Easily the best segment of any Australian 4x4 shows.
Dan is a natural. Articulate and economic in his delivery. Could easily be an engineering/trade school lecturer. (Is he?) Great to watch.
Coming from a mechanical background i think this is a great addition to the Aussie Arvo channel great job
A natural teacher. Very clearly explained.
Dan truly is the man
These are a great resource - I really enjoyed the last episode and look forward to cracking into this one later this arvo. Would love to see an autoelectrical class breaking down electrical principles, good practices, and tips for DIY 12V projects. Cheers!
Dan is indeed the man, genius… Dan for Prime Minister 👍👍👍👍
If I had not already subscribed, I would have subscribed just for Dan's content. Knows his stuff without being a knob.
i love the information that dan gives out, its really helpful especially since i also have a tb42 gq, makes me more confident to do my own mods and upgrades
A couple of bloody great couple of master classes. Thanks Dan and Pat. Would love to see more.
Hey I don't know if you boys have already done an episode about all 3 of you boys and your back grounds ...we know Dan's what about the other 2 of you...maybe I missed that episode...I'm in my 40s and I'm generally blown away of all you boys skill set....watching channels like this with young talent really makes me regret my choices of just driving trucks... I have to research and research to do my own mechanics if it's more then a general service 😂
The intricacies of how Dan explains the how/why/where and when of detail are fantastic. He'd make a wonderful foreman of a business/garage/workshop. Cheers guys.
Knocking the wheel while tightening is a genius move. Filing that one away for next time. OMG people, if you're worried about buggering a brake line out bush, take spares with you. Should be taking spares anyway, and brake lines arent as big as the other spare parts yall be willing to carry.
So much detail in your explanation but so simply explained. Well done Dan. Love it!
More please. I’m learning bucket loads and it’s good to revisit stuff I already knew.
Please do more of these master classes!
Once again very sensible advise. 👍

Thanks HammerRocks!
Great Episode! Dan sounds like he really knows what he's talking about, could listen to him all day!
Keep up this stuff. Even go into the more complicated stuff. As a fitter myself it's always nice to see how other people do things and sometimes you pick up new tricks. A tip from me is to lube the seals (not the shaft where they run) the seal will simply wipe the grease off the shaft.
Glad to see you back at it, Dan! Looks like you lost weight too! Good job all around!
A very informative video easy to understand the workings of the brake system and wheel bearings you guys should do more videos like this one Dan is truly the MAN cheers legends ☺️
I use protex on all my race cars and they have never let me down! Fantastic upgrade great video boys
Thanks Dan and team AA looking forward to the next one 🤘
Loving your content man. Keep up the good work.
Another valuable masterclass. Keep them coming 😊
wheel bearing preload knee bumps - SO GOOD. Used it already, within 24hrs of vid drop.
Great video! I love these episodes.
Really enjoyable episode. Thanks for sharing 👍
Love this style of video!!
Great break down of the job. I've done brakes and bearings before. But following instructions is easy, knowing what you're doing and why is for more beneficial. Thanks for the explanation as well as explaining some of your decision processes, they are sometimes more important.
Another good informative video guys, well done.
another cool video, when packing wheel bearings, I tend to put a larger lump of grease in my palm then use the bearing race to drag bits at a time to the heel of my palm to push it through the bearing, thanks for the cool tips and tricks, I'm thinking about upgrading my wheel bearing lock nuts now ;)
Great wheel bearing knock trick 👌
Awesome. Beats any aspw troopy boredomness any time of the day
Nice work again guys 👍
Great series.
Some great info not to mention the quality of the presentation. I'll also say that it's refreshing to see non Brendix brake parts being used which seems to be the baseline brand represented by most KZreadrs in Oz. Cheers
Next time you take your front hubs apart check for the spring and ball bearing in inside the actuator. The ball bearing engages with a detent inside the hub body at lock and unlock. Nissan stopped installing them about mid nineties, likely a financially driven decision. If not installed, your hubs will unlock on heavily corrugated roads. Thanks for a great video.
Great at vid guys..been very insightful with wheel bearings. Doing my head in doing the 75 series. Great work.
Great tip to check the valve proportioning valve by looking at the heat buildup, i think i have to check that on my saggy landcruiser
I love this series gotta keep it up dan absolute gun on the tools i work on my own cars a fair bit and i even learnt a new way to tension wheel bearing but for the average joe that doesn’t work on there car they could get a manual watch this and have a fair clue on whats going on great job boys
Bloody ripper ep and definitely some awesome learning cheers boys!

