Been watching all your videos. Most Excellently Done!!! Thank you!!! Just bought a 2001, 70hp Nissan outboard attached to a 1983 whatever boat. Will be commencing some work on it this evening. Temp here in Arizona was 110 degrees this afternoon. I'm retired US Army and boat motors are completely out of my life experience. Just saying Hello and and expressing Great Appreciation for teaching how to work on these motors!!!!

These are great motors, I had a 30 hp that I ran on a 14' runabout. I ran it almost every day for years without issue. And my brother had a 90 Nissan that he used commercially for years also.

Great video! I've got a 2003 M40D2 remote steering set up with tilt/trim. Mine is a low hour motor, too. I've just been through the timing/carb linkages/2 stroke oil pump mixing adjustments. Also did the car idle adjustments. I really like this motor and would love to convert it to a 50 hp but the carbs and reeds are hard to find. Thanks and take care!

Thanks for taking the time to put this up here. I don't have a 50 hp, just an old M2.5A 2.5 hp, but I watched your video anyhow and KEPT watching because it was just so well done. It would have been good to also depict the whole carb adjustment process, but I still think folks with this motor will find your video very helpful. On behalf of them, thanks again!

As you tuned the engine to run on the muffs, you will need to redo the idle tune once you get it in the water. The back pressure on the exhaust when it is under water makes a difference to the idle setup. The 15" shaft, manual start engines are commonly used for the beach patrol/life saver IRBs (rubber ducks is their common name here) . The engines tend to have a short life as they are run up on the sand, get flipped over in waves and generally just get a hard life from being in salt water/air all the time. Your engine looks like it is a very nice buy .

Hi Eric, my 2004 yamaha 15hp 2 stroke tiller starts only when the throttle is on, and doesn't idle. If you drop the revs she stalls and takes a while to start again. She runs fine when she's above quarter throttle but under that it stalls. Any idea what is causing this?

I have a Yamaha 25hk 2-stroke Autolube from -92, and I cant get the neutral position to be correct, it grinds a little bit and I have to hold it in neutral with my hand so it doesnt grind against the gears. Love watching your videos even tho I dont own anything else than a Honda BF75 and two Yamaha 25hk / 4hk 2 strokes. Cheers buddy!

if you have an outboard, always get the service manual (factory, not seloc or clymer!). they will walk you though it. the key is to adjust all the carbs equally. ive seen people try to do them individually, and they won't ever run right if out of synch.

that block has always been cranky and under powered. they originally rated it at 50hp, then a VERY overrated bump to 70hp, then in 1986 when propshaft hp came into play... back down to 50hp. before putting $$ into that motor, do yourself a favor and find a big block 3 cyl 70, 80 or 90 horse version. much more power, torque and reliability. Just my opinion.
