Fix Odyssey P0740 TCS Transmission Problem Part 2

Ғылым және технология

Replacing two shift solenoids fixed hard shifting between 1st and 2nd gear. 2 years ago I got over P0740 and TCS by cleaning two solenoids on top of the engine and installing an ATF filter. But the problem returned. Replacing two shift solenoids beneath the starter solved the problem.

Starter can stay in... loosen the two bolts close to falling out...and you can use that 3/4 of an inch to remove the solenoid

Thank you for the information, definitely a great job pointing out where the trouble will be encountered. I will be cleaning and replacing said solenoids this summer. I've just begun to experience a hard downshift and hopefully I can nip any degradation before it gets worse. This van is to good and reliable to let go yet. I've had it since new, just regular maintenance.

THANK YOU! Yours is the first video I’ve found showing where the solenoids & valves are as well as removal, testing, cleaning and how they look reinstalled. I’ll try doing mine in the morning! I’ve had an ‘02 Odyssey for six months & didn’t realize having the TCS light on was a bad thing! I got a P0734 code so started looking for how to clean as much if the transmission as possible! If I can I’ll drop the transmission pan to remove even more gunk at once. Again, thank you for making the video!

I will be trying this with the wife's 01 Odyssey. Hopefully we're as lucky as you. She's having the exact issue you mentioned. Will update you on results.

2.15.19. Before you remove the solenoids, spray some brake cleaner around the outside of the Transmission area that the solenoids are located. That way no dirt particles will fall inside of the passageways!.......a well done ✅ video™️🕶

for anyone doing this i highway recommend u drain the old fluid out first and get the supply line run it into a old trash can or container put fresh trans fluid in...start the van watch the supply hose u will see the rest of the old fluid start to come out from the torque converter after a bit the fluid will clear up..shut off the vehicle top and make sure the trans fluid is topped off then u can begin cleaning all of your solenoids to the transmission because all of the bad fluid had been flushed out to ensure the filters do not clog up again

thanks for the update my man, you are so kind to help us odessy folks going through the same thing, one question that was lost in part one is, do you think it would be better to change the transmission fluid pre or post cleaning the screen and installing the filters and also now changing those 2 solenoids?

Did you have to drain fluid first? Or just remove them? I just replaced the dual linear (big one behind battery). Also had complete flush done at Valvoline. It’s been a major improvement, it doesn’t slip anymore, but 1st to 2nd still comes late (high rpm) and rough (not as rough since fluid change). It will still get check engine and tcs light over 60mph and downshifts become erratic after that and need to restart engine to reset. So, all in all, before I remove those shift solenoids, do I need to remove any fluid?

Thank you, MITEEman, for creating and posting this video! I have a 2014 Odyssey, and had experienced the hard shifting into 2nd, plus pending P0776 code. I might just try changing out the solenoids only, since this was an intermittent problem that has not recurred for the last 10 days.

I have a 2003 honda oddesey and every other time i drive it the transmission acts up. When im driving maybe 20 mph it acts like it is in neutral..if you give it more gas it still doesnt go. If you slow down or stop it goes back to normal. It doesnt do it all the time. What is causing this? A speed sensor maybe? It has done this for a year now. I dont drive it daily.. maybe twice a week or more.

I got the upper one out by removing the upper starter bolt and backing out the lower bolt far enough to slide the starter out of the way without removing the starter completely. I forgot to check the existence of the upper solenoid, but the lower one was 18ohms

I am getting p0758 code and have to shift the car manually to get it to go. rough shift between 1st and 2nd gear but all gears work. THis happened while car was sitting .in the driveway. started it up and the car would not move in D. code says electrical issue solenoid B. I have D flashing. TCS and check engine lights on. I had fluid changed at dealership about 50k ago. have changed every 50k since new. noticed when I got it back last time that it had transmission shudders that went away after a while. Changed the solenoids on the top of engine no chang. going for the ones around the starter next. Anyone else had a p0758 code? 2004 odyssey
