    You are a better man than me.. oil leak and fuel gage issues on a new bike and they don’t appear to be a one off event based on your comments would have me looking for another bike. But hey they are nice and ride well. Got to ride one on a recently trip and although the ergos weren’t right for me (easy fix) it was a comfortable bike. The owner had 8000 miles on it and was on his second engine - dust ingestion. So keep an eye on your air filter, may be wise to apply some grease along the sealing surfaces as a standard practice given the shape of the filter.

    On the issue of the seat. I peeled back the cover and "sanded" a flatter profile into stock seat with a stripping grinder then pulled the seat cover back over and stapled it back in place with an electric stapler. Turned out really nice and you would never know it unless I pointed it out. It flattened and lowered the middle section of the seat for a more comfortable seating position on longer rides and lowered the seat by over an inch. I was a little bothered by the stock seat angle. It seemed to always be pushing me into the tank. Its not hard to do and turned out really nice. I sit a little further back and more vertical. Long range comfort is far better (at least for me). Send me a message if you want pictures.

    That sounds awesome! I did something similar to my Honda CB500X seat years ago. I'd love to see any photos/instructions you might have. I couldn't find a way to message you on KZread...though I did Subscribe to your channel while I was there. 🙂 Could you email me at mpa@motophotoadventures.com? Thanks!

    Hi Mark! That's AWESOME!!! They are a great dealership, with good people. And of course the Tuareg is an AMAZING bike!!! You're going to love it. We've got an entire playlist of videos about accessorizing the Tuareg. So definitely check those out. And we've got an awesome adventure we took around Nova Scotia...my first big adventure on the new bike. Watching that should inspire you...HA! Anyway, stay in touch. If we don't meet up this year, look up the Palmetto ADV Rally. It's an awesome gathering of adv bikes in Charleston to kick off the spring riding season. Would love to see another Tuareg there!!!

    I have the Nelson Rigg Hurricane Dual Sport Tank Bag (SE-3060) that I transferred over from my old Honda CB500X. You can see our review of it in this video at the 13:29 mark: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fGtppbx_aJC3iMY.htmlsi=WHyhLPNfqicZlWAn. I wish it was bigger. but it fits and works very well on the oddly shaped Tuareg 660 tank.

    Does it not worry you that you've only ridden 2500 miles and you're experiencing three things wrong with your bike? I'm thinking of buying a Tuareg, but hate the idea that it's built poorly. Any thoughts or advice? Could I ride it up to Alaska without getting stranded?

  • @MotoPhotoAdventures

    @MotoPhotoAdventures

    I'm not worried at all. 1) A dipstick that would have been perfectly fine...I only requested the replacement because they mentioned it. 2) A fuel sensor that didn't affect anything...I just reset the trip computer each time I filled up and knew I could comfortably ride 200 miles per tank. Besides, the low fuel warning still works. And I grew up riding bikes that had no fuel guage. Other than that, I haven't had any issues. And 1800 of those miles were on a trip around the remote regions of Nova Scotia. But I've had more fun on this bike than any other motorcycle I've owned!!! I would buy it again in a heartbeat!

    Thank you. I have a KTM 690, which doesn't even have a fuel gauge, so I'm used to that. What would worry me is that if these three things went wrong so soon, what else is going to go wrong? It's a reflection of their poor attention to quality control. I've heard nightmare stories of waiting months for parts....@@MotoPhotoAdventures

    @@themosaito I hear ya! And having owned a Honda as my previous bike, I get it. The Japanese brands have a reputation for worry-free ownership for a reason. However, they aren't without their issues. I had to replace the water pump on my CB500X! So no bike is going to be 100% infalable. If you've owned KTMs, you know they don't exactly have the greatest reputation either. I was moto camping with some friends this weekend and one guy on a Husky 701 that he'd only had a few months blew his engine!!! It literally threw the auto decompression bolt and spring through the cover, leaving a 4" hole in the side of the engine. It was dead on the trail. Luckily we weren't too far from camp and someone was able to go back and get the truck/trailer to pick him up. Anyway, things happen. But you just can't live your life in fear of what "might" happen! I know guys who have tens of thousands of trouble-free miles on their Tuareg 660. It's a proven engine. It's a solid bike. There are a few known things to keep an eye on...such as the fuel sensor guage that happened to me, the wheel bearings, etc. But other than that, I don't think you'd have any trouble. I'd take my Tuareg to Alaska and back any time! We had to cancel our trip to Mexico this year due to health reasons. But we plan on rescheduling it for next year. I'll be on my Tuareg, grinning from ear to ear. If something happens, I'll deal with it. It's all part of life...and part of the adventure! 🙂

    Seat. All they do is slice foam off, so a lower seat will be wider and harder. My bmw seat is also exactly like this, not worth it. Slice the original like another commenter said, shaping it on the side curve and you’ll get to the ground much easier

    Don’t even waste money on production seats - that goes for factory and aftermarket. Get your seat custom fitted specifically for you and your preferences and riding style by a pro. I highly recommend Mr. Ed’s Moto in Albany, Oregon.

    @@MotoPhotoAdventures Got mine today and took my first ride, I am a Tuareg believer! What a great handling machine. Comparing It to my 890/Norden 901, it handles like a sport bike! It sounds much better and the quick shift works as well from first to second as it does fifth to sixth. The dash and electronics are top notch along with the bikes balance. The only negative I could see was the vibration in the footpegs between 60 and 70 mph though at 75 it is hardly noticeable. I’ll put the rubbers back in them tomorrow and see if that helps. Otherwise, this is a keeper. I love it!
