Ray, I use a Chromebook and not being able to open PDFs has been a pain for more than 2 years! Thanks so much for your clear instructions. Now I can open PDFs again. Have a wonderful 2022.

I actually used this video to do the opposite. I couldn't figure out how to show the downloads at the bottom of my screen. I work in a high-paced environment where it was a waste of time to click and find the folder to save each doc, instead I was able to get my downloads shown at the bottom of my screen and just drag them to where I wanted them. Thank you so much, you've just made my job easier!!!

In Chrome 79.0, instead of "Content Settings", click "Site settings"

Hello Ray, I was previously using a Macbook so when I opened the PDF there were cropping tools. Now that I am using Windows10 on a PC with chrome when I open the PDF there are "no" cropping tools. Do you know how to fix this?

Hi there, when I open a PDF file, Chrome opens it in Acrobat Reader and automatically save it on my desktop. I would like a fix so that the PDF file opens in Acrobat Reader but does not save a copy on my desktop. This will then allow me to choose a name for the file and select a destination where to be saved. Can you please advise??

For me issue is. I converted the chrome icon into pdf while selecting acrobat reader. And file opens in acrobat. However when I attach the file in outlook mail. It again shows as chrome file icon as attachment? How to fix it?

Hey i do not have " PDF documents" option under my site settings, i dont know what to do.

That button was already unchecked for me and I still am seeing the pdfs downloading instead of automatically opening in Chrome. I use Nitro as my PDF software. Could that have anything to do with the issue?

Hi there. My chrome wont open pdf. I tried your solution, but after clicking privacy and security, there is no option for pdf. Only 5 options: clear browsing data; cookies and other site data; security; site settings; privacy sandbox. 2013 Toshiba satellite laptop, Win 10 downloaded this year

How about for chrome mobile? It's driving me nuts.. Used to open pdf now its just downloading.. Causing an additional 3 steps.

hello brother, one question will this setting be for the machine or only for the user ? i mean what if someone else login with his account than will he have to again follow steps ? I want to do it just one time for all users using the machine.

Here's something interesting. Or not. I have invoices sent to my email. Printing them off is easy enough, but didn't realise a new browser tab opened up to connect to my printer. My browser is google and now that doesn't work anymore. In desperation, I downloaded the file and opened up that. It opened up the microsoft browser and I was able to print the file. I remember now, that I had to look up software for my printer when I changed laptops. The site can talk to my printer whenever I'm on line.

I want these settings in my android phone

I have unchecked this option but it hasn't stopped the "save as" window popping up every time I want to open a PDF via Chrome. Any suggestions?

I was having same issue with chrome, but I noticed that I have IDM installed on my pc, and I just changed the settings and removed PDF name from *Files to download automatically* option and now it works and I can view pdf files instead of downloading, If you have idm installed let me know so that I can guide you, but if you don't have, try updating at latest version of chrome?

@@rudroroy3221 1. Open IDM 2. Click Downloads 3. Click Options 4. Goto File Types tab at top side 5. You will get a small box where there will be many file types, just REMOVE the PDF by clicking in box and backspace to remove PDF so that it won't download and it will open in chrome, after that click OK.

@@loccc88 I don't know why it happens if you don't even have IDM then it should open PDF without downloading. Maybe try updating chrome to latest version & then follow the video steps again. Or download IDM and do the steps (discussed in above comments) and maybe it works (with IDM)?

Can i ask something what will happend if i download pdf in google can the person see who download pdf?

I dint get your question .. are you downloading the file from the link in Google Chrome .. or you are asking if you download the file from Google search result ?

Not really the owner will not know.. unless they have enabled analytics for the link .. .. if it is likely that user might know who downloads the file .. if it is prompting for email address/name ..