I reacon Dan has got a new squease. Goaty & trim figure.love your work lads keep it up.
Excellent. The Nissan method for incremental adjustment on the front hubs seems much better than the two hex rings on my Toyota. Is that applicable or transferable to 90s Toyotas? I liked to learn about the preload routine you used. Makes loads of sense rather than the book figures and interesting to see this ‘without brake’ fitted. I suppose it’s not that difficult to set this when rebuilding the front axle. On the ‘strength ring’, does this transfer the failure to the splines or diff rather than the somewhat cheaper hub? Great to cover the proportioning valve. It’s so often overlooked. Also, great to think about the performance in terms of temps, too. A hand on the hub is a great way to compare lefts and rights, too. Loads of great content here that was well presented. Thanks!!
I’ve been a mechanic for nearly 50 years, very well explained, the exact way to do wheel bearings. There’s probably a job at TAFE for you. Cheers lads safe travels 🍺🍺
Sweet been keen on this videos very helpful See you boys in Brisbane show
Some great advise
Awesome Ep and Maintenance tips Guys, It's good to know I am doing things right as I do the same with my gear, Iam 45 years self taught But, I use Proma MBL grease on my Bearings I found it unreel.
Keep on Truckin'
I went for braided brake lines for the same reasons mentioned in this video. If you ever did break one and need a bush fix, the diff centre studs are the same thread as all of the patrol brake line junctions, and you can use one to block them off in a pinch (no flares obviously). I just put a spare nut on one of the studs so I can wind it out with the double nut method
Nice going gents. 👍
Love the content.... We also appreciate Non-Dodgy stuff as well👍🏻
Great videos love this new stuff
You could have done a gq twin piston caliper upgrade on it they fit under 15s rims and gu ones will fit under 15s to expect 4.8 ones then you need 16s but if you do gu ones you need to change the spindle and wheel hub as there different the gu ones are bigger than gq
Wicked !🛻📹🤙😎
Excellent Content! Bearing info was great, never thought about wheel on to spin. Question, would same technique work on trailer bearings? Same tightness with zero play? I was always told to have "some" play on those bearings.
well done looking forward to more such episodes...Question I have is....should one also bleed the break proportioning valve? from memory there is a bleeder valve there.
Kenny Powers 🙋🏻♂️
Dan is the Man. Question, I have a d40 nav with a very rattling clutch. Just been put in by local mechanic work shop. Doesn't rattle when clutch pedal is depressed though. And it feels like it is starting to slip already. What do I need to do to fix it please. Cheers Jono.
Ripper vid lads!!
Likening these series. What brand brakes did you go with?
I run 15" neg 22 rims on a gu and they fit fine over the brake callipers
Yup the wheel knocking tip is gold. Plus carrying smallish light weight spares is far better than faffing around with some dodgy arse repair, plus I’d like to know how many people have actually torn off/damaged a brake line whilst out wheeling. Yeh maybe if your doing comp level stuff but your average Joe having a day out or touring isn’t going to be doing that kind of damage. Flame suit on.
I’m a mechanics boot lace, so enjoying these segments. With Dan having done auto-elec, hoping there is going to segment(s) on 12v ? Cheers
GQ TB42EFI twin piston calipers would have been the ideal upgrade, but no one sells them new aftermarket and rebuilding originals is the only answer. Great vid though!

You have to change master too which is a bit of a pita
Have you guys ever had a back fire problem on the gq or gu because my dad gq is backfiring while idling and driving I would like some ideas of what it could be thanks
Do you find any significant benefit to placing bearings in the freezer prior to installation? I know this doesn't apply in a trade situation due to time implications.
Legend
Question for Dan the Man. I know how brake proportioning valve work, but I never understand one thing. If, for example, we remove the rear spring from the valve handle, do the rear brakes then work with reduced or increased power?
Dan, why are you still running factory pan hard rods with a lift? I used adjustable pan hards and it stopped the bushes being flogged out resulting in death wobbles. Is this something overlooked or a future upgrade?
G'day new to the channel, these sort of videos are great the way you explain things is what a lot of videos miss and that GQ is fuckin clean 👌
Thoughts on the new lexus gx ???
Gum boys let’s gooo
What type of gloves do you use?
Well done Dan. I always learn something new. Get rid of those other two guys, they're holding you back!
Dan any advice for cleaning poop out of the drivers seat? Asking for a friend.
You'd think with worn disks that they would have a better stopping power as there's more surface area on the faces of the disks and pads.
Also though when bleeding brake you start with closest first so as not to drag old brake fluid through the system
Has Dan lost weight he looking slim 😍😍😍🥵🥵🥵🥵
4wd asmr
did dan loose weight?
Just me but Dan has lost some weight!!!!
Firstttt
ok my question is, Why do these youtuber mechanics not know the difference between an engine and a motor? Hate to bust your balls but you ain't the only one, sorry Pam, not! P.S. love the Perm
