I dont mind people like that leaving. We dont need complainers around here. Some people dont know about certain tools and its important to spread the knowledge. I appreciate you.
I was doing that 35 years ago with a regular ball peen hammer. The carbide ball is a big improvement, the hard steel does a number on the softer hammer!

I tried before with a hammer earlier this year before i knee these even existed and ended up cracking my knife all over. It was a sad day.

How do you get rid of the dents left by the hammer afterwards?

You have to grind them out. They aren't too deep, but its better to do before you do your final grind.
I suggest you use a punch too make 3 or 4 pushed in sections of steel by the ball to make it unable to come out
