Incredible build. and then its topped of with, "Knew i wanted to make something for my boy..." I'm thinking, a key chain, toy screwdriver with his name on... nope. "MULTI-SHOT LEVER ACTION RUBBER BAND RIFLE" :') this is the best channel on YT, by far.

I definitly know that this is one of the nicest and coolest channels. I hope this winter will weld frame Screws, nuts, bearings are available for purchase. Some custom mounting details i can order in local plasma cutting shop. (or cut with angle grinder) Also when you will assemble first version of router it will help make parts for itself:)

Your engineering prowess lights the candle of inspiration, sharing shop time with your son and stills of priceless moments is beyond words, and your humor and fun side permeate the "Force"..."bad Robot productions" LOL... My Heartfelt thanks for sharing all this with us! Rubber band guns...oh My! Dad built them with my brother and I then me with my son, then Gpa, me and my son built some Long Tom multishot ones together...now when My Gson is a bit older I am seeing a gattling gun in the future. Yours is exquisite! VFD...Should be fine in your beautifully laid out control box. I had 4 large Baldor's running in a similar layout with a hinged acrylic access. When/if yours croaks, I hear the Hitachi's are pretty good now and not quite as pricey? Most impressive build I've seen in a long time....so much for loss of words, eh? Thanks Tony!! ~PJ

Ok... Everything about this is amazing. I have a few questions though. Your production values are excellent - how did you get those dolley shots of the router at the very beginning? Your camera work is generally excellent - what are you using to shoot this stuff? Your creativity in working with video is unique (I've been in TV professionally for over 20 years). You mix graphics, still and moving video and nifty special effects techniques in a very natural, visceral and often times witty way. Where did the rubber band rifle moving parts graphic come from? Was that from your CAD software? Finally, and the question most everyone wants to know... where do you find the time to do all this? Great stuff. Wow.

Thanks Alex! The opening shot was a couple of 2x4's strategically screwed into the ceiling and a 1/4" bolt holding my camera. I spun the whole rig a few times (a million?) until I got a smooth take. I use a Nikon D300s dslr. And yes, the rifle was from my CAD; I use Solidworks. Thanks for watching, glad you liked it!

This Old Tony Nice. Thanks for the reply. I thought I spotted something vertical reflected in the plexiglass, but couldn't identify it. Clever. Looking forward to more videos. And you sound a bit like Alan Alda. Mash impressions in an upcoming video? Thanks!

It's also hard to calculate at times too. It's like most hobbies, money disappears quickly, some purchases work well, others quickly get replaced with something more suitable. Then prices on things change anyway, so an exact answer isn't really accurate for long.

Orange tip that thing NOW. I don't care that your child isn't going to be carrying this thing around in public, but if there is any game you don't want to play, having a gun look-a-like that isn't marked with a orange tip is one of them.

Gloves and non-skid sneakers too. And he should probably only use that at the range under the watchful supervision of an RO.

Sir, you are a father to be respected. You are a machinist to be admired. You are a teacher to be venerated. I can only remark publicly that you have the best channel on YouYube and a well-deserved following. Privately I can only offer a place to crash when your long suffering wife gets fed up with the stranger in the garage. Your unwavering pursuit of perfection is maxim for us mere mortals to eschew and we salute... This Old Tony.

Ow! What a dad! Builds a heavy-duty CNC router to make his son a rubber band rifle. I will always think fondly of those times my dad had me join him on so,e project or other. Never anything this exotic, but he was building his children with what was at hand. I think our most exotic was a duck-boat.However they turn out, you gave ‘em what you could. Hopefully they’ll take it and run with it and be good people with awesome skills! Best Wishes.....keep ‘em coming.

Old Growth - that is a chuckle. Actually, in high tech Physics the instruments have to be made from steel that isn't traced with radioactive elements. As it seems there is so much scrap and recycle and reuse the steel is generally mixed up. However they came into pure gold. The old (pre WW I) shipyards in Oakland were being upgraded for new ships and cranes... The old had to be removed. The heavy and very thick plates were tested and all collected. World wide this is happening. As old is scrapped it is picked up. I have a Degree in Physics, Math, Engineering. Busy guy. Wonderful project you are on! I know - this is an old thread but not for me. Just one of a series.
