Fix it - Well Used Dewalt Die Grinder Gets New Life!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

When a Dremel won't cut it, this tool is the one you need. The only problem is that a new die grinder is upwards of a couple of hundred dollars to buy new, I found this one for $35 on Facebook used and it worked when I purchased it. The only problem that I could see was that the cord needed to be fixed. Being well used, I was expecting to have to do a bit more work than just that, but I didn't expect the struggle that I had. There were a few more problems that I didn't see that needed to be fixed also.
This was a fun project, taking something old and giving it new life is rewarding and it is even better when the tool you fix is the one you need for another project.
This video is the first of a series of quicker-turnaround videos I'd like to make, which I hope are both entertaining and helpful to people who may be struggling to fix something.
I'm not sponsored and I've purchased everything in this video myself. This short video is made up of 98 individual videos which I've cut to try to give you the best parts and most information possible. There is still room for improvement on the next videos, so please feel free to send me feedback on what you think would help make a better video.

Very nice rebuild. I like the idea of rebuilding good tools. You should have cleaned the whole body like you did the handle (the handle looks new). Buy yourself a terminal crimper (they're inexpensive) instead of crimping with a pliers. Very good video, thank you.

Thanks for the thoughtful and constructive comments. I try to use what I have on-hand, the proper crimpers are a good idea for sure. An excuse to buy more tools! I didn't show it, I suppose I was was trying to condense the video, I did clean the body in the same way, it is a different material on the surface a more rubbery material and seemed to have stained over time. Maybe peroxide? I've seen people use this on plastics with good results.

It didn’t occur to me, it doesn’t interact with the shaft, why would it be LH?

@@NeedItMakeIt Probably a safety feature in case the bearing starts to slip in the housing so it won't unscrew itself. I would not have known either unless i've had the same problem before. That is a monster of a die grinder. Should last forever time in a hobbyist use

@@-Viceroy- That makes sense, I should have known to try it really, too busy paying attention to camera angles... who know. I had a look online and some are marked with an arrow it seems to be a common feature. On the other hand, they can sell more replacement parts when customers struggle like I did :). I wanted a smaller unit, but I couldn't pass on that price. I think I'll find a way to mount this to the lathe tool post for the occasional grinding. Thanks for taking the time!
