Fixed Gear Conversion - Retro MTB
Спорт
Converted this sweet old Peugeot Black Rock MTB into a Fixed Gear. Turned out really rad, really happy with how it looks and rides. Let me know what you guys think!

The good thing about fixed gear bikes is that they're so clean and not requiring much parts love it 🤩

Purple bikes are top tier! 🔥🔥🔥
bro the work that you've made with this bike is flawless, my respect... you're a master!
Such a cool built! I've got a similar single speed and they really rip in that configuration, I find. I also love that you explain what you're doing. Awesome and inspiring job!
Very happy to see you building this project! it is always nice to give new life to old frames! Peugeot made very good frames with good geometry and attention to detail. Like the dedicated post for the rear derailleur, etc. This is like my first MTB ,bought at 91. Mine was the mangalloy series Peugeot built. Still my favourite bike to ride, mostly unchanged!
Stunned! Your builds amazes me every single time. This video really make wanna build something similar, it looks so rad!!

Heartfelt thanks for keeping the original paint finish and not ruining it with one of those nasty cheap powder-coating jobs. Really very nice!

So sick mate, very inspired to do something similar myself. Recently gave a neglected 2011 Subrosa Malum a new lease of life and did a tracklocross style build on it, been loving it. Wanted to do a 90’s mtb project for a while but never thought of doing one with a fixed wheel, awesome stuff

In the 90s most bike messengers had hardtail and rigid fork mountain bikes. Most were single speed, some with gears and some fixedgear. But steel mountain bikes were the preferred method for getting around the city. 26" wheels are just more nimble, faster and sturdy

@@waveywheelies It some old frame that I don't the name of, but it's probably a german (steel) frame. I think it's from someone with last name Biria
Really cool, I have a Peugeot mountain valley ( purple paint, pretty similar to this one but w/o the paint splatter) and this got me hyped to restore it! I think I'm going for a commuter/comfy ride for this one tho, as it's a big size that fits me well and I have a hard time finding those sizes here in Spain. Keep on wheeling, love the vids :)

Very interesting! I'm 96% sure the bike had been through at least one rebuild before this one. Several parts were 15+ years newer than the frame, which I believe dated back to around 1989-91 (it depends a bit on where it was first sold). I have a Peugeot U.S. Express I'm trying to figure out how to rebuild... basically the same as the Black Rock, with some different parts. It's good to know 2.3" tires will fit! Nice work.

Yo! Peugeot gang! :D I literally build up the same frame (same paintjob too, loving it!) as a fixed gear, but also 700c + threadless fork conversion. And yes, finding a seatpost for those is a pain. Found mine in an odd parts bin of a local bike shop. Awesome video man!

Fixed gear retro mtb wow! Definitely something new! I also like how you used zipties to attach the grips, maybe ill try that when i change mine, here people usually spray the insides of the grip with alcohol and slap it on the bars 💕🖤

It’s a little bit harder but it works well, hairspray also works good! 🧡
@markosverdhi

I use windex! It isn't sticky like hairspray, but it comes in a spray bottle so it's easier than alcohol!
I had no idea they made fixed cogs for the disc brake mount. I gotta check those out.
I'm at the 6:30 minute mark, and that's why I always strip down a bike, then decide how to build it. That thing is super cool!
Beautiful

Currently got a GT Karakoram and this video makes me want to switch it to single speed !!
I have the very same bike since '94, when I was 10. Loads of memories of long rides on mountains and jumps such a bike wouldn't be expected to take. Only thing is it's far larger than yours and I'm only 5.7 - seems my father was unjustifiably optimistic when he brought it home. My "proper" MTB was stolen 5 years ago and I could only afford a track-style bike since, which is hardly a replacement lol. I was torn between restoring my purple Peugeot - especially going through the pain of recreating its splattered paint job that's gone missing from the chainstay and bottom bracket - and leaving it at the basement and staying off the mountains still, since it will never fit me exactly right. Seeing yours with a short modern stem and a nice wider bar makes me want to do the illogical and sentimental thing and bring the Black Rock back. Also, I found it funny that its paint job is so memorable that several people came across this video and sent it to me, knowing I would be happy to see another one of these. I don't know if I'll actually do it, I'm definitely not getting rid of that biopace weirdness though. Cheers.

I saw gcn shim "standard" a seat post to make it fit a Peugeot frame. That is basically what som mechanics did on tour de France.
