I sprained both my ankles at the same time. I pretty much put my entire weight on the outer edge and side of my right foot then the other ankle let go and that one inverted too. Bruised my middle toe on the right. Scraped up the area right above the AFL on both sides. I heal pretty fast but when I walk on the right ankle without a boot it starts to hurt right away. Now the left, I think after that ankle started to roll I went down on my knee (because I got a great scrape on the left knee), but in my xrays the doc said there was this little something detached (I heard the word meniscus). Now after a month he prodded it while examining me and it hurt bad enough that I hissed out loud. The thing is even after 2 days it still hurts right under my ankle knob on the outside of my left ankle and twice I felt something move and roll up and over the protruding bone. Is that my complete ligament tear moving around under my skin? Could the examination have re-detached the healing ligament?

Was climbing off one of the short ladders at work- stepped onto the floor wrong apparently and my foot twisted inward. I was limping all day and told my manager but couldn't do anything til my shift was up. All I knew before now was that sprained ankles need support- so I picked up an ankle support wrap from my local grocery store. Keeps my ankle from twisting to the side and its comfy to wear!

I rolled my ankle back in November of 2023 (its now march 2024) ended up having a mildly displaced fracture of my posterior malleolus the ER only ever did an xray no mri, here i am months later with bone loss and still constant pain, i did physical therapy for 4 weeks only for my ankle to feel even worse. I went to get a second opinion from a new podiatrist i explained how i've still had pain and it feels like my ankle is going to constantly give out i was directed to wear my walking boot again. I've been waiting for almost a week now for my mri order to come through and hopefully to get some answers.

Doctor, From my ankle injury experiences and pop science knowledge, your knowledge is impeccable. As a child, I probably had a major ankle sprain on each leg either grade one or two. As a 22 year-old adult, I had probably a grade two ankle sprain. At 35 years-old, I fractured the tibia and partially tore an ankle ligament(?) or tendon(?). As a child in the 1960s, my Mother treated my ankle sprains. She probably wrapped the ankles with Ace bandages and had me take it easy for about three days. The ankle sprain as a young adult, I treated myself. I made the mistake of using heat on my ankle. The swelling really ballooned in my ankle. I knew I made the wrong choice. Next time, I iced it and the swelling and pain went way down. Wrapping the ankle with an Ace bandaged also helped out the recovery. On the fractured leg, my friends “rushed” me to the emergency room and a orthopedic surgeon casted my leg in plaster for at least 6 weeks. The partial tear in the ankle healed 100% while in the plaster cast. While an adult, I have rolled my ankles (inversion) several times while running or playing softball. For some reason, I never suffered injuries. I wondered if my Major sprains as a child stretched out my ligaments. Ankle braces or wrapping the ankles in Ace bandages has helped out for swelling, pain relief and increase functioning. Soaking the legs in epsom salt and tap cold water has seemed to expedited the healing process of the lower leg injuries. Tylenol has helped too by attacking the pain, leaving the body to concentrate on healing itself. This is my experiences.

Hi! eversion injury and broken fibula on August 21. (Today is November 18) Complete dislocation but no broken ligaments or tears. That’s amazing - surgeon classified the injury as “horrific” ... whoa! Oxycondon-325 for a couple of days after Surgery/metal plate to repair Fibula. Wires to stabilize ankle after reset. (I have x-rays before and after) 2 weeks after surgery soft cast. Then 4 weeks hard cast. Now “air brace” for 8 weeks. (6 weeks to go!) Stretching and rotating ankle in the evening without the brace. Occasionally acetaminophen and ibuprofen. Trying to limit. Gabapentin for nerve discomfort. Originally 300mg 3X daily - made me dizzy and a bit confused. Had that reduced to 200mg 3X daily. So ... now I’m walking hobbling around pretty good with a cane to assist at times; the pain/discomfort is manageable but the nerve issues have me down - mentally. If I keep weight off, it’s tolerable - almost unnoticeable... but, when I move about it get’s really uncomfortable. What can I do to heal the nerve issue? What can I do to make this all better? Thanks (and I dog the video!)

I sprained it walking on the road a couple of days ago because there was no footpath. A car was coming so my friend and I moved over and I caught my foot and rolled it inwards. OMG - I walked home and shortly after it was like a tennis ball. I had the XRay today (cos the fibula hurt) to see if there's a fracture. However the doc put a tubular support bandage and it feels SO much better.. I've rolled my ankle lots of times but never as severely as this!

@@hennegen2973 It's a lot better, thanks! I had an MRI and realized I had torn a tendon in my ankle. It was barely attached and he wanted to operate to fix it, but I just kept it elevated as much as possible, iced it, and wore a walking boot when I went to work. I also used red light therapy. There are times it aches, but I'm glad I didn't have surgery. :)

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I hope that you will get better soon. After 4 weeks from the accident x-ray examination would only confirm that all bones are OK or that the healing of broken bone is in an advanced stage. If the bone was broken and misaligned while starting to heal then your bone has incorrect shape and may cause pain and other medical issues permanently. Get it checked with a doctor. Do not ignore it. Not gonna lie I ignored all the research and healed 3 days. Couldn’t stand on it day 1 so I decided to stretch the ligaments by moving my ankle to what I could handle. I didn’t ice it but 20 minutes 40 minutes between icing that same day. Day 2 I decided I’d try moving around on the toes so I didn’t feel as much pain. I limped for the first couple steps then fluid movements and it’d repeat whenever I get up after sitting. Day 3 I started putting some weight on the heel and shifted weight on and off. Well now it’s the night of day 3 and I’m walking fine. Massive swelling and bruising. I thought it was a grade 2 sprain but it’s healed a lot better than what is usual for such sprain.

I snapped my ankle inward almost into a U a few years ago helping someone move. I thought I'd broken it or tore a ligament because of the burning and pain but it didn't bruise or swell really; it just hurt like a SOB for couple weeks. Speed forward to a few weeks ago and I wore my new leather supportive "walking shoes" from LLBean for a day and now my ankle is just like it was before but won't stop hurting. I ice and rest but need to use stairs one at a time or I suffer. I already stretch and take all the vitamins you mention and only real aspirin (blood issue) for pain. I can point my toes without pain but twisting side to side or pulling my toes upwards hurts. Doesn't feel like a break. I figured it is a ATL and CFL. But I don't know why using a better walking shoe would set this off after years of no issues.

There's alot of stifness in my legs. After watching your video I think it's because of not doing much activities or any excercise, do you think I can do some basic stretching physio? I did some massage with roller today as my calf muscle nerve have been paining alot. I'm a 20 year old and got this injury due to slipping from stairs 10 months ago, and now I want to go back to hostel in 15 days for my exams and then I have my internships, I've not attended college this whole semester and I really need to get back to my usual life! Please give some advice. And also ice isn't working for me anymore, I feel more stiffness, heat seems to feel a little better than ice. Please give me some advice, I really need to get better, it's been too long sir.

Every time I stop bracing my ankle I end up rolling it again, I swear, it's like my ligaments are made of jelly. Thinking about just bracing it for an extended period of time, like the next year or something.

Brace it for a whole year would be your best option unfortunately, it is important that you get it looked at by a professional and get an X-ray.
