I like the dowel idea. Get yourself a self centering drill bit, it'll make your screws look a lot better.

It doesn't work because the very end is still loose and still ends up causing problems you need a solid base to screw back into

It's been 5 months, glue should be dry by now.

@@wonaplea08 when you brush on paint too thick. Then you remove your hinges because that's what you should do but then paint where the hinges go instead of cover them which is what you shouldn't do . Unless you remove the paint It will act as a spacer. Usually causing leverage stresses where they shouldn't be on a door.

Totally unnecessary. Just shove some matches into the holes.
