Fix Hyper Flash Blinking with Load Resistors - CBR250R

I tried to install two load equalizers to address the issue of hyper flash or hyper blinking turn signal lights. In a previous episode, I replaced my stock signal lights with mini lights along with my fender eliminator. The mini lights only consumed 2 watts of power, tripping the motorcycle's 'burnt light indicator' or 'hyperblink' (or flickering) to notify the rider that one of the lights need to be replaced. Come join me as I struggled in using those electrical clamps that came with the load equalizers. The same principle will work on certain automobiles, not just motorcycles.

cagednm69 I saw those mirrors at the bike shop when I picked up my front stand adapters and asked about them. So yeah, maybe I might install them this year. Thanks for watching.

@Amaey Paradkar Not necessarily. When you add up the loads between the new LED's and your resistors, they should be somewhat equal to the stock load. Thanks for watching.

My 2 cents, having installed remote starter systems on cars for 4 years we would never use those quick connects unless we absolutely wanted problems. If you live in any place that gets any type of humidity those quick connects will oxidize over time and cause you all sorts of electrical problems. They're also problematic because different wires have different shield thicknesses and they could either cut through the wire itself or not get enough through the shield to make a solid contact. Not to mention, the part that contacts the wire is so thin you could still have problems from road vibrations. And good luck trying to figure out which one is causing the problems. Strip and solder your wires if you want to be 100% certain your connection won't fail. If you don't have the tools, use bullet connectors way better then those crappy quick connects.

That's what I was thinking. No shrink tubing? Any riding in the rain is going to quickly short this out. Why not play it save and shrink tube everything???

For vehicles with a flasher relay, it's MUCH easier to just replace it with an ADJUSTABLE RATE FLASHER. Maintains lower current draw and adjustable rate knob is very nice!

Hey,If I change all of my turn signals with headlight and taillight from stock (filament type) to LED type (obviously they will have less power consumption) but I will have to fit them with resistors (which heat up and cause loss of energy) will it give a good battery backup or battery charge intervals will increase??

I installed the resistors on my 15 camry in the front and it was a little tricky at first on where to place the resistors so I had to tie them up with plastic wire ties but the wire ties are only touching the wires on the resistor, they are just really hanging and not touching anything at all.

+kruff39 That's a neat trick. It helps you place the resistors exactly where you want them. Thanks for the tip.

Hey there! So I did the same to my cbr250 and its working great! Was that the final resting place for your resistors or did you find a better spot?

***** Yeah that was where I left it and it seems to be working well. The other thing I did was I stuck them together with a drop of superglue to spread the heat between them. I'll put a photo of it on my Facebook page (facebook.com/RealBrownBrady).

Serious question: does it matter if they are blinking fast? Like is there a potential for wiring issues or can it just go faster, now and I don’t need to worry about it?

Do you connect only two resistors for all four led lights?

  • @TristanJCumpole

To clarify, these resistors are NOT "25W of load". That is simply the maximum power rating for those resistors before they burn up (excluding a bit of margin). They are 6 Ohms of load. Across a 12-14V circuit, these draw (R=V/I or V/R=I) 12/0.006=2000mW of current, or 2W. A little more (2.3W) for the ~14V that an alternator can put out. 25W of load would be one very very hot resistor and loaded circuit.

Does it matter which wire goes to the turn signal wire? Since the resistors are both red wires?

Its better to use flasher relay for led to replace your stock flasher relay. Cheaper and not getting hot.

Top flight Check how many watts your existing light bulb currently has. For example, my stock turn signal bulb was 21 watts, and I replaced it with a 2 watt light bulb. I needed at least another 19 watts. So I bought a 25 watt resistor. It's ok to go a little higher. It's ok to go one step higher, but going too high of a resistance might overload the circuit it is on.

Don't waste your money on these, go to Auto Zone and get an up dated flasher for your vehicle it's cheaper $15.00, you won't be cutting into your wiring and it's quicker.
