    I tighten the clutch with my impact tight enough to get the E clip on the end of the crank. If you do not get the sprocket connected to the arm on the worm gear, you will not be able to get the E clip on the end of the crank. Stihl’s Service Manual says to rotate the sprocket one full turn to make sure it is engaged in the worm gear’s arm. I usually just put the sprocket on and rotate it a full turn and watch for it to drop down on the worm gear. Then, I put the washer and E clip on. I use a pair of kitchen pliers to snap the E clip in place. You should hear it snap into place. If not, replace it because it has lots its tension. They are pretty cheap at your Stihl dealer. It is better to replace it than have it come off while you are cutting.

    @@chainsawshack2642 Unless the criticism is constructive or valid, then those people are to be pitied and ignored, right? :) Also, there is a wide range of audiences out here even among those of us who are sincere "watchers" -- e.g. from total beginner to "expert" -- and some of us conceitedly imagine any video we decide to watch should be all about "us" and exactly what we want to see at the moment, and so when a video fails to meet those unreasonable expectations we feel offended and the more stupid and immature among us react with an angry/mean, etc. comment! .... which is well to ignore! :) (and for what it's worth) ... along with good content, among other things, it does take (it appears) much patience and perseverance to build an audience in this medium. I just hit the clutch with my impact containing the righ size socket turning CW. As soon as it loosens, I spin it off by hand. The best way to take the old springs out is with a pair of needle nose pliers. With the clutch in a vise. I usually use oem clutch springs. 9:26

    Yes, but it's a good point. I'd rebuilt the engine with a 100cc Hyway rebuild kit so it's certainly a possibility that this is a factor. Don't buy saws unseen from ebay is the lesson from this one!

    No worries! Regarding the mix and match branding, when people ask, I always say that it depends much more on the model of saw than the make. Both Husqvarna and Stihl have made some truly terrible saws, and some great ones. The best saw for reliability, balance and all-round likeability for me is the Husqvarna 346xp. I still haven't found a saw I like more for small scale forestry work. As for suspenders (this means something a bit different in the UK!), oh well, I guess I am a lumberjack!

    Stihl recommends rotating the sprocket 360 degrees to insure the worm gear arm engages with the notch in the sprocket. If you cannot get the E clip on the end of the crank, your worm gear arm is probably not engaged in the notch on the sprocket or you did not tighten the clutch sufficiently. I usually put my clutch on with my impact and give it at least one rap with the impact.

    Very likely it will be a broken spring. You should replace them all because if one has broken the others will be close to breaking as well. Good luck.

  • @chainsawshack2642

    @chainsawshack2642

    2 жыл бұрын

    The ms180 is a small saw and needs treating gently. The chain will stop in the wood when the chain is sharp and you have lots of teeth engaged with the wood (i.e. when you are cutting a large piece). Make sure you keep the engine revs high by not pushing too hard to get through the wood. The harder you push, the more load there is on the engine and the more likely it is that the chain will stop. With a plastic bodied saw like the ms180, if you carry on revving when the chain is stopped in the wood, you have a chance of overheating the clutch and melting the body of the saw.

    I fix ‘em - I replace them. Putting new springs can be a hassle. I only replace the springs if I cannot get a new clutch in short order.

    Two possible things. 1) check you didn’t put the big black washer on back to front. Note in the video I got it wrong first time then corrected myself. 2) make sure you pick up the oil pump drive arm with the notch in the clutch drum when reassembling.

    That’s the wrong sprocket washer for a rimless sprocket. The aluminum washer goes on with a spur sprocket. You need the thicker steel washer with a rimless sprocket.

    C clip, known as a Jesus clip, because when you took it off you said - where the .Jesus did it go? I have lost more of these than any other part on a chainsaw.
