt and shredded it, tangled up in the pulley covers and ripped deck wide open. Looked like he mowed over a grenade. Not a cheep fix, but could have been if he would have known it was just a blade to begin with.

Nice job, I saved a deck recently that should have went to scrap but there wasnt enough metal left to make ten cents... I use my Lincoln mig with flux core and do great, it's a pretty high dollar welder from when I bought it new about 25 years ago... I like the way you use scrap metal for a patch, very resourceful, it gives others the confidence to do the same! Keep up the great work

I use 7018 works great. I’m not building bridges. Just fixing mower decks. Not sure it really makes a Difference in this application

Fred Hart - the thin metal on mower decks definitely takes some time to get use to. These new big box store decks are ridiculously thin. I just started working on decks that were trash so I could practice but Iv burnt through my share.

Keep the blades balanced, don’t just remove when they need sharpening, check balance after 5/6 jobs

I can’t control how the owners maintain there machines. If the damage was from a off balance blade I would have known to stop. But not everyone stops running when they feel a deck shaking. As far as me balancing a blade, Iv never needed to. I sharpen them and run the deck, after I sharpen they run smooth. Good to go. This stuff is not rocket science no matter how bad some folks want to act like it is.

What do you use for a welder??? Iv seen you use stick and mig !? Lincoln,Harbor Freight etc ?? On you mig do you use flux core wire ???

Grasspro I show my little stick welder in one of my other vids. The firewood rack vid. It’s just a cheep older arc with the power adjustment lever that allows operator to fine tune the power. Rather than turn a knob to preset amps. I like to be able to fine tune the heat. I rarely use the mig but when I do, I use flux core.

Great video. I have to do a similar repair tp my deck. What rods are you running?

Peter Tyrrell Really depends on the deck the age or rust on metal and what type of repair mostly use 7018.
