Fixed Gear Conversion - Retro MTB

Спорт

Converted this sweet old Peugeot Black Rock MTB into a Fixed Gear. Turned out really rad, really happy with how it looks and rides. Let me know what you guys think!

Very happy to see you building this project! it is always nice to give new life to old frames! Peugeot made very good frames with good geometry and attention to detail. Like the dedicated post for the rear derailleur, etc. This is like my first MTB ,bought at 91. Mine was the mangalloy series Peugeot built. Still my favourite bike to ride, mostly unchanged!

In the 90s most bike messengers had hardtail and rigid fork mountain bikes. Most were single speed, some with gears and some fixedgear. But steel mountain bikes were the preferred method for getting around the city. 26" wheels are just more nimble, faster and sturdy

Very interesting! I'm 96% sure the bike had been through at least one rebuild before this one. Several parts were 15+ years newer than the frame, which I believe dated back to around 1989-91 (it depends a bit on where it was first sold). I have a Peugeot U.S. Express I'm trying to figure out how to rebuild... basically the same as the Black Rock, with some different parts. It's good to know 2.3" tires will fit! Nice work.

I have the very same bike since '94, when I was 10. Loads of memories of long rides on mountains and jumps such a bike wouldn't be expected to take. Only thing is it's far larger than yours and I'm only 5.7 - seems my father was unjustifiably optimistic when he brought it home. My "proper" MTB was stolen 5 years ago and I could only afford a track-style bike since, which is hardly a replacement lol. I was torn between restoring my purple Peugeot - especially going through the pain of recreating its splattered paint job that's gone missing from the chainstay and bottom bracket - and leaving it at the basement and staying off the mountains still, since it will never fit me exactly right. Seeing yours with a short modern stem and a nice wider bar makes me want to do the illogical and sentimental thing and bring the Black Rock back. Also, I found it funny that its paint job is so memorable that several people came across this video and sent it to me, knowing I would be happy to see another one of these. I don't know if I'll actually do it, I'm definitely not getting rid of that biopace weirdness though. Cheers.
