Excellent video. I am dealing with that right now and it definitely gets worse if not addressed. Thank you for the advice on how to fix my target panic.

One of the worst things a new shooter can do is buy a barrel style design BECAUSE mostly they CAN NOT be shortened enough to get the index finger hooked deeply over the trigger. Those pieces of junk shouldn't even be on the market. Don't buy one people as they are your worst nightmare. Get a release that is on a strap for infinite adjustability. The Carter Quickie Plus on a strap is a really good option. But, but, but your best chance of learning to shoot is use a quality thumb button such as Carter Wise Choice. While this is a thumb movement activated release you can make it fit your hand to become a back tension release.

I get a sort of anxiety when I have my bow ready to shoot and I’m afraid to even touch the trigger. When I do get my finger on the trigger, I hit it right away. Thank you for this video.

Been dealing with target panic for years. I actually do the same drill as you were doing with the head phone cord. But I use one of my COVID masks...🤣 I clip my release on a ear strap and hook my thumb on the other and pretend I have my bow drawn back. Works awesome. Kind of a short draw but works

There are numerous vids on the problem of punching the trigger or thumb, accuracy is poor. What is not explained is how to hold and use the releases so that some back tension is used (not articulated). The draw cycle and full draw have a lot of details to make proper surprise releases.

So what I do is when I shoot i shoot as quickly as possible and jerk the trigger and my arrow jumps up like 3 ft above the target then sometimes I hit where I aim on the target and I get so discouraged and feel like I suck so bad

When I practice the best thing that helps me is i only shoot 1 arrow at the target and walk down to get it every shot, plus i dont shoot more than 6-8 times a day. I noticed when I would just fling tons of arrows at the target I would develop bad habits. The way I'm doing it now allows me to think more about each shot and what I did right or wrong

Vinci 89 that is a great tip! We have also incorporated it into shots. It’s a great way to reset and focus on the one arrow. I like the idea of how you spread out the one shot throughout the day, great idea!

I used to do the same. Really slows you down and let's you review the shot mentally as you retrieve your arrow. Also no broke nocks or torn vanes

I just found your channel, and I really like your videos! I’m a beginning compound archer, and my problem seems to be that I’m afraid to execute the shot. I start applying a little pressure on the thumb release, then at some point I might ease the pressure a little, and then start applying it again, and the aiming is getting worse over that period of time. When I finally get to execute the shot, I’m not holding as steady as I did in the beginning, and the arrows spread. If I just could do consistent 3-5 second pulls… I’m thinking I maybe could practice executing shots by shooting without a target, just on the blank wall, so I won’t worry if I hit or not, because there’s nothing to hit?

Yes I’d definitely recommend shooting into a target really close with your eyes closed just focusing on the execution of your shot. Then gradually move to opening your eyes and start walking back. But it sounds like you are doing a great job of catching the issue and working on it, that’s a huge step! Hope some of the tips help!

Thinking about picking up a thumb release. Thinking Carter or Stan. Any thoughts on either?

Iowa? What part? You mentioned wrestling, do you know a guy, last name Key? I shoot way better hunting. Target shooting leaves too much time to think about the circle I've found if I think to myself when shooting a target, "this has to be perfect, a heart shot, the animal can't suffer" it takes my mind off the circle or the target. I use a Tru Fire hardcore and it moves like a 2 pound trigger on a rifle, I can feel it slide as I pull. Like a rifle, it's good not to know when it's going to fire. Even if I can't see the target hole or arrow, I know right where it hit, bow or rifle when it goes off.

We live in the eastern part of the state. I don’t know anyone with that last name. There’s definitely something to be said about the intensity in the heat of the moment, I like how the pressure helps you focus more that’s really cool because when I shoot I’m like “don’t mess this up!” Lol 3D targets help me feel like I’m in the real moment but I agree there’s definitely no larger pressure then when an animal is in front of you. Best of luck this fall!
